    ARCHIVED Energy Please.

I work out daily as well. I began eating more animal protein (and try to stay away from beef and pork for most meals, just b/c of fat). This has seemed to help. I wanted to start drinking a protein shake, but don't have the guts or the heart to contact these companies - I just know none are safe!
  2. MandM's are gluten-free, except the krispy kind in the blue. So are hershey's bite-sized bars, but again, not the krispy variety (in red). Peppermint Patties are gluten-free, as are Hot Tamales, Dots, Totsie Rolls, Swedish Fish, Mike and Ike, Charleston Chew. These were the candies I used to eat (until I had to stop eating dairy). I think Jelly Bellies...
  3. Thanks again, tiredofdoctors. I have had my thyroid monitored and, not suprisingly, have hypothyroidism. Not sure as to the type per se, whether autoimmune-related, etc. Brought this lack of knowledge up with my doctor and he didn't see the point in figuring it out. I will definitely keep my eye out, so to speak, regarding the walking. I just hope my...
  4. Since you all did such a great job with potato chip suggestions, figured I would try another question - does anyone know of a gluten-free imitaton crab? I love making my own sushi and this crab would be a great addition, if only I could find one! Any help would be appreciated!
  5. I was wondering about this too and could not figure it out. To avoid the problem entirely, I bought a frenchpress..........and wow, talk about great coffee!! But, if you go this route, be sure to buy a better quality coffee, you can really taste the difference between the cheap and good coffee using this method.
  6. I had heard at some point, that scoliosis develops in the womb (not sure how true this is, since they checked every year in elementary and didn't find mine until 8th grade). I think a lot of these disorders still need more research - too hard to isolate correlation from causation, but it is an interesting link to consider. I know that quite a few of us...
  7. Thank you for mentioning these cheeses! There is a brand of "cheetos" (not real cheetos, but same idea) out there masquerading as gluten-free, but they use blue cheese. I emailed them once about this, didn't hear back, emailed again, said they would get back with me and never did. Forget them, and I can't eat dairy at this point anyway. Also, Panera Bread...
  8. I have not heard of refactory (sp?) sprue before, could someone explain if they get a chance? Thanks.
  9. yep, crisco is gluten-free. but, for a healthier option, you can try coconut oil/shortening. looks like white shortening in a glass jar.
  10. Never heard of these....will have to keep my eye out. Thanks!
  11. Ewww, Ener-G bread....that stuff is left over from the 1940s and repackaged. So nasty. But, you are right, probably the only stuff that would last.
  12. Thanks for the advice, claire and tiredofdoctors. I have looked into migraines more and am pretty convinced that this explains my headaches and vision issues (prior to headache). Problem with my family - my mother was adopted, so no history there. Do you two think that ataxia is something that those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity should be monitored...
  13. I only had the IgA test and scored 40 as well. My mother was diagnosed with celiac disease by a positive biopsy several years before, and I had a positive response to the gluten-free diet. Enough evidence for me. It was too dangerous for me to go back to eating gluten for a biopsy or whatever....I'm out of commission for weeks after consumption. Not fun...
  14. Not a weirdo at all. I've had negative responses from a few people. Some relatives seem to think I am lying or overreacting - their line of thought is "how can food be poisonous", then again, they are overweight. I hate it. I lie all the time to co-workers, professors, and friends - "no, can't go out to eat, I have to study" or "no thanks, I'm allergic...
  15. When I inquired about 6 months ago regarding their lipstick, they completely brushed me off and said that they would list any of those ingrediants on the packaging or at the stand that sells the lipstick - both of which is bs, since I never saw ingrediants anywhere. So, they no longer get my business. But I do appreciate the post.
  16. Great, thanks for responding. I'll have to give a few of those a try. I appreciate the suggestions.
  17. I miss potato chips - can anyone suggest some gluten-free versions? I cannot have corn, dairy, or eggs, so just a basic chip that hasn't been cooked in corn oil should work. (Lay's uses corn oil). I noticed that Kettle's brand - although ingrediants seem fine - specifically state on some "not a gluten free product"......made me a little nervous. Any help...
  18. i understand about the hubby thing - have gotten that myself and i was wondering if i was the only one married to the occasionally unsympathetic male.... i wrote more on this under someone's topic about being proud of their hubbies....blah. he's coming around, but men are so dense, it takes time.....more than you might assume
  19. i have never heard of gluten destroying the cerebellum - can anyone please elaborate on this? scary to me b/c i get "brain fog" after being glutened as well as intense headaches (maybe migranes, but I don't really know what the difference is)......do all of us need to be concerned with brain health? are we more prone to problems in that aspect? any input...
  20. Nini, I am glad to hear it. My situation was similar (see earlier post) and I thought I was the only one that hadn't gotten the biopsy.
  21. I would also like to see what others feel on colon/intestine exam. I was diagnosed via blood work, but also have a first degree relative that was diagnosed via intestinal biopsy. I saw improvements almost immediately on the diet (save for a few mistakes) and never want to eat gluten (knowingly) again. An allergist today tried to convince me to get the...
  22. You are not alone in your feelings about dr's and insurance....believe me. See some of the input on the "family members should be tested" thread.
  23. Some people have yeast intolerances and/or allergies that can mimic celiac disease symptoms. I don't know what yeast in the stool means, but when I saw this, the yeast intolerance thing came to mind. I don't have this condition, but maybe someone out there does and you two can compare isses/symptoms.
  24. Had my allergy test (skin test) today and was lucky in that I am not allergic to any of the 24 foods/food groups tested. I am now being sent to a gastroenterologist to determine food intolerances, though I have no idea how they plan on doing this. I am just lucky I have health insurance, otherwise the bill for the skin test would have been around $700!...
  25. Do you have Folger's or Maxwell house there? Both make gluten-free granualted regular coffee. I agree with what has been said about teas - here in the US, they generally list barley additives, specifically, I am thinking about Lipton brand.
