ARCHIVED Diagnosed As Child And Diagnosed Again As An Adult
codetalker replied to Gluten free Gaynor's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I predate the previous posters. I was DX'd as a "celiac baby" in 1952 at Johns-Hopkins. A couple of years later, the doctors felt I had outgrown it and told my parents to put me back on a regular diet. All I was told while I was growing up was that I had been "sick as a baby". No mention of celiac until my late 30's. The way my mom explained it, they... -

ARCHIVED Does Bcm7 (A Milk Opiod) Initiate Celiac Disease?
codetalker replied to icm's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
A while back, I watched a program that explained epigenetics. The first thing that went through my mind was that it might explain why someone with genetic factors for celiac might not present the usual symptoms. Surprisingly, yours is probably the first post I've seen that mentioned epigenetics. -

ARCHIVED Celiac Dating Sites?
codetalker replied to alucard4545's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Speaking of the non-celiac sites, I often wonder why it is even necessary to have celiac-only dating sites when there are mainstream sites that could work just as well. If your profile includes the word celiac or gluten, then searches on one of those words will find your profile. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Dating Sites?
codetalker replied to alucard4545's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My experience with celiac dating sites has been that their undoing is always the same: they all lack the critical mass of members. For example, I -

ARCHIVED At What Age Did You Develop Neuropathy, Joint, Muscle Pain?
codetalker replied to n1c0le's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I started experiencing bone and joint pain right around your age (about 22-23 YO). In particular, my knees gave out. It was necessary to give up jogging and any activity that involved running. Even a few seconds would cause my knees to lock up. -

Would you mind a couple of questions about the ASD? Is it a self-DX or were you DX'd by a medical professional? If the latter, what type of professional made the DX? Also, were you a child or an adult? The reason I ask is that I worked in data processing and several years before I retired, ASD was the big thing in the data processing trade press....

This is an interesting question. I assume you are talking about children who do not have celiac disease. If I had a non-celiac child, I would not want to penalize or handicap them with my diet. That said, I have often thought that if I had known in time I would not have had kids at all. There are lots of reasons. One is that I would not want any...

ARCHIVED Why Do We React With Anger When People Do Not Get It?
codetalker replied to Chad Sines's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Truth be told, that radio clip was so egregious that it was actually bearable. My reaction was basically to shake my head in disbelief, especially in view of our culture of political correctness. -

ARCHIVED Why Do We React With Anger When People Do Not Get It?
codetalker replied to Chad Sines's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A very long time ago, I worked in a child care facility for troubled kids. One of the things we were taught during our training sessions was that anger usually comes from frustration. When people experience frustration, that frustration can express itself as anger. It is safe to say that the life of a celiac is one of constant, continual and unrelenting... -
ARCHIVED Chloraseptic
codetalker replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've used Cloroseptic without the problems you mentioned. Last time I had a sore throat, I tried something different: gargling warm water with cayenne pepper. I did this with some trepidation since I found this on the Internet. Nonetheless, it worked great. It was initially unpleasant but after a few minutes, my throat felt much better. The effect... -
ARCHIVED Flying Toast!
codetalker replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like Ener-G Tapioca bread, too. When I tried the light version, the same thing happened, although my slices just popped up high enough to end up flat on the top of the toaster. The light wasn't my favorite. It was like eating air. Also, the loaf was so light, I felt like I was being overcharged. -

ARCHIVED Help With Breakfast
codetalker replied to Celiac and Intolerant's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Just out of curiosity, how does your intolerance of eggs, corn and sweet potatoes manifest itself? Also, are you reacting to actual sweet potatoes or are they possibly yams? Do you know if your intolerance is to both sweet potatoes and yams? The reason I ask is that your list of items is somewhat similar to a list I had for about 3 years. The eggs... -
ARCHIVED Musings On The Lunch Room
codetalker replied to Jestgar's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are a lot of celiacs that share your sentiments. Almost everything I eat is made from scratch. Most is organic. As a result, my diet is not only gluten-free but also extremely healthy. I guess this is an example of the gluten-free diet
