ARCHIVED Return Of The Monster Child
Ursa Major replied to Aleshia's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
While you don't want to tell him that it is okay to behave like that, actually disciplining him wouldn't be appropriate for something that he has no control over. It very much sounds like your son was glutened somehow, and he is suffering and has no idea why he is so miserable. Just try being loving, without coddling or pitying him. This won't be the last... -
ARCHIVED Gerd Developed After Going Gluten Free
Ursa Major replied to dth's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The problem could be the gluten-free replacement foods. They are often very high in starch and sugars, and are very hard to digest. If I eat gluten-free bread, cookies or cake I invariably get acid reflux. The more I eat of those things, the worse it will get. Try going very light on officially gluten-free foods, and eat more naturally gluten-free food... -
ARCHIVED Candida Overgrowth
Ursa Major replied to holdthegluten's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
You are saying that you are now purposely going to attack Rachel. If I find you following up on that promise, I can promise you that I will make sure you will be banned from this board, as that is not tolerated here. Rachel wasn't attacking you or anybody else. I just read through the entire thread to find where she attacked you, and the only attack I... -
Vitamin E Oil
Ursa Major replied to mysecretcurse's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A lot of vitamin E is derived from wheat germ oil. Many brands are derived from soy. You might want to find out where the vitamin E in your brand is coming from. If it isn't wheat germ oil, then you are okay. If soy, it depends if you are intolerant to soy. A few people here couldn't get really well, and eventually found out that their vitamins had... -
ARCHIVED Confusion Over Test Results
Ursa Major replied to rickkman's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you did a mostly gluten-free diet for a year and were back on a full gluten diet for only a month, then that would have caused a negative biopsy. Still, your blood work is positive. Since you have never been 100% gluten-free you are still reacting enough to have positive blood work and are still doing damage to yourself. Which might also be the cause... -
ARCHIVED Publix gluten-free Brochure
Ursa Major replied to cmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
How very frustrating that such misinformation is being given out! It will keep many people sick who believe those lies. -
ARCHIVED Ok To Fly With Cheese, Meat?
Ursa Major replied to stolly's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I don't believe there will be any problem at all taking those foods. I've taken a lot of food on many flights, and never had a problem. Other than little one-helping cans of pears this past February, when we went to Mexico. They took the one that was in my purse (my on-flight snack), but left the one in my backpack! Coming home from Mexico, the security... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Tried Humaworm?
Ursa Major replied to Nancym's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
So, I still had D on Wednesday night. As soon as I started the humaworm the D stopped cold. I didn't have any bm's for two days. Today I finally had a fairly small one. Most of it sank and it looked normal, but a strange looking lump (about two inches in diameter) floated, and looked suspicious. I had a closer look and it was either one very long rolled... -
ARCHIVED Would You Consider This A Positive Celiac Result?
Ursa Major replied to todzwife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Those results are high. How old is your daughter? If she is under six the chance of blood work and endoscopy being a false negative are high. It doesn't really matter if it is officially celiac disease or gluten intolerance. Your daughter is obviously at least gluten intolerant, and has definitely quite severe malabsorption. If it was my kid, I'd put... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Those New Enamel Building Toothpastes?
Ursa Major replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here is a review of one of them by somebody who tried it. Open Original Shared Link This one looks a little more promising, however, and may be worth trying. Open Original Shared Link -
As far as I know, swollen lymph nodes are always an indication of an infection somewhere. Obviously, your doctor can't have ruled out every kind of infection if he hasn't found the cause yet. You should be concerned about the swollen lymph nodes, and your doctor should be as well! I had swollen lymph nodes frequently when still eating gluten. Of course...

