  1. Hello Lottie Gluten could well be getting in. However, other causes of fatigue might be to do with thyroid issues, or even blood sugar issues, but I imagine your doctor will be ordering tests to cover these eventualities. I do hope you get some answers soon. Cristiana
  2. Hi Steve A very warm welcome to the forum. You and your Mum may well be onto something here. Anemia is very common in coeliac disease. You ask if anyone here has had similar symptoms: Well, I too had unexplained anemia. I felt extremely breathless walking up hills. I remember going on a walk one Easter and people nearly double my age...
  3. Hi GFF I've been there and totally commiserate. It took until a few months ago for my numbers to get to 9 (my lab's limit is 10). It was a slow and frustrating journey that lasted many years - you will see from my signature I went gluten free in 2013! Looking back, I think I can only put this down to perhaps accidental cross-contamination (I share...
  4. Thank you for sending those ranges. Re: blood tests, put simply, the doctors are looking at the antibodies that the body makes in response to eating gluten. Once numbers are above the upper normal ranges, doctors suspect coeliac disease. I hope this explanation helps, but there are people better placed to answer that on the forum who can chime in if...
  5. Hi Christy and welcome! Would you be able to forward the lab's "normal" ranges with the figures you've sent us. They should appear with the printout. Labs ranges vary enormously. Many thanks. Cristiana
  6. Hi Mandy Here in the UK it is recommended a person consumes about 2 pieces of gluten containing (wheat, barley, rye) toast a day for six weeks, or some others say two meals a day for six weeks should contain gluten as a key ingredient. If you haven't been consuming gluten and then had a one off trigger event which may be what you are referring to...
  7. @Wheatwacked how much D do you take? I've been prescribed 800 iu D3 a day but I wonder if it might not be enough.
  8. "It also mentions that getting the live virus could also cause such issues as well, thus, getting the vaccine would still likely be the best bet for most people." I think what this says, Scott, is a very good point. A sibling and I developed both arrhythmia c. 10 days after our second jab. We didn't realise this coincidence until some months later...
  9. Hello Jereh and welcome to the forum A lot of people become gluten free without needing to be so. For them, gluten isn't harmful. But if you do have coeliac disease, Non-coeliac gluten sensitivity, or an actual allergy to it, gluten is harmful and needs to be cut out of the diet completely. I ate it for years without realising I had coeliac disease...
  10. Hello there Tyee Welcome to the forum. When I read this it reminded me of the letter I got from my consultant when I was awaiting my biopsy results. He wrote the endoscopy was normal. By that I think he meant he couldn't see any stomach ulcers, bleeding etc. The thing is, it isn't always possible to see coeliac villi damage with the naked eye...
  11. Congratulations on the referral, I think it will be well worth it. As you are going through the UK system, I'd read through Coeliac UK's recommendations that apply to your situation beforehand and take notes as these points might be helpful to discuss with a gastroenterologist. I understand it is possible to have anemia with Non-Coeliac Gluten Sensitivity...
  12. Hi Angela I've just checked what the recommended action is for someone in your position on the Coeliac UK website. Please do have a read and if you feel you have been eating enough gluten, and that isn't the problem, it suggests the next step you should take. I'm sorry as this isn't straight forward for you. Cristiana https://www.coeliac...
  13. I have an arachonoid cyst in my brain which a neurologist told me was "of no clinical importance". It is always noted on MRI scans as an incidental finding, and was found about nine years before my coeliac diagnosis when I started to get aura migraines. As far as I know it has never changed in size, I seem to recall my neurologist told me it would have...
  14. You are very welcome, Liam. Do keep in touch and let us know how you are progressing, and come back to us if you have any more questions. And I agree with you, I wasn't terribly convinced with the dyspepsia diagnosis either! I felt sure that my Doc was going to say that they'd found my stomach was red raw, but he never mentioned it. Possibly...
  15. Hi Liam I may be wrong because I don't know all your details but I've just put your current weight and height into the BMI calculator the NHS provide online (I made up your age, level of physical activity etc ... because I don't know all those details) and it comes out with the result that your weight is now in the healthy range. Is it possible...
  16. Hi Liam I am sorry as I don't have time to read through your post properly but hopefully some of this might help. I was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2013 but it took an absolute age (this year in fact) for my blood test (tTG) to go down to normal levels. Still to this day I have no idea why, I was v. careful, stopped eating out etc etc. Anyway...
  17. I used to just wave the teabag in the water, now when I have peppermint tea I leave it there for a good couple of minutes. Ditto chamomile for as an alternative to caffeine if I have gastritis or a UTI. I think it helps to have it as strong as one can bear it. I can't say I'm that keen on the taste but it does seem to help.
  18. Something has just reminded me to mention, have you tried drinking peppermint tea? I have IBS as well as coeliac disease and if I get constipated and bloated I find it very helpful.
  19. As you say, it has only been three weeks. I've been through long stretches of having severe pelvic pain and bloating and my gastroenterologist recommended I had a pelvic scan just to make sure there weren't any non-coeliac issues going on, like problems with the ovaries, fibroids etc. I was given a blood test too. I found it reassuring to have these...
  20. Constipation is a real issue for many coeliacs. I have a close relative who is suffering from constipation and she is about to be tested for coeliac disease. I am not sure if you are a woman (forgive me if I've missed this info in this post!) but if so, it is worth considering that sometimes constipation can be linked with gynecological issues, such...
  21. Hi Angela How frustrating to have to wait for the printout. But at least you will know in a month. Do come back to us then. I ought to just say, however, that I had a tTG test done some months ago and it arrived many days after the other blood tests came in. Possibly about ten days later, I can't recall. No idea why, but this may happen...
  22. I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong but it looks to me as if you are still waiting for the tTG result. Hopefully this was ordered by your doctor. Do please check this was done. Coeliac UK recommend the NHS to order both. I am not scientific so I find it very difficult to assimilate anything which involves acronyms, figures and the like...
  23. Hi Angela I totally understand your frustration. Do you think the receptionist gave you what the normal range was for their labs? Every lab should provide normal parameters alongside test results - if so, it sounds rather as if 0.65-4.21 is that lab's normal range. I have googled one of my favourite NHS websites (https://www.southtees.nhs...
  24. Hi Brookland It might be. Celiacs malabsorption can lead to stool containing a lot of fat, a condition called steatorrhea, which might cause this sort of problem. Or it might be that your stools are loose, so perhaps there is a bit of an issue with stool leaking between BM? If you haven't already, I would recommend you see a doctor and request...
  25. Thanks so much, Nightranger - it all sounds delicious! I hope too that our British (sort of) equivalent, the Penguin, will one day be gluten-free!
