  1. I hope that I'll be tested for DH in a couple of weeks and wonder how I can keep the new problem area undisturbed. Has anyone had any luck with covering the itch, anti-histamines etc that helped ? Any practical ideas about what might have helped a positive diagnosis of DH?
  2. Hi Sonja, I can't help with technicalities but I can tell you that this forum may help you with some of the many subtle and unexpected "symptoms" of Celiac/gluten intolerance so make sure you have a good search around on the forum. Ask random or obvious questions or whatever takes your fancy. The members will soon tell you if you need to calm down or take...
  3. So poorly understood and researched it is.. Disclosure: I am "officially" undiagnosed. I have spoken to my boss, two weeks ago, and I asked to be removed from the bread/toast jobs unless absolutely necessary. It has made a big difference to my "undiagnosed" Celiac/DH. I don't choke and cough my way at work so much any more. My 9 y/o son handles...
  4. Sorry I can't help - but - Carageenan is a new one for me so thought others might be in the same position: Open Original Shared Link This short piece is also another reminder to me that knowing what is *really* in it can be so important.. I still have so much to learn. I've also only recently (few weeks) cut out sea salt and anything "salty" so I've only...
  5. What does the rash look like? Is it itchy, sting and/or irritating (compare it to bites and other irritations like a scratch or sharp bump)? How is it now that a few more hours have passed? Can you post a photo ? How much of the zoo feeding seed/nuts etc did you handle or inhale etc?
  6. I am awaiting an official diagnosis but I and my GP both believe I have Celiac and DH. I am 38y/o and always eaten gluten - I was never a great fan of bread/cereal/pasta but never thought much of it. I've always been bloated, up&down with constipation/diarrhoea and felt yuck - I thought it was normal. Last year I went to work at a bakery. It was one of...
  7. Hi Pear, You have been a comfort for me the last month or so since I joined this forum. You always seemed to have something useful, good or encouraging to say. Don't forget that we all need to have a 'rant' 'whinge' or something like it so don't be too hard on yourself. I went through a spell the past fortnight of not wanting to eat. Lost about 5-6 kg...
  8. I had a two hour wait to get a bus to Canberra and after being glutened a couple of times on my visit to Sydney I was absolutely starving and determined to eat something, anything but that it had to gluten-free. I wandered the streets of Sydney for a while (all so busy in terms of ingredients) and then on my way back to catch the bus spotted the Sydney...
  9. I had a two hour wait to get a bus to Canberra and after being glutened a couple of times on my visit was absolutely determined to eat something, anything but that it had to gluten-free. I wandered the streets of Sydney for a while (all so busy in terms of ingredients) and then on my way back to catch the bus spotted the Sydney YHA.. I got thinking that...
  10. I am as yet undiagnosed but think I am Celiac with DH. I have always (38 y/o) avoided breakfast and never liked cake, cookies etc. I always thought I wasn't a breakfast eater and wasn't a sweet tooth. I went to work in a bakery and after 9months fell in a very big heap. Until a couple of months ago I, like you, didn't realise that the yuck feelings weren...
  11. I am undiagnosed and can't afford medical treatment at the moment. Sometimes we have to go with what works for us so please don't be afraid to experiment with diet and exposure despite what "tests" indicate. I had problems earlier ( NO breakfast, no fan of pasta, pizza etc etc; bloating, gut sleeplessness etc etc etc etc) but working in a bakery...
  12. Thank you all. I am a bit itchy but not as bad as I use to get in the past. Newtown is a great place for eating healthy - so many great people willing to help without 'inconvenience' tone and body language. I had a great meal at the Carlisle Castle hotel - Salmon and veg and yummy! The only problem was my sisters 40th birthday & I suspect...
  13. This guy/girl has the way to go .. I"m not in you age bracket but being a single mum came to this thread to learn of some cost savings.. I try to go "bulk" I've always been a big "Asian" eater so be VERY careful of the soy/oyster etc etc etc sauces... all usuals have gluten in one form of another... go to your china town or equivelant and ask what they...
  14. schizophenia is perplexing and difficult to diagnose - cause and symptoms are still unknown and/or questioned/disbelieved. I think Celiac and gluten sensitivity people like ourselves need to be as equally calm and understanding of those suffering other illness PARTICULARLY those that are yet to be well understood. How far is " brain fog ", "depression...
  15. Thankyou!!
  16. This coming weekend is my first time having to eat out - I live in Canberra and going to Sydney, staying in Newtown. My DH is so painful that I'd love to hear about any strict or totally gluten-free restaurants etc in the inner city.
  17. I am a lot more understanding with allergy sufferers - it isn't "complaining"! Nothing worse than others who don't understanding or think you are hypercondriac. I'm in my early days of trying to sort out what works for me and only this past week accepted that it might be months or years. I worked in a bakery and got sicker and sicker over those 9 months...
  18. I was wondering if anyone could describe their personal experience with having both gluten and yeast allergy?? Is there a difference in your symptoms? Do you avoid yeast just because of its strong attachment to gluten products? Was anyone possible gluten intolerant/allergy but turned out to be the yeast?
  19. I have been working in a kitchen (yeah.. I know.. seems stupid but it is speeding up my alergy testing like nothing 'home' testing can) where we serve school camps coming to Canberra. Recently an 'elimination' diet child came for about 2 x 4 days of meals. I was amazed that the regular staff and the cook/chef thought some on a 'gluten free' diet could have...
  20. Is there no Australian website or web-community to replace this site?
  21. The last time I went out for a meal was about 3 weeks ago and it was lovely. My sons 9th birthday at his favourite chinese/malay which is just the most lovely place and he is a fan of san choy bow and communal eating. Family and fun. For me rice & Indonesian/Malaysian was for years and years the best and yummiest. At 37y/o I worked for a bakery for ...
  22. Hi. would it be handy to have our own site/forum/thread so we could check it regularly and compare notes? Does anyone know of any Australian specific sites etc????? "The Gluten Free Bar" has been my most recent godsend (first in 30+ years cereal/breakfast type thing I've ever been able to like and handle) foodforhealth.com.au

    ARCHIVED Mind Games

HI Cait, I think you are feeling 'normal'.. under the circumstances. I'm waiting to hear about my first blood test and hope it will be positive because a negative is not going to be easy to handle(actually harder for my Mum who is a doubter). In the moments (many of them!!) when my brain starts to go like a crazy rollercoaster I tell myself the result...
