  3. Awesome! I visited NYC two months ago and went there for gluten-free pizza after reading about it on this site. It was delicious. People ask me about the highlights of the trip, and that's one of them just because it had been so long since I'd had a nice, greasy restaurant pizza.

  5. I don't see how a traumatic birth could cause celiac, but if a child is genetically prone to celiac it might be the "trigger" for celiac to develop.
  6. It depends on the brand. I know Kraft labels gluten so if I don't see it on the ingredients I eat it. But I wouldn't do the same for other brands. It'll take a while to figure out your safe brands.
  7. Most soy sauces have wheat as a filler. Does the floride have any flavoring that could contain gluten? I seem to remember flavored floride from when I was a kid. Your other daughter - has she been tested? Being a carb addict was a red flag to me. Many celiacs were carb addicts because of its addictive properties.
  8. Some of those kids should have gotten in trouble. Shoving gluten in a celiac's mouth? That's a major safety issue and putting your health at risk. Not something to be taken lightly.
  9. You may be able to find a good GP who will diagnose celiac. Maybe call some in the area and ask if they know about celiac. I tend to go for younger doctors because they're a little more current on the issue.

  13. Absolutely! Cutting out gluten generally means eating much less processed food which is healthier. WBRO doesn't have much nutritional value beyond being a carb, so you won't miss out on something essential by cutting it out.
  14. Where did you see Cheetos advertised as gluten-free? I've never seen the company making that claim. I've always thought it was one of those products that the ingredients were gluten-free but no guarantees when it comes to CC. It's a product you have to make your own choice about. That said, I do eat them on occasion, but I'm also not very sensitive.
  15. I've found most salon brands, the expensive stuff, contains gluten. They're advertised as all-natural which usually means wheat and barley extracts.
  16. I think most Paul Mitchell products do contain gluten. It's not hard to find mainstream gluten-free shampoos. Suave, Dove, Fructis, Pantene, White Rain all have gluten-free products. Aveno and Tresame mostly contain gluten.

Yes, that's true, but I have no idea how the heck you can avoid swallowing some of your personal care products. I get shampoo in my mouth in the shower a few times a year no matter how careful I am.   18. If I woke up tomorrow and didn't have celiac, I don't think I could eat gluten again. I'm conditioned to not see gluten products as food anymore. It's more this curious thing that other people eat that I'm always fascinated about, but it's not something I eat. My life just doesn't contain gluten anymore.   19. I've never contacted a restaurant after being glutened, but I did contact one about an item on their gluten free menu. The fried tofu was on the gluten-free menu, but I knew they fried other non-gluten-free foods there so I inquired if there was a separate fryer and there wasn't.   20. At least your boyfriend is fully supportive of the diet - at least that makes things a million times easier and these occasional issues easier to deal with. Sounds like you've figured out a good compromise.
  21. Love the T-shirt idea! If you've given them all the information on celiac and its complications and the "one crumb makes him sick" talk, I would not let him visit or at least not unsupervised. Or insist they come to your house to visit. I know it's not something any parent wants to do, but you son's health has to come first.

  23. I just found out about this yesterday, and I'm so excited! Sure I make my own pizza and that's fine, but nothing can really replace that greasy take out pizza that comes in a cardboard box. I always directly call the reception site - bride and groom have enough to worry about and may not know what questions to ask. I haven't found a lot of information about casein intolerance, but it seems one of the theories is that in people with celiac, the body starts to react to other types of proteins in addition to the gluten protein. This would seem to suggest that those with celiac are much more likely to have casein intolerance.
