  1. I too have started avoided anything like this. At first ( a few months ) thought that the kitchen - bathroom "gluten free" might be okay but the longer I'm avoiding it the more I discover the "gluten-free" but wheat derived isn't helping. So many products (esp bathroom) have some crazy latin-science language that doesn't resemble "gluten" that I now avoid...
  2. I'm not religous, many Australians don't tend to be very religous, and I think that most who are would be quite understanding of 'difference'. I think I'm pretty lucky to live and work where I do... however... Two years ago I resigned from my $90000 a year job because I simply couldn't do it. I was a mess at home and at work. Initially I worked in a kitchen...
  3. I am having serious trouble finding (locally / online) products to stock my bathroom - shampoo/conditioner/soaps etc and wonder if anyone has any ideas for me. I would be open to making home rememdies if anyone has any suggestions. I live in Canberra Australia but now think I would buy/make from anywhere/anything to avoid gluten and its many many many many...
  4. Until the 80s medicine didn't think there were bacteria in the stomach so there must still be so many unknowns. I consider myself lucky that I developed a stomach ulcer in the 90s - soon after they released to public the antibiotic that gets deals with the bacteria. After months of pain, it took two days of that medication to be symptom free. Open Original...
  5. I've been off gluten (with a lot of mistakes especially early) since June this year. I still make mistakes (drank from son's water bottle by mistake yesterday while out - he'd been eating grain biscuits) and itched all afternoon, numb lips & this morning I woke at some ungodly dark hour and spent hours itching. I am diligent when it comes to eating etc...
  6. Anyone else live in Canberra? Any reliable restaurants or suggestions?

And my son (9y/o) checks labels when we go to the store and encourages me not to itch too much!!! He is my biggest champion. I think he can see how much less I need to sleep, I'm not nearly so lethargic or grumpy and he sees I itch less since going gluten-free - so it is quite obvious to him that he prefers 'this' mum around A friend of mine baked...
  8. I have started to keep what is left in the frypan/saucepan for future use, usually straight to the freezer if I don't have a plan for it for tomorrows snack/meal. Leftover (rice) pasta water is a great soup/stew thickener I have been getting better at cooking steak (I was never a big red-meat eater, am now) but has taken some practice (the cooking and...
  9. You really need some GOOD medical attention! Get on the Doctors forum and ask about proven / trusted experts in your area. Be sure to put the area/city in your subject so you get locals reading your topic. Sounds like ER (at least medical supervised) is a good place for you to test food intake
  10. Timeouts never worked with my son at that age. For some reason the count to three worked a treat. I used it immediately rpt immediately after the bad behaviour - when mums hand went up with the first finger up he would stop and take notice, pause breath.. then "Liam, we don't hit people" (setting the standard) rather than "Don't hit" (implies "you are bad...

My mum has had a big turn around in her attitude. A few months ago she said my issues weren't serious enough to be celiac. I got so sick of it that I eventually bit the bullet and showed her the worst of DH and scars. Mine has been head to knees and my knees, thighs and upper arms are plain awful looking ((still healing & scarred)). I also made a point...
  12. My son (Liam) didn't sleep through the night until he was 22months old. He ate and didn't have your childs issues but he was a very fussy eater (I now suspect he is also gluten intolerant.. now he is, mostly, coming along on for the ride on my gluten free diet). I was absolutely drained, almost delusional at work some days because of the exhausting hours...
  13. You are a good mum When I first went gluten free a few months ago I made lots of mistakes and many people on this forum write about similar experiences. I'm undiagnosed but suspect I am celiac because of the type of skin disorder I have - Dermatitis Herpetiforms in look and reaction to gluten/iodine. Salt has been even harder to avoid than gluten...
  14. If you have to go to an Asian country Korea may be your best option. They often have more traditional (non-wheat) products available ((soy sauce etc)). I have lived and traveled in Indonesia as an undiagnosed/didn't know I had a problem with gluten younger person and I wouldn't travel there until I brushed up on my language skills and could buy/prepare...
  15. A good comedic response! Thank you! I needed to read this today I had a few (4-5) small bits of squid that were supposed to be corn flour .. stupid me .. possibly not just corn and probably in a shared fryer. I started itching immediately, grumpy with the family soon after and scratched all the way home. I had a strange new symptom to add to the list...
  16. Under doctors control I would cut out all medications/pills/panadol etc etc where possible. My asthma and allergy medications were a mask to symptoms of gluten problems. But wait until you find a doctor that understands that these are masking a cause not symptom.
  17. Just to add: My son has similar "hay fever" symptoms developing. Last year (while I was working in a bakery and when I developed serious problems) he was diagnosed "asthmatic" which have (since me NOT working in the bakery) subsided (no treatment required for months despite the spring/hayfever season), always refused bread with meals and doesn't like gravy...
  18. I am "undiagnosed" but can't get tested due to $; 38 y/o. I have always avoided or 'don't like' gluten heavy products. I hid under beds at boarding school to avoid getting caught skipping breakfast, 'don't like pasta', avoided breakfast all my living memory, etc etc and ended up taking up a bakery sales job at 36y/o. I ate lots more bread and was surrounded...

  22. Print this (without the adverts etc so they don't dismiss or distract) and make hime read it: https://www.celiac.com/articles/148/1/Celiac-Disease-Death-Rates-Increase-Dramatically-for-the-Undiagnosed-and-Untreated/Page1.html
  23. I was in the Navy for 7 years and although I never defined my problems as gluten related ( I thought I was "normal" ) I know from hindsight that bread and pasta was a turn off. I use to eat lots of things by a whole plate of it: I would often eat a whole plate of broccoli (when it was on the menu the cooks knew they would have to chuck it anyway) If there...
  24. A couple of months ago I dropped into a health food store and the owner was this wonderful French woman (I live in Canberra, Australia). She had to give up caffeine many years ago whilst still living in France which she said was a very difficult thing to do given how important it is to their social culture. She also had another food allergy which took more...
