  1. Wow - that is utterly ridiculous and unbelievalbe! Looks like I need to find a new favorite airline.
  2. Yes I am a biopsy dx's US citizen but life is too short to beg for a meal, that from what I heard used to include a rice cake which contained barley.... I already knew I had to take my own food on the plane both ways, and a lot more food for the actual vacation to boot. But I figured if I ordered the gluten free meal from the airline, there may be something...
  3. When I called Delta to order a gluten-free meal for a flight next month, they told me they don't have gluten-free meals anymore. They offered a vegatarian or diabetic option (no idea what that would be). After being on hold FOREVER the woman came back to tell me they can't tell me what's in their diabetic or vegetarian meals but I could contact gategourmet...
  4. Wow jkmunchkin - sounds like a terrifice plate to eat! I had my first Chinese food in 11 weeks today - PF Changs - and it was really quite good. Had the lettuce wraps and sockeye salmon. It was busy (and always is there) so I was concerned that the kitchen may be too busy to prepare my meal correctly but five hours later I'm feeling great. Last night...
  5. Oh wonderful! Yes I used the site you mention/posted for sending all my family members testing info for their docs. It has the easiest to understand info in my opinion. Jerseyangel actually told me about it.

  7. Nancy - wow what a nice trip you are going on. I love San Diego, only been once but if I could have my house on same size there as here in GA I'd move there in a heartbeat! I'm guessing this would cost about 1 million dollars+ literally so unless I start playin the lottery and win too - I will sadly never live in San Diego. Lived in Sunnyvale CA (silicon...
  8. Thank you for the compliment ms_sillyak_screwed. I can not devote any time into helping put together a national protest until summer. My business is slow then and I have more time to allow for non work stuff. I own/run a promotional products company but I have no employees so I have to do everything myself. I also rep. for a friends company in the same business...
  9. Since I can no longer have my Quaker quick (or any other type) grits, I'm searching all over for something safe. Dixie Lily certifies their grits are gluten free but I haven't been able to find them yet...not in either of my Publix stores. Anyway, I had seen somewhere on a message board that people had eaten Jim Dandy with no reaction but when I read the...
  10. Well I wanted to report that despite the one rude woman at L'Oreal, I called back and got a human. She cofirmed what the other rep. said but with the rudeness, I was worried I had not written everything down correctly. Walgreen's has the L'Oreal Colour Riche l/s on sale for $1 off this week. That made is $6.99 ea. so I got three tubes. I remembered when I...
  11. Well I have to report that my Mother is now on board not only with the diet, but since my sister tested neg. for Celiac on panel, Mother called the pcp's office and asked the test results for my sister to be mailed to my sister. Otherwise we have no idea of the actual number on the test. In my case a tTg only of 10, then 7 two months later led 2 docs to say...

    ARCHIVED Quote Of The Day

First GI who actually suspected Celiac and ran panel but didn't tell me at that time - Celiac Sprue is very rare, it's an allergy to wheat and you need to be of Scottish heritage to get it. Hemotologist (after finding out I have very light monthly cycles) - Some women just get anemia, I promise once you get through menopause, the anemia will go away -...
  13. My husband and I will be in London in a few weeks and wondererd if any people with Celiac in the city have an interest to meet for either coffee or a gluten free meal. We will be staying in South Kensington area but hanging out a lot in the West End district. Please pm me for details on dates and such if there are any takers. I heard Starbuck's in London...
  14. Like was said earlier, I can only control what I do and my reactions to others. I hope the friendship will survive as I have been and will continue to support my friend's efforts to be more healthy. But if I don't get the same back from her, well I don't know if I'll be able to accept that or not. Only time will tell I guess. I'd like to thank everyone for...
  15. Too funny!!!!!!! Mother got pcp to run full Celiac panel. Only her tTg came back pos. for Celiac (as mine did) so she opted out having the biopsy since she had way more signs of Celiac than I did and I had pos. biopsy. She has now been on the diet less than two weeks and after thinking it wasn't helping, she finally feels a tiny bit better and is happy to...
  16. Wow - it's good(but sad) to see I'm not alone in this. But I at least have some good news to report. After 10 days gluten free my Mother has started to feel a tiny bit better and thinks it must be the change in diet - of course it is. So now she seems comitted to sticking it out and trying to see if she continues to feel better. She even told me her friends...
  17. Thank you so much for sharing. I now realize I read something on another post about someone's Grandmother not being fed gluten free and it broke my heart. That must have been your post cgilsing - I'm so sorry that happened. And now your cousin....that sounds like child abuse or something...I'm sorry to hear parents would actually not want to help their own...
  18. Okay - now you're talking my language - a march on Washington DC is exactly what we need. There is another thread to put together a gluten-free convention and I mentioned having it in Chicago but now I think we could do it in DC and combine it with our protest. Like if we had a three day convention, two days would be seeing speakers and having our gluten...
  19. All I can say is your child obviously can NOT tolerate gluten - period! Why this doc has changed his tune is beyond me....it's almost like docs will do anything not to dx Celiac. What the h&%$ is going on? My sister's pcp said something like 'unless you want to change your whole life you may not want to get tested for Celiac' Excuse me! Of course it's...
  20. I was wondering how many of you have family members that were tested for Celiac, have it and now can't cope with the diet. Since I feel so much better off gluten I just can't imagine not sticking to the diet but I know this is not the case for everyone. Someone in my family who was dx'd due to my dx, is upset that she doesn't feel better in only 10 days ...
  21. The drug companies have a lot of $$$$ to loose if we are diagnosed.
  22. I can't cook well enough with or without gluten to enter a cooking contest but I'm all about a conference and if I can swing it I'll be there. What about Chicago as a centralized location? CA is too far for most (I think) but Chicago is fairly central and always has lots of great hotel offers for groups. I may be able to help with planning starting this summer...
  23. Please tell your friend about Celiac and it's relationship to some miscarriages. When I heard that infertility and multiple miscarriages are sometimes linked to untreated Celiac I was shocked. The Dr. who spoke of this is a Celiac expert and she said docs just never think to test these women for Celiac. There were quite a few tearful sniffles in our group...
  24. Oh my! The apple pie song is a riot!!! Thanks for sharing! I never knew that Maniac song had to many lyrics....well there are enough creative people on here to replace them all with appropriate gluten free humor I'm sure. Canadian Karen....I know you've got something to add as you are a great writer after all. No pressure of course Berneses.....
  25. Glad I could make you alll laugh....I'll tell my BIL his song is a big hit! If any one has the energy to add more lyrics we'd all love to hear (read) them!
