ARCHIVED New Member--symptoms Worse After Being Gluten Free For A While?
Nancym replied to JenKuz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have a lot of the same symptoms I have. The eyelid swelling one was really strange. I'd wake up with one eyelid about 4x the size of the other one. It'd happen about once every 6 weeks or so. I am Gluten/casein and soy free and I am still experiencing the soft stools. But many of my symptoms are gone. If I stick to a strict paleo diet I do a... -
ARCHIVED When Will Enterolab Test For More Food Intolerances?
Nancym replied to CantEvenEatRice's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I saw Dr. Fine speak a couple months ago in San Diego. He mentioned they're going to have lot more intolerance tests available "soon". They were working out some technical issues. Don't ask me when, all I know is "soon". -
ARCHIVED Unexpected Positive Effects Of New gluten-free Eating Habits?
Nancym replied to munchkinette's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My benefit is that I don't clog up the toilet whenever I go #2. I was about ready to replace all my toilets because I had to unplug them constantly. -
ARCHIVED Casein Free Diet--is Whey Protein Ok?
Nancym replied to kathy2005's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I've heard that whey protein is contaminated with casein proteins too. -
ARCHIVED Unexpected Benefit Of Going gluten-free
Nancym posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Before I went gluten free I was ready to rip out and replace all the toilets in my house with ones that could handle disposing of more... waste without plugging. I've been gluten-free/CF for nearly a year now. I totally forgot about my issue with the toilets until my sister came over and left me with a clogged toilet. Then I realized I wasn't unclogging... -
ARCHIVED Trader Joe's - Do They Hide Gluten Or Chance Of Cc?
Nancym replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My thought is they change products more often than they change their gluten-free list. -
ARCHIVED Before Going gluten-free Was Anyone Else Always Hungry?
Nancym replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just read an article about celiac messing up CCK. CCK is a hormone that causes satiety. I always noticed that whenever I ate wheat, I could eat forever and not feel full. You might try putting CCK celiac into a search engine and see what you can find. -
ARCHIVED My Cat Is Now Gluten Free!
Nancym replied to jerseyangel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I vary it a lot. I found places I could order pet food meats like rabbit, deer, beef, chicken, goat, turkey and have it delivered frozen. Sometimes I just grind chicken for him. Today I'm going to find a Bravo distributor in my area and pick up some of their meat mixtures. His favorites seem to be chicken, beef offal, and goat. He was really keen on... -
ARCHIVED My Cat Is Now Gluten Free!
Nancym replied to jerseyangel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I stopped using kibble for my cat entirely because I know how badly I digest grains, and my species has had about 10,000 years to adapt. I figured cats were less well equipped than we are. So now he's just having meat, raw meat. His health has improved a lot. -
ARCHIVED Villous Atrophy
Nancym replied to Helena's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your doctor put you on Barley when you're a diagnosed celiac? What on earth for? -
ARCHIVED Got Worse On Wheat-free Diet
Nancym replied to KevinG's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One thing to think about, if you're hitting the gluten-free substitutes hard they might have bean flours in them. Beans have a lot of "resistant starches" that can't be digested by humans and it goes down to the intestines and gets passed onto bacteria that digest it, they produce gas and possibly other things when they feed. So you might want to pass up... -
I've had similar conversations with food workers. They didn't know what wheat was. Man, our school system is terrible. How do you get out of high school with that lack of fundamental understanding? Good grief!

ARCHIVED Peanuts, Beans And Sugar Alcohols
Nancym replied to arc's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Interesting idea, Arc. Sounds better than my lame ideas. Maybe those sugars were ending up in the bloodstream and going away via urine? I know they use sugar alcohols to diagnose leaky gut. I think the idea is that the "leaks" aren't normally big enough to let the SA through to the blood stream. So they give you a sugar alcohol with a big molecule... -
ARCHIVED Help! New Celiac Gaining Weight, Depressed!
Nancym replied to melie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Are you getting any supplemental thyroid hormone? Weight control is about impossible without proper thyroid functioning. I speak from experience! Also, is this fat-gain? Are the clothes getting tighter? There's a possibility here that it might be muscle gain. Especially if your protein intake has recently increased. -
ARCHIVED Mechanisms Behind The Leaky Gut
Nancym replied to mle-ii's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
This is kind of like 'the theory of everything' for Celiac disease! Very interesting paper. -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Other Autoimmune Diseases
Nancym replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Dr. Fine mentioned in his lecture that Casein seems to be something that might explain autoimmune diseases. He also seemed to think that dairy products cause more osteoperosis than it prevents, but he didn't elaborate. -
ARCHIVED Peanuts, Beans And Sugar Alcohols
Nancym replied to arc's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
It is a mystery to me. I also feel like I'm more sensitive to things to. Only thing I can figure is: 1) My gluten induced IBS masked other foods causing me issues. 2) I'm just paying more attention to what my body is telling me now. 3) Maybe the "glue" in gluten (and casein) was the only thing holding my intestines together 4) Something else... -
ARCHIVED A Question About Enterolab

ARCHIVED A Question About Enterolab
Nancym replied to IMResident's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow, this is sounding familiar. I just had an episode of D that lasted a couple of weeks and I got this horrible twitch in my lower eyelid. Going on 2+ weeks now that sucker is jumping. That and tiny pinprick sensations in my hips and thighs. I jumped back onto the B12 and didn't have any relief. Restarted my B-complex and still didn't get relief. ... -
ARCHIVED I Understand That "tailz" Has Been Banned From This Site.
Nancym replied to Lymetoo's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I thought it was odd that two people recently joined the board with pretty much the same Lyme message. Now I understand. -
ARCHIVED Peanuts, Beans And Sugar Alcohols
Nancym replied to arc's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hey Arc, fancy meeting you here, assuming you're the same Arc from Lowcarber.org. Have you tried Erythritol? It is a very kindly sugar alcohol, but a bit pricey. The reason sugar alcohols hurt your tummy/gut is because most of them are undigestible by the human you. They have to be digested by the bacteria in your gut which, in turn, produce gas.... -
ARCHIVED Long Term Neg Affects Of Limiting Gluten
Nancym replied to lancpa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What nutrient is in wheat, barley or any other grain that you can't get elsewhere? (I'll cheat and tell you: None) What grains provide is a cheap source of calories. That's why it has become such a staple. -
ARCHIVED A Question About Enterolab
Nancym replied to IMResident's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In some ways, I think IMResident's story really unscores my frustration with doctoring these days. If someone is sick and passes all the usual tests then the automatic diagnosis is depression. So many unusual or difficult diagnosises are missed because of doctor's refusing to think of Zebras when they hear hoofbeats. Strangely enough, for every disease... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab And False Positives?
Nancym replied to CantEvenEatRice's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you search for "enterolab negative" you'll come up with lots of info. This question gets asked about once a week. -
ARCHIVED Celiac's? Not Exactly...
Nancym replied to RunnerNYC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well it is a good reminder to us that not everything that looks like celiac is celiac! After your surgery and recuperation, you might still want to try the gluten-free diet and see if it adds anything to your health, if you're so inclined.
