  1. My answer to that would be, that most doctors are completely ignorant about celiac disease, and also don't have a clue about nutrition. You may have hypothyroidism and/or adrenal fatigue, or worse, adrenal insufficiency (Addison's disease). Which can both be triggered by celiac disease, by the way. Ask to be tested for thyroid problems. In fact, ask...
  2. Just do your utmost to be gluten-free, and within five years of being on the gluten-free diet your chances of cancer will have gone back down to be the same as everybody else's. I didn't figure it out until I was 52, and my grandmother died of stomach cancer in her forties, and my mother of liver cancer when she was 66. I know that they both had celiac...
  3. People in general seem to react less to white flour, because it is lower in gluten. But just because you don't have an OBVIOUS reaction to it doesn't mean that it doesn't cause you damage.
  4. In reality it is lectins, of which gliadin is one (and the worst of the bunch).
  5. Your endoscopy results in combination with a positive response to the diet is diagnostic for celiac disease. Stop stressing yourself out over ignorant doctors and keep getting well on the gluten-free diet!
  6. No, I mean saturated fat. It is NOT bad for you in the least! It has been proven many times over that it is extremely unhealthy to only eat vegetable fats, you set yourself up for cancer if that is all you get. Every cell in our bodies needs saturated fat to function. It has been shown that diets low in saturated fat will cause colon cancer (in men primarily...
  7. In your situation with being pregnant, you did the only reasonable thing. If you would have kept eating gluten you could have lost the baby. You and your daughter are feeling well now, and that awful rash has gone away. Does your doctor (or her pediatrician, if she has one) know about the rash on her back? It might be enough for him to see that now her...
  8. Caramel colour could have contained gluten. But Splenda is no safer than Nutra Sweet and should be avoided. Why don't you just use plain old 100% maple syrup? It contains one ingredient, and you can be absolutely sure it is safe.
  9. Celiac disease isn't immediately fatal, but it is in the long run. It is possible to die from starvation because of malabsorption. Those are the people who get skinnier and skinnier and look like they are anorexic when they are not. But in the end EVERY person with undiagnosed celiac disease who continues to eat gluten will develop cancer somewhere in...
  10. Here is my advice: Make what you eat count, meaning no junk (or just as an occasional treat). Also, eat, eat, eat. My oldest daughter has twins (they will be six in two weeks, a boy and a girl). Her midwife told her when she was pregnant, that most of the time twins come early and weigh only around five pounds because their mothers don't eat enough, and so...
  11. How you feel now that you have upped your gluten is VERY telling! Before going gluten-free I almost always had swollen glands, a sore throat, hoarse voice and I would get mouth ulcers, too (besides the diarrhea, skin problems and too many other issues to mention here). It sounds like you are definitely reacting to the gluten. As somebody already said,...
  12. With his sister having celiac disease being too skinny should prompt you to have him tested also. Plus it is recommended that the whole family and all close relatives get tested anyway after somebody tests positive for celiac disease. Being too skinny was the major symptom for two of my grandchildren, too. My daughter didn't have them tested, but put them...
  13. My grandmother died of stomach cancer, my mother of liver cancer, and my dad died of liver cancer also. Both my parents had all the symptoms of celiac disease, and so do most of my siblings (even though most of them deny it). Undiagnosed celiac disease can cause cancer in any part of the digestive system. And it could also, indirectly cause skin cancer...
  14. Do you realize that unexplained weight gain is also a symptom of celiac disease, not just weight loss? My naturopathic doctor told me that malnutrition can cause weight gain, and of course, celiac disease causes malnutrition. You will shorten your life span with gastric bypass surgery. And it will inevitably cause MORE malnutrition! It would be wise...
  15. Either standard or linear is what you want, right now you have 'outline'.
  16. I am sorry that your daughter has those problems, and I will pray. About the vitamin K: Two weeks on vitamin K supplements may not be enough to see a measurable difference. Here is a link to find out which foods contain the most vitamin K Open Original Shared Link I hope that she doesn't have Bernard-Soulier syndrome. I read that only a lab specializing...
  17. There are a number of foods very high in lectins. Those include all grains (which includes rice and corn), eggs, all dairy, legumes (including soy) and nightshade foods (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and tobacco). Nightshade foods are also high in oxalates, which will cause or aggravate arthritis in many people. I was investigated for arthritis...
  18. My big problem is, that I am in very poor health. The gluten-free diet (and cutting out a lot of other foods, too) has helped in getting rid of fibromyalgia pain and my diarrhea and terrible gas. But other than that my health is still getting worse. I've had a hair analysis done ten days ago (don't have results yet). That is the first step in finding...
  19. I just hope that the scope is scheduled to be done really soon, as otherwise your daughter will get sicker as she has to eat gluten until the scope can be done. If you have to wait more than two weeks, personally, I would skip the scope and put the child on the diet. A positive blood test and a mother who has celiac disease (and therefore the same genes...
  20. In reality, a positive blood test and positive diet response are diagnostic, and more and more doctors would give him an official celiac disease diagnosis right there. You are right in not wanting him to eat the food that makes him ill again. If he was my kid, I'd skip the scope. But you will have to make that decision. If your doctor will diagnose...
  21. It sounds like you have DH (dermatitis herpetiformis), which is only caused by celiac disease. If you still have a lot of active blisters, you could have your skin biopsied (right BESIDE an active, blistery outbreak, never through it). If you are diagnosed with DH, you have your celiac disease diagnosis, without bothering with the regular tests for celiac...
  22. I still have five amalgam fillings, and am in the process of finding myself a holistic dentist to get them out. My husband keeps getting advice from people who say it is nonsense that the mercury in amalgam is dangerous. He just told me a couple of minutes ago (with a gleam in his eyes that showed he thinks I am full of it when talking about amalgams)...
  23. Unfortunately, those results are useless in determining if your sister has celiac disease or not. All it shows is, that she is gluten-free and is therefore not reacting to gluten. Your sister may well have celiac disease as well, and you wouldn't know unless you feed her gluten. And even if she reacts, it might take years for her villi to be destroyed...
  24. I also want to say that maybe you could adopt a couple of kids who wouldn't have parents otherwise.
  25. Yes, I also get bladder problems when eating gluten, but also when I eat foods high in salicylates. I will get the burning sensations and having to go constantly. Why don't you try going gluten-free for a week to see if your bladder problems get any better? If they do, you will have to go back to eating gluten if you want to get official celiac disease...