ARCHIVED Vaccination A Trigger?
Ursa Major replied to Krystens mummy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The celiac disease genes are usually switched on because of illness, accident or stress. Vaccinations are major stressors, and many kids react very badly to them. So, I think that they could definitely be the cause of her celiac disease starting up. -
ARCHIVED Low Stomach Acidity & A Bit Extra To Ask
Ursa Major replied to Jujbe's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
At the beginning while just starting to heal, you may simply not be able yet to digest anything raw, be it fruit or vegetable. I was unable to eat raw food for six months at the beginning. Try cooking your fruits to see if it makes a difference. Dairy is known to cause gas, and it is recommended to eliminate dairy for the first few months on the gluten... -
ARCHIVED Healing? Please Help
Ursa Major replied to JgeorgeSCR's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Those special gluten-free foods are very hard to digest and are not recommended when starting the diet. And yes, you may be intolerant to soy as well, and it can certainly stop you from healing. Have you checked your vitamins for gluten? You may have to find out what the filler is, it might be wheat. -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Shows gluten-free Diet Ineffective
Ursa Major replied to BUZ's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Are you feeling better eating a gluten-free diet? Are you still having dairy and/or soy products? Those can also damage the villi. Damaged villi can also be caused by systemic candida infection, parasites and other problems. Celiac disease is not the only cause of damaged villi. That said, you may have refractory sprue, meaning that your villi are damaged... -
ARCHIVED Anyone?
Ursa Major replied to kim26's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I did a lengthy Google search, and all I could find was, that a high total IgA is associated with autoimmune diseases. Of course, celiac disease is an autoimmune disease. And we all know that the tests are highly unreliable in young children, which goes for both the blood test and the biopsy. In both false negatives are common. Personally, seeing a... -
ARCHIVED Crescent Roll Recipe
Ursa Major replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That looks fabulous! I copied it and will try it some time. -
I wasn't really implying that the fluoride caused your son's enamel problems, I am sure it was the celiac disease that did that. But the fluoride is surely not going to help it. Maybe you need to up the B12 intake? Is he taking a B vitamin complex? B vitamins work together, so just giving one isn't good. Extra B12 is called for, but he needs the rest of...

ARCHIVED Higher Temp Than Everybody Else?
Ursa Major replied to Krystens mummy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Actually, your temperature is the ideal body temperature, and if everybody else's temperature is below 37 degrees, they are the ones with the problem! -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Tried Humaworm?
Ursa Major replied to Nancym's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Today I am having an awful headache, and my bowels are sort of rumbly and feeling odd. I think I will have a close look once things start coming out (if you hear me screaming you'll know I found something gross ). Maybe I'll take a picture and post it so you can be grossed out, too (just kidding ). -
Laura, it has NEVER been proven that fluoride does anything to help teeth. In fact, it has been linked to tooth enamel PROBLEMS and mottled teeth! Which is no surprise when you realize how toxic it is. I have never allowed any dentist to do their fluoride treatment on my kids during checkups. Nobody will knowingly apply poison to my children's mouths...

ARCHIVED Do Allergies Mean It Can't Be Celiacs?
Ursa Major replied to 3groovygirls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
People with celiac disease can have a wheat allergy in addition to the celiac disease. There are others here who have that (even though it is a minority). I know a young woman who has celiac disease and is severely allergic to wheat as well. If she touches anything with wheat she'll get an awful outbreak of DH within minutes. But if she accidentally ingests... -
Why not freeze some of the food that you take as extras (like cooked chicken)? It would keep the rest of the food cold. If in addition you get those baggies filled with ice, I would think that should surely be enough.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Almost 2 Days Now
Ursa Major replied to Aleshia's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
And you may want to change doctors. If your current doctor is such a bonehead to not even order testing for a bone density scan and is too stupid to understand that celiac disease often causes osteoporosis, and that osteoporosis causes your spine to compress and hence you lose height, then he is useless as a doctor. Plus too narrow minded to listen and taking... -
ARCHIVED 4 Year Old Tested Negative, Now What?
Ursa Major replied to kim26's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter put herself and her five children on the gluten-free diet last year. At that time the children were 1, 3, two 5 year olds, and 7. The only one who complains at times is the three-year-old, because he very obviously is not gluten intolerant and feels no difference either way. But there is no way she would feed one out of five kids gluten! That...
