  1. There is one way to find out if your insurance covers it, and that is to call them and ask. I have no clue about the other questions, as every naturopath is different.
  2. Thanks everybody for your prayers and thoughts. Alison, Zoey lives a four and a half hours drive away from me. With the little energy I've got, and the gas prices being so high, I won't be able to go and see her for another month. So, while your suggestions sound great, I can't do any of that. Her parents also have just barely enough money to stay afloat...
  3. No need to apologize. It can be tricky if you have never participated in a forum before. You'll be a pro in no time. When you click on the reply button that is part of the post window, it will then quote what has been previously said. Which is good if there are several posts, but you want to respond to one post in particular. You can also then edit/take...
  4. I really believe that bad breath could be a celiac disease symptom. My youngest daughter used to have such awful breath, that I could smell it when she sat in the back of the car, with me being the driver. It got much better when I made her 100% dairy free. But it completely disappeared on the gluten-free diet. Since an older sibling had the same problem...
  5. I buy most of my clothing from Lands End. I hate clothes shopping, and with them everything fits the same. Once you know your size, you know everything you order will fit. I do have a few pairs of pants that have a touch of Spandex in them. They are cut wide enough to not cling in the least, but I love that when I bend or kneel there is some give, and...
  6. Meline, you are an adult. Your mom can't 'take' you anywhere, unless you agree. Just tell her you disagree, and thank her for being concerned but that you have no intentions of seeing that homeopath. Mind you, I have a naturopathic doctor who helps me figure things out. But while he thinks we may be able to eventually reduce my intolerances, he knows that...
  7. Dave, I think waiting three months for a biopsy and to keep eating gluten for that long is unacceptable. You may want to call your doctor and tell him that you can't bring yourself to keep eating gluten for that long, knowing that it harms you further. And to please make it possible to have the endoscopy/biopsy sooner. Another problem is, that those biopsies...
  8. I am intolerant to nightshades. Meaning that I can't eat potatoes, tomatoes, peppers (any kind) and eggplant. Tobacco belongs to the nightshades as well. I seem to have no problem with green beans and peas (as long as I don't eat them all the time), but don't do so well with the dried varieties, like white beans or kidney beans.
  9. Well, obviously everything was NOT perfectly normal. He got one positive, and one important test wasn't even done. And yes, being off gluten mattered greatly for that one! Your son had one positive on his blood test. He tested positive with Enterolab, and is doing well a year and a half later on the gluten-free diet. Plus, it is genetic and you have celiac...
  10. You've got excellent advice already, there isn't much I can add, other than that I sympathize with you. What does stand out to me is, that you do NOTHING that is any fun! Everybody needs to have something they can do on a regular basis that is fun. For the first twenty+ years of my marriage my husband pretty much didn't allow me to have any fun at all...
  11. Motrin or Advil really are the same thing as Ibuprofen, I'm afraid. I also can't tolerate Aspirin, Ibuprofen or any related drugs. The reason is, that they are extremely high in salicylates (in fact, that is all Aspirin is). I tried lots of things, but the only thing that will stop a migraine for me (if I take it early enough, there is a point when...
  12. My sweet little granddaughter Zoey (we just went to her second birthday party last Sunday) broke her femur very near the hip joint yesterday (Friday) evening. It was one of those ridiculous freak accidents. My daughter's mother-in-law was with them when it happened, as she had been babysitting Zoey and her ten-month-old sister Sophia, and my daughter was...
  13. We all make mistakes. Don't beat yourself up over it. Hopefully this Snickers bar is gluten-free too, and you won't be glutened. I guess you'll know soon, even if nobody else has ever seen this kind of Snickers bar.
  14. Can you afford Enterolab testing? It is still accurate up to a year after going gluten-free. It convinced my youngest daughter to finally go gluten-free (she is 16).
  15. Unfortunately, it could take three to six months, maybe even a year for your son's villi to be in such bad shape again that the blood tests will be positive. Do you really want him to keep eating gluten that long? He could have irreparable damage by then, or develop diabetes or other autoimmune diseases. Once you have those, you have them for life.
  16. I agree with everything Vicki said. If your doctor referred your son to a pediatric GI doctor, he should have told you to keep your son on a regular diet until after a biopsy. As it is, that biopsy will very likely end up being a false negative, and will be useless in diagnosing celiac disease. But really, the positive blood work and positive dietary...
  17. Well, apparently you are not getting enough iron in your diet. Being a vegetarian could be the cause, as the best source of iron is meat. As a vegetarian who have to always take a good iron supplement to make up for what other people get in their diet. That obviously goes for B12 as well.
  18. Steve, it sounds like you need to find yourself better work! This is ridiculous, and is ruining your health.
  19. Scott, thanks for checking in and explaining why old posts can't be edited any more. I am glad you set it this way, because it is a major pain when people are so inconsiderate to delete all their posts when they leave. But as with others here, I've had the same problem with not being able to edit a post immediately after posting. And no, I NEVER log out...
  20. I am afraid one wheat wafer a day may or may not be enough. Normally they say you need to eat four slices of bread a day to ensure a positive biopsy. On the other hand, if the damage was severe enough, in some people it is still not gone after six months to a year and would still result in a positive biopsy (assuming they biopsy a damaged spot).
  21. I am now on day 22, and I am still getting as many small white worms every day as I have been from the beginning. Plus yesterday I got several large pieces that looked like they came from something pretty big (maybe a tapeworm?). I am feeling sick and dreadfully tired these days. I hope it improves after I am done with the cleanse. Mind you, with that...
  22. Looking at your blood work results, and that your DH cleared up is plenty of proof that you have celiac disease. Unfortunately, being on the gluten-free diet already may give you a false negative biopsy result. Still, you need to be gluten-free anyway, and I hope you won't go back to eating gluten if your biopsy is negative.
  23. Yes, the vomiting and the 'growing pains' can both be from the gluten exposure. Symptoms after being glutened can persist for up to two weeks. And yes, symptoms can definitely change and also be worse from accidental gluten exposure after being gluten-free for a while.
  24. Well, in order to stop those oil barons from holding us all hostage, it is a great idea to use technology that lets us power our car with something other than gasoline. While we here have to pay for the water we use as well, it obviously isn't nearly as expensive as gas.
  25. Well, if that is the case, it may in principle not be a bad idea. I just feel that if I find a spelling mistake when reading one of my older posts and can't fix it, it makes me feel anxious and inadequate (I am a perfectionist). Good thing I usually don't go back and read old posts!
