  1. Dr. Fine has also kept statistics on how many people reported positive changes in their health after going gluten free. Wish I had that slide. It was pretty astounding. Even some of the ones that didn't test positive (Maybe IgA deficient?) felt better. Stick out your gluten-free trial a while longer. Some of my symptoms took a lot longer than 2 weeks...
  2. Casein is very glue-y! I ordered some pure casein from a company that sells various protein powders and it was nasty stuff to work with. I wonder if anyone gets intolerance to whey? That's the other protein in milk. Gina, I would advise not trying to replace the dairy with something else, like soy. Soy is pretty tough for a lot of us too and...
  3. Well, I'm kind of the opposite of Nini. I would recommend meat or eggs at all meals then the desire to snack will completely leave. At least, that is how it works for my body. I'm eating paleo-ish which means basically fruit, veggies, meats, fish and limited nuts/seeds. My one exception is I nibble on very high quality, dairy free dark, dark chocolate...
  4. Definitely! Like how to get medicines to the brain. But boy, I'd hate to be in THAT clinical trial.
  5. You should check in with the lowcarb folks of the world. I'm both gluten free and starch/sugar free (as much as is possible) and I often bake. I use almond flour, flax meal, coconut flour and stuff like that. Here's a good forum for you: Open Original Shared Link? There's a huge recipe section down towards the bottom with years of recipes. Use...
  6. I had this from gluten but also from dairy (casein) as well. Also, exhaustion can be a symptom of other autoimmune diseases as well. Has she had her thyroid checked?
  7. Dr. Fine's work will one day be accepted and emulated. I had the marvelous opportunity to hear him speak in person. It takes a long, long time to change practices in medicine. I took 10 years (and a lot of reeducation effort from the NIH) to get doctors to accept that ulcers are caused (often) by a bacteria. The poor Aussy who discovered this was laughed...
  8. He's got a good essay on there of why you want to detect it before it gets to the blood: Open Original Shared Link
  9. We often crave the very thing that does us damage. I had HUGE cravings for wheat and the same with dairy, both of which I'm sensitive to. I've read that the proteins in these break down into peptides that resemble opiates so it might be that is why.
  10. I think H. Pylori is checked with saliva or breath, although I have heard of some people using endoscopy to check for it too. So, really... I don't know what is currently being used.
  11. Have you been checked for H. Pylori? It is the bacteria that causes ulcers.
  12. Hmmm... he probably shouldn't be eating oats if he is gluten free. Sed rate is used to indicate that there might be an autoimmune disease, but it doesn't really tell you which one you have. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease, so if the body was fighting off gliadin proteins it might cause the sed rate to be high (speculating here).
  13. I got the feeling they're were almost saying it isn't worthwhile to prevent all the downstream issues with celiac disease because they're not normal people and they don't really need all that good of a quality of life anyway. Yikes! That article made me feel nasty.
  14. They're different proteins, eggs are usually albumin and some other protein, dairy is casein (protein) or lactose (sugar). I've never heard of a whey (another milk protein) intolerance but I suppose it could happen. It is confusing because they put eggs in the dairy section of the store usually. But dairy free just means stuff derived from milk.
  15. The end result of all those tests is that you would, if positive, adopt a gluten free diet. If you think you need to see the results on a piece of paper with clinic stationary letterhead in order to stay true to gluten-free, or if you had unusual symptoms or even no symptoms, then the testing might help. Oh yeah, the only other case might be if you wanted...
  16. Are they impacted? That'll make a big difference too. I was eating pretty quickly, and they told me to eat normally as soon as possible because you'll heal better. But things like bread crusts were painful for a few days. Creamy soups, shakes, yogurt that sort of thing is easy, soft fruits good too.

    ARCHIVED Amitriptyline

They said if you have hallcinations to call your doctor immediately. That'd be "dreaming" while awake.
  18. I second avocados. There are seeds and nuts (if you're not allergic) and they make "butter" out of some nuts, like almond butter or macadamia nut butter. Also you might try dates (the fruit). There are some fatty meats that might be a good choice for you, pork ribs, pork shoulder. You might try using coconut oil or coconut milk. You could make shakes...
  19. My health insurance calls it "outpatient surgery".
  20. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do. Many of us face the same situation with family members that are showing so many symptoms and suffering so needlessly. But when faced with it, most people would rather suffer years of horrible illness than change their diets.
  21. I was going to buy some when I saw it at Trader Joe's but of course, I wanted to read the label. It was ENORMOUS! I decided anything that was printed that tiny and required that much reading didn't need to go into my mouth.
  22. I have made yogurt off and on for years, but I don't any longer since I gave up dairy products. No, I'm not doing SCD any longer, but I'm following a paleo type of diet, sort-of. I try to just eat meat, fruit and veggies with nuts and seeds, fish. That sort of thing. Makes my stomach much happier.
  23. There's recipes all over the internet. Use google and search
  24. This is probably a long shot but I just read an article about certain fish parasites (that can reside in humans) that can cause anemia and B12 deficiency. Open Original Shared Link
  25. Wow! Sorry to hear your kids had KD. I saw that one on "Mystery Diagnosis". I guess you have to be very lucky to get it diagnosed in time for the IG.
