  1. If you're questioning it, then you probably need to get the tests done, for your own satisfaction. If you won't go gluten free without proof, then you need the proof. You will have to continue to eat gluten until you can have the tests done, but I'd try to get them done as soon as possible. I went gluten free without the tests, becasue I KNEW it was right...
  2. jodikris, If the doctor doesn't believe you, maybe he'll believe some of these articles. Print them out and bring in to him, especially the first one, which is the NIH consensus on celiac disease. And also point out that the obesity and celiac link is already well established, since NIH includes it in their celiac information. And DH is celiac. Debbie...
  3. Hi Robbin, I'm up in Frederick, MD, not too awfully far from you. Unfortunately, I don't know of a support group in the area. I'm looking - some of the local hospitals occassionally have a class or speaker, but not a regular group. If I hear of anything, I'll let you know. Debbie
  4. Yeah, I wish they had listed more of the symptoms and talked about the neurological problems some celiacs and gluten intolerant people face. But hey, it's a start. And I like the fact that they did talk about how it is so often misdiagnosed. Debbie
  5. I could tell you my story, which started with DH 25 years ago. Unfortunately, it wasn't recognized as DH, so now I have Many, many more health issues. I only found out what I had a few months ago and have been gluten free since. You questioned how you could be overweight and celiac - the problem most people (and most DOCTORS) forget is that a main symptom...
  6. Lists celiac disease as one of the top 7 misdiagnosed illnesses. Word is getting out - slowly. Open Original Shared Link Debbie
  7. I went gluten-free in September (well, August, but I made a lot of mistakes the first few weeks LOL) and my breathing problems have cleared up a lot. But I still have some problems, and I've been thinking of going dairy free. Haven't done it yet, because I LOVE cheese as a quick easy snack, and it's hard to find good gluten-free snacks like that. Sigh, but...
  8. Post has a new Pebbles cereal out - with marshmallows. The ingrediants on that box do contain gluten. The ingredients list on the cocoa and fruity still don't list any gluten products. So hopefully they haven't changed the old ones, it's just the new one we can't have. Debbie
  9. Actually, I believe that there are some dried fruits with a coating or preservative which contains gluten. Debbie
  10. Rachel, Yes. And the only dumb question is the one you don't ask. Debbie
  11. I have problems with some processed meats, and buy organic or pasture raised whenever possible. This website was a big help to me in finding local farmers - luckily there are several near me. You can check your state, and see if there's anyone near you. Open Original Shared Link Debbie
  12. Like with every thing else, a range is exactly that - a range - and all numbers in it are NOT optimal for all people. Men usually have slightly higher TSH than woman, and TSH does have a tendency to get higher as one gets older. So a TSH of 4.0 might be absolutely perfect for an 80 year old man, but much too high for a 20 year old woman, who's TSH should...
  13. I preordered this from Amazon, and it arrived yesterday! I haven't read all of it yet, I flipped through for a bit, then started reading, but so far it looks really good. He does a little bit of CYA stuff, with saying things like celiac may be linked to (fill in your own autoimmune disease, neurological condition, etc. ) but it hasn't yet been proven, etc...
  14. Actually, the big thing I miss is just the CONVENIENCE of being able to eat gluten - not having to ask about every ingredient in things; ordering whatever you want off the menu; going to any restaurant, instead of across town to the one with a gluten-free menu. There isn't any pre-gluten-free food I liked that I haven't been able to duplicate (sometimes...
  15. Congratulations! (And maybe I need a trip to NE also.) Debbie
  16. Vincent, I'd double and triple check the whipped cream. If that's the kind in a can, I believe they often use something to stabalize it. Most brands use powdered sugar, but I think flour can be used as a stabalizer also. So it's possible that there was a little wheat flour in it. Debbie
  17. I don't find the diet difficult, except when eating out. And that's managable with care. It's not just the possible increase in cancer - gluten intolerance and celiac have been linked to many other diseases and illnesses - increased chance of autoimmune diseases, such as asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, thyroid disease, addison's disease...
  18. As far as I know, Prometius only does the blood tests, it doesn't do the DNA tests. I think it just does this panel: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Total Serum IgA That isn't going to tell you if you have the genes for gluten intolerance or celiac, even the few that...
  19. I ordered the York celiac disease test back in October - my cc was charged 10/26. I finally got the kit last week, after many calls, emails, etc. I had heard that they were out and were waiting for a new shipment in Nov., but when I called and talked to them in mid Dec., they said they had just gotten their new supply and were shipping them out. It STILL...
  20. Whenever one of the kids is selling GS cookies (or some other cookies/pizza etc. for school) I always buy one or two, and then just bring them in and leave them in the break room at work. My fellow employees love it, and I don't have to disappoint the kids. Debbie
  21. While the wheat is converted during sprouting, there is still a chance that the entire amount isn't converted - if the grass is "harvested" before complete sprouting is finished, etc. The amounts would be minute, but could add up. It's the whole processing thing too - the wheat grass may be processed in the same facility and lines ets. as whole wheat. I try...
  22. There are some other alternatives besides tampons. Last time I had a yeast infection, I couldn't use pads either because the chemicals in them aggravated everything, and drove me absolutely crazy with itching. I found glad rags then and that worked really well for me. You might want to check some of their products. Open Original Shared Link Debbie
  23. Very good article. Took a bit of concentration to fully understand - I had to read some parts a couple of times, but definately a keeper for my files. Debbie
  24. 1. Yes, you only need to inherit one copy of the gene, from one parent, in order to have it. 2. The DNA tests from enterolab do not require you to be eating gluten - the DNA is the same gluten-free or on gluten. Some of the other tests, like the antibody tests, might need you to be consuming gluten. Debbie
  25. Before going gluten-free, I had very erratic sleep. I'd fall asleep easily, but only sleep for 2-3 hours, then be awake for 2-3 hours, then sleep again for another couple of hours. Needless to say, I was always tired, but just couldn't stay asleep long enough to get some really good deep sleep. Since going gluten-free I've been doing better - a little bit...
