ARCHIVED All Or Nothing?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to JenM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Can anyone show this thread to their "celiac disease" or GS/GI doctor? I have often thought some of the stuff we discuss here as lamen could be answered by one the leading docs in the field (though I'm sure they have better things to do than be our answer-puppet ) Just a thought..... -
ARCHIVED 90% Protein Powder
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to jakesgirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From Gluten Free Living (Tricky Ingredients) Yeast All brand-name packaged yeasts sold in the US are gluten free. Autolyzed yeast in a food product is generally considered gluten free. Brewers yeast, when it's a by-product of beer, is not considered gluten free. Brewers yeast nutritional supplements, however, can be made from either brewer’s yeast or s... -

ARCHIVED Mysteriously Glutened By Amy's Kitchen?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's too bad. I rely on the Amy's Mac n Cheese for 2-3 of my meals per week. Sorry to hear about your loss.....(of the Mac N Cheese) -
Jen, ok, just got off the phone with Jared (the executive chef at The Ocean Club). He said that the chilean sea bass dish on the menu is definitely gluten-free. From the website: SEARED CHILEAN SEA BASS roasted shallot gratin, wilted spinach, champagne truffle cream Furthermore, if you don't like that, he can work with you regarding...

ARCHIVED Resturants- Dining Out
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Robie's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I am the opposite. I am petrified of Buffets. I live in VEgas and the only one I will go to is the Bellagio because they can tell you all of the ingredients (though it is a giant pain in the butt). Way too much cross-contamination -- too much people using the same ladels for the same food , same knives for different meats ---- I used to get sick... -
Don't be afraid to repeat the Salad with no croutons thing. I usually tell the guy/lady 3 times as that is the most common mistake and it is common for them to take the salad in the back and manually take off the croutons --- a good rule of thumb is to have a manager take the salad back if it has croutons (I may not trust the managers on a food knowledge...

Jen, I lived (and worked in Easton) for a few years back in the day. I had success at a few places there. You should be able to eat at the Ocean Club. Go to www.cameronmitchell.com and click on the Ocean Club restaurant. -- Cameron's places are pretty good and knowledgeable places -- the chefs are ALL ABOUT customer service. The head chef at...

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to tammy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Normally, each year I try to have Thanksgiving and a "Festivus" dinner party. The ironic thing is the meal is completely gluten free, but I am the only Celiac that attends.....I am always surrounded by "gluten-friendly-folks"... ANOTHER FESTIVUS MIRACLE!!!!!!!!!!! -
ARCHIVED Shoul I Cooperate With My Gastroenterologist?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to ashhm's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is also possible to be gluten intolerant, but not have celiac disease. It wouldn't hurt to bring that up with the doctor....There are quite a few of us here that are GI but do not have celiac disease... -

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Eliza13's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

My new roommate just ruined my toaster.... The funny thing was he asked me afterwards, "Hey why does that toaster say C.D.'s toaster-- Dont Use?" I looked at him and said, "You used it didn't you?" How Long Does It Take For Skin To Clear Up?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to carrielynn's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have had DH since I was diagnosed (1997). It is nowhere near as bad as the first 2 years, however, it still comes up -- especially if I do not take Dapsone every other day or so.... Problem is, I eat out 2-5 times a week, so it is going to happen no matter how careful I am... For occasions at friends houses, I always have aluminum foil in the car... -
ARCHIVED Turkey Stuffing
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to 11111's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My name is Christopher I should add that the "simmering of the mirepoix (mihr-PWAH)" (carrots, celery and onions) is dicretionary -- sometimes it takes longer than 10 -- probably 15-20 actually). Never hurts to taste test!!! Each year when I cook for Turkey Day, I am always so full from "taste testing" I never get a chance to sit down and pig out... -

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to 11111's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Nancy, Try my recipe -- it is worlds better. In a skillet, brown 1 lb Jimmy Dean Sausage (I like the hot). Remove the sausage (but keep the grease -- you don't have to if you dont want to) In the same large skillet, sautee on low heat in butter and olilve oil some diced up carrots, celery and onions ( I also add one diced Jalapeno pepper) --- enough... -

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Steak marinade??? Did they clean the grill? Does the bacon contain soy sauce (some do) Did they cut the baked potato with the same knife that they use to apply butter to bread or does the knife used to cut the baker touch anything besides the baker??? Is the butter real butter? Do they brush the steak with butter when it was done?? If so, is... -

ARCHIVED Help, Keep Getting Gluten!
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to key's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry to hear about your pain and frustration....you may not like this next morsel of advice/reality. Some people with celiac when going through the "healing process" become ultra sensitive and even "sick for no reason" --- you sort have to accept that your body is healing itself and may react adversely to some foods that normally never gave you a problem... -
ARCHIVED Food Ingredient Label Question To Mfg.
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Bigdawg's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree Richard. My only concern would be for hidden gluten. Having said that, I have not run into many instances where barley or rye is used in food additives, preservatives or starches. Wheat is the biggest problem by far.
