  6. I would advise doing a dietary challenge. Avoid ALL FORMS OF SOY for at least a week, then have a fair amount of it in one sitting. If you react to it, you'll know it's a problem. The reason for doing this is because it can be hard to isolate the effect of ONE food out of all of the foods that we eat.

  8. Yes, celiac disease and most other autoimmune diseases are connected. I can't say if going gluten-free will relieve symptoms either from the lupus or the menopause, but there's certainly a chance of it.
  9. I disagree with the idea that it damages everyone equally, as biopsies taken on people who have had symptoms for a long time still show quite a variety of damage. And some people seem to never register full damage on biopsies, but are still gluten-intolerant. (I'm no expert, so this is the opinion I've formed from my studies; I could well be wrong. :-)...

  14. Yep. Potatoes are not a grain, they're a root vegetable, and not even vaguely related to wheat. Unless you are talking about a packaged produce that uses potatoes, potatoes are safe. (Most frozen french fries are actually gluten-free, but a few have flavorings on them that are not safe.)

  17. Don't overlook the change in mood. Most of my symptoms are NOT related to my GI tract. Mood and energy were two big changes for me, and I tell ya... I accidentally get gluten... might as well avoid me for a few days, 'cause I'll be nasty. :-)

  25. Guar gum is known to generally have a laxative effect - with some people being more sensitive to it than others. While I haven't heard of a specific sensitivity, outside of annecdotal evidence on this and other boards, to it that causes stomach irritation, it's certainly not the strangest of things to be sensitive to. :-)
