  1. It is recommended to wait for a year after starting the gluten-free diet before getting pregnant. You did that..... your celiac disease is under control, I don't see why you shouldn't have a perfectly normal pregnancy resulting in a healthy baby.
  2. I will be 55 tomorrow, so not quite 'old enough'. But there are a few people over 60 here. I am sure they'll reply soon, but it being a Sunday, the board is predictably slow today. Mind you, I don't know if I will ever be well. I didn't figure out I have celiac disease until I was 52, and I believe I have permanent damage, as well as having developed other...
  3. Alison, I was breastfed only until about three months old. Of course, I breastfed my son. In fact, he refused any solids until eight months old, at which point he decided he liked those foods so well that he didn't want to nurse any more (foolish boy). I forced him for a while, but eventually gave up, as it wasn't enjoyable for either one of us. I do believe...
  4. The problem is, that here in North America the medical establishment will only recognize two official celiac disease genes, while in Europe and Asia they recognize seven I believe. Meaning that in other countries you would likely have been diagnosed earlier, and you wouldn't even ask your question! Yes, there are people here who have been diagnosed with...
  5. It sounds like symptoms of autism. But even though true autism is genetic, gluten and dairy can bring on the same symptoms. That is why quite a few autistic kids will recover from autism when put on a gluten-free/casein free diet (and if they don't, they are often much better......... as in high functioning autism instead of low functioning). The gliadin...
  6. Your doctor is wrong in saying that you don't get severe abdominal pain with celiac disease. I sure did, and it took over a month of being gluten-free for it to finally go away. I found that a homeopathic remedy called sepia helped a lot with the pain.
  7. Wow, I read through the symptoms list, and I had a ton of those as a kid and teenager! I had bronchitis at least once a year, I had pneumonia several times, I used to get boils frequently, much of the time swollen lymph glands, I had shingles a few years ago. The only reason I rarely get sick is, that I stay away from people because I rarely go out, I believe...
  8. Hooray for the baby having grown, and for having a reasonable doctor! As for ever re-introducing gluten to see what will happen, my personal opinion is, that it is a terrible idea. Until the family moved in December, I was babysitting three little boys three times a week. The oldest had a severe dairy allergy as a baby and young toddler. According...
  9. 1. Thank goodness I can still eat....sesame snaps 2. Thank goodness I can still eat....meat and fish 3. My favorite gluten-free specialty product is...buckwheat bread (from Little Streams Bakery)
  10. I've had all kinds of symptoms since I was about three years old. I used to have 'growing pains' so bad that I couldn't even tolerate a blanket on my legs at night because of the unbearable pain. It all started when I got tonsillitis at the age of three. In those days they still believed that tonsils were not needed, and they took them out routinely if...
  11. A neurologist? To do what? That is totally crazy! Good for you for finding a new doctor for your little one. The old one deserved to be fired!
  12. Today I went to my local bulk food store (locally owned and not affiliated with any other stores) because I ran out of light buckwheat flour. Because I don't eat anything with flours/carbs very often, I don't go there more than once every two months or so. I was in for a surprise. Last time I went, they had one freezer with gluten-free foods, and the bins...
  13. Hi Lynn, just a little tip on changing size, colour etc. here. In this forum you can't just click on those things and then write, because your text should be in between those brackets, not after them. Here you have to highlight your text AFTER you type it, and then click on those special features and apply them. Or you click on it, and then insert your...
  14. Carbohydrates and sugars are responsible for weight gain, while fat HELPS you lose weight (if you stay away from fats like hydrogenated fats and margarine, that is). Your body needs saturated fat, yes, especially your heart and brain. It has been shown over and over again that a low fat diet causes heart disease and cancer. Eat more fats like lard, eggs...
  15. Who knows what exactly is in those dyes. It is always risky to get a tattoo, as the dye won't just stay in the spot they put it, but goes into your blood stream. The proof is, that when you get a blue tattoo for instance, the glands which are next to it (if you have it on your arm, it would be the glands in your armpit) will turn blue as well. Personally...
  16. I do understand exactly what you are saying. But I am asking you anyway: Have you been officially diagnosed with DH? Because if you have, you HAVE been tested for celiac disease, and officially diagnosed with it. And if your doctors don't realize that they are even more ignorant than you think they are. If your medical record already states that you have...
  17. Ellen, you are saying you have DH. Were you officially diagnosed with that? If you were, than you have been diagnosed officially with celiac disease, even if your doctors didn't understand that. And I suspect neither do a lot of insurance companies. The ONLY cause of DH is celiac disease (even though not all people with celiac disease get DH), and the...
  18. The dairy industry has brainwashed the public to believe we get calcium from dairy, and that we in general, but especially children and lactating mothers, won't get enough calcium without drinking a lot of milk. The reality is, that because of pasteurization, which kills the enzyme that allows us to use the calcium from dairy, it leaches calcium OUT of...
  19. My doctor actually ordered the celiac disease blood panel for my youngest daughter two and a half years ago. Government insurance won't pay for it (the idiots), so we had to pay $130.00 for it. They called and told me it was negative. I asked for number, and they said they didn't have them. My daughter refused to try the gluten-free diet, because she said...
  20. I used to get horrible, terrifying nightmares as well. I remember a time a few years back when I'd get ten nightmares a night and was afraid to go to sleep. In a lot of them I got attacked by demons, or somebody killing me and waking just as I was going to die. It was awful. Now I only get nightmares when I have been glutened. My youngest daughter ...
  21. I think there is the problem. Tapioca flour is really fine starch, and potato flour makes things heavy. You can substitute arrowroot flour or corn starch for the tapioca flour, but not potato flour (while potato starch may have been alright, but I am not sure). This is my opinion, somebody else may see it differently.
  22. I am glad it all went well. It has been shown in many studies that Crohn's responds well to a gluten-free diet. So, even if officially you have Crohn's rather than celiac disease, the gluten-free diet is recommended by knowledgeable doctors. But often people who have Crohn's also have celiac disease, and the Crohn's was caused by celiac disease to begin with...
  23. There are some people here who had negative blood work and a positive biopsy. But it is true that if you started the gluten-free diet prior to the blood test, then you are even more likely to get a false negative. If you still think you have celiac disease (which is a definite possibility) you could have an endoscopy with biopsy. If that comes back negative...
  24. Just the regular adult parasite cleanse for $29.95 (I think that was the price). It is definitely gluten-free, and only has herbs in it. Well, after today I have two days left. I am feeling very tired and it is really starting to hurt my stomach as well as the rest of my body. But I WILL finish it. For my next round in September I will ask them...
  25. Congratulations! You are doing awesome. And your son is a trooper, you can be proud of him. No cheating and being so good about the diet. And what a fabulous mother you have! You ought to be proud of all of you and have a right to boast a little!
