ARCHIVED Southern California?
Nancym replied to flxmanning's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm sure there is since Dr. Fine mentioned he was speaking to the Orange County celiac group when I saw him in San Diego. -
Describe the pain. Is it muscle soreness or something else? I saw something recently where a woman ruptured an ovarian cyst doing sit-ups. That is very painful.

ARCHIVED Enterolab Results In On My 2 Kids, Feeling Overwhelmed Right Now
Nancym replied to Sarah8793's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you set the expectation that wheat is ok for special occassions, then they'll probably grow up with the notion that wheat is probably ok for them to eat. It is going to be harder for people who don't have drastic, violent reactions to get it straight in their head that it isn't good to eat it. My instinct is that you should take the whole family... -
ARCHIVED I Think I Might Be Casein Intolerant Too :(
Nancym replied to mesmerize's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
All mammal derived milk has casein proteins. It comes in 15 different varities (of casein) but most of them have more than one kind. I'm as sensitive to goat milk as cow. -
ARCHIVED Doctor Doesn't Think I Have It...
Nancym replied to Chelle15's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
IBS isn't a diagnosis. It's a catch-all for "we don't know". I suggest, you just go on the gluten-free diet and see how it works. That's how I came by my diagnosis, and I had IBS for years and years. If you want something official looking, get tested by Enterolab.com. It's the only decent test out there (IMHO). -
I think it depends on whether you're intolerant of lactose or casein. If it is the casein (protein), then no. That is permanent. If it was lactose (sugar), then you might be ok once the villi grow back. Maybe... if you create the enzyme to digest it.

ARCHIVED Should I Stop Eating Ice Cream If It Gives Me "d" ?
Nancym replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Enterolab tests for casein intolerance. Dr. Fine said that casein intolerance is linked to autoimmune disease, but this whole area hasn't been studied anywhere near as much as gluten intolerance. So, I think the short answer is, no one really knows. But personally, after having acquired 2 autoimmune diseases because of this stuff... I'm listening to what... -
I judge it by how many times I have to wipe. If I'm being good and avoiding all the many foods that hurt me, I do pretty well.

Celiac Disease And High Blood Pressure...
Nancym replied to Sheryl in NJ's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
When I started a low carb diet my blood pressure dropped to normal (was edging up all the time) and has stayed that way ever since. In my case, eating more meat, fruits and veggies and less starches and sugars made an enormous difference. -
ARCHIVED Why Is One Crumb Too Much?
Nancym replied to azmom3's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just heard a lecture by Dr. Fine and he explained it really well, had charts and stuff showing measurements of antibodies from people who were following the diet very, very closely and those not so closely. Even though you might not have physical symptoms, your body is still reacting to the gluten in your intestines and possibly throughout your body. In... -
ARCHIVED Auto Immunde Diseases
Nancym replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
AIDS is not short for autoimmune disease, it is short for Acquired Immune Deficiency (if I remember correctly). You're more likely to get other autoimmune diseases if you're gluten sensitive. I've had two diagnosed so far. -
ARCHIVED Reading Dr. Green's Book And Feeling Angry
Nancym replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I heard Dr. Fine lecture in San Diego a while back. He was wonderful! He said about 30% of the random people he's tested for IgA in the stool are positive but even more than 30% respond to a gluten-free diet. MD's are only catching the sickest of the sick and Dr. Fine is trying to catch people before they're hugely ill. It is going to take many years... -
ARCHIVED I Think I Might Be Casein Intolerant Too :(
Nancym replied to mesmerize's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Soy hurts my tum too. It takes a whole new way of eating to avoid those. But your friends are meat, fish, poultry, veggies and fruits and eggs (if you're ok with them). SE Asian cuisine is almost completely compatible with my diet so I'm learning lots of Thai and perhaps vietnamese recipes. When I want something like bread I make a "roll" out of eggs... -
ARCHIVED Trying To Dine Out Gluten Free
Nancym replied to RebeccaMSL's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Unfortunately we're putting our health into someone elses hands when we dine out. I wish there was a magic wand one could wave to make it different than it is. I don't have much to add but my sympathy and wishes for a speedy recovery. Some people react worse to gluten when they're not constantly exposed to it. -
ARCHIVED Microwave Bread Recipe
Nancym replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Funny, I was inspired by that posting too. Decided to figure out a way to make an egg based bread without starchy gluten-free flours. I make mine with flax meal and almond meal. Comes out great! I use the top of a small casserole dish as my mould. -
ARCHIVED Can You Please Describe Your Feeling Of Brain Fog?
Nancym replied to azmom3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I also want to add, I've been supplementing every sort of B vitamin I can. I have sublingual B12/Folate and a B-50 supplement. That might have also helped me. -
ARCHIVED Excessive Bruising? Anemia? Low Vitamin B?
Nancym replied to Trish in Canada's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've always been a bruiser. Some of it was food intolerances I'm sure. I think I'm better now and I have been taking supplements, especially B supplements. One thing though, if you're allergic or sensitivie to something in dairy you shouldn't continue to consume it. You'll be keeping your body in a state of producing autoimmune stuff and it might lead... -
ARCHIVED Can You Please Describe Your Feeling Of Brain Fog?
Nancym replied to azmom3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It didn't hit me until I was out of school, the worst of it came on this new job I had when I couldn't seem to learn the new stuff I needed. It was a monumental task and nothing would stick in my head. I always had a great memory and excellent concetration when I was young. The driving thing, I think that happens to some extent to everyone, brain fog... -

ARCHIVED Distilled Water A Big No-no
Nancym replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know a lot of people like Mercola, but he's a bit of a quack IMHO. Every now and then he stumbles onto something I agree wtih but he's always selling stuff and trying to get people scared about everything. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Can You Please Describe Your Feeling Of Brain Fog?
Nancym replied to azmom3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I felt like I was getting dumber as I aged. My memory was horrible. I'd come to work and sit in front of the keyboard trying to remember my passwords. I felt sleepy and tired ALL the time, no matter how much I slept. Learning something new was about impossible. Memorizing anything wasn't working either. It was like someone had replaced my brain... -

ARCHIVED Distilled Water A Big No-no
Nancym replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just a hint on how you can figure this sort of thing out yourself. Try typing in "distilled water myth" in google. Usually snopes.com has pretty good debunking on most established myths, although they didn't have anything about distilled water. The Internet is rife with scams and people trying to sell you crud you don't need by making you afraid of something... -
ARCHIVED Dd Had The Lactose Breath Test
Nancym replied to sclark9602's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Dairy makes me bloat and gives me gas too. But it isn't the lactose, it is the casein. I didn't realize it until Enterolab tested me for it. -
ARCHIVED Celiac, Brain Fog, And Alzheimer's
Nancym replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Some of my brain fog also came from dairy. Once I got off all the things I'm intolerant of, it went away! Took awhile but I rarely have it now. I remember I used to sit in front of my computer trying to remember my passwords. Now they just come shooting out the end of my fingers.
