ARCHIVED Chronic Stomach Pain--while Gluten-free
Ursa Major replied to healthynewman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Kurt, you may have LOW stomach acid, which obviously acid blockers would make only worse. Try eating more protein and fat for a while, along with very low carbohydrate intake. Your problem may be that you eat too many high-carb gluten-free replacement foods. They will cause me to have acid reflux as well. Open Original Shared Link -
Boy, this kid is driving me out of my mind. My neighbour's little girl (four years old) is the most awful, obnoxious kid you'd ever want to meet. She is a fat little thing (grossly overweight) and has the most evil temperament I've ever seen in a small child. This girl screams and cries and yells and bosses people around all day long! Every time I open...

ARCHIVED Low Vitamin D
Ursa Major replied to Worriedtodeath's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
But Dr. Mercola also says that you can't make up for not getting enough sun in the winter by just being out in the sun in the summer and should take cod liver oil in the winter to make up for it! And in order to get enough vitamin D in the summer, according to him again, you need to get full body sunlight (meaning no clothes) for twenty minutes a day during... -
ARCHIVED Are Sprouted Breads Ok?
Ursa Major replied to Froger850's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's right, those breads have gluten. And in case somebody else tells you that Spelt and Kamut are not wheat and are safe (as a health food store employee once told me), that wouldn't be true, either. -
Anna, this is hilarious, I laughed so hard! I am glad you have something to make together that turns out to be good to eat as well.

ARCHIVED Update On My Little Granddaughter Zoey
Ursa Major posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
For anybody who wants to know how that baby is doing now, here is an update. For people reading this who didn't read my original post, Zoey, who is 24 months old, broke her left femur a week after her second birthday, and is in a cast from her ankle to almost her nipples, so can only lie straight. She hardly ever has any pain now, so my daughter... -

ARCHIVED Ravenous At Night, Any Suggestions?
Ursa Major replied to Sunrise85's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You are starving yourself, no wonder you can't sleep and are ravenous at night! That is NOT the healthy way to lose weight. You need about 2000 kalories a day, especially if you work out. You aren't getting enough fat and protein, which are the two foods that fill you up, and keep you satisfied. And your body absolutely needs them to function. And no... -
Whether you have officially celiac disease or are gluten intolerant is really irrelevant, because the treatment is the same, a gluten-free diet. If you really want to do the blood work, you will need to go back to eating a ton of gluten (the equivalent of at least four slices of wheat bread a day) for at least three to six months to even have a slight...

ARCHIVED Anemia And Other Deficiencies
Ursa Major replied to ShayFL's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You know what? I had NONE of those side effects (and things easily effect me), other than a sore butt from twice weekly injections for over a year (which barely kept my levels up at 20, but that was because of severe bleeding every ten days)! They have to give you those warnings, but I have never heard of anybody actually having those problems. Plus, they... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Wondering How To Cope With Events?
Ursa Major replied to torontosue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Last year for my second-youngest daughter's wedding, I asked my daughter to get me in touch with the caterer. I then communicated with the caterer, who actually made sure the WHOLE MEAL was safe for me! Which is easy to do with the main course, obviously. I brought my own dessert for me, my oldest daughter and her five children (as well as my own salad... -
ARCHIVED Sleeping All The Time...
Ursa Major replied to Haleyuns's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, and welcome to this board. You might be getting glutened. Sometimes companies change the ingredients in their products without notice, so read all the labels on the products you eat. If you can't find gluten anywhere (including your vitamins, any medications and personal hygiene products), then I would suggest having your thyroid and adrenal glands... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
Ursa Major replied to MLB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Scotty, now I finally understand why you are doing the gluten challenge. What a predicament to be in! You are right, it would have been best if you would have done the biopsy after all before going gluten-free. Are you able to find a better endocrinologist? A gluten intolerance could cause your hormones to be low. Feeling better was probably a combination... -
ARCHIVED Anemia And Other Deficiencies
Ursa Major replied to ShayFL's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You know that you may only need ONE SINGLE injection to bring the ferritin up to an acceptable level? It will go into your butt, so not too bad. I think having one single little poke shouldn't be too bad, right? If then you can manage to keep it there, and slowly bring it up higher from where it will go (probably around 25 or 30), you would likely feel... -
ARCHIVED I Am In Agonizing Pain
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks, everybody. As you can see, I am still alive. Well, apparently that tooth wasn't an easy one to get out, and I had a full anesthetic. The antibiotics had started working by the time I had the tooth pulled, which is good. When I woke up, the nurse wanted to change the gauze pad, and found that I didn't need another one, as the bleeding... -
ARCHIVED Lost In Label Reading
Ursa Major replied to Chrissyb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Chrissy, eating all that processed food isn't good for you anyway. You would do much better mostly cooking your own food from scratch. That way you know exactly what is in your food, and that it is safe! As for the greasy pizza and chocolate cake, what is stopping you? You can make your own gluten-free pizza, and fabulous gluten-free chocolate cakes... -
Actually, there is no such a thing as being 'a little bit' gluten intolerant. Even if your Enterolab result would have been a 10 or 11, it would have been valid. Whether it is 21 or 210 doesn't matter, you are gluten intolerant and should be 100% strict about being gluten-free. What follow up testing are you talking about? If you are going to a regular...

ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
Ursa Major replied to MLB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good for you for believing your Enterolab results and your naturopathic doctor. Who cares if 'regular' MDs believe in Enterolab! They also believe that we have just IBS, or are depressed or anxious, rather than taking us seriously. I am pretty much done with regular doctors as well. For 49 years I've had celiac disease symptoms, and apparently, it was... -
ARCHIVED Anemia And Other Deficiencies
Ursa Major replied to ShayFL's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would definitely not worry if taking iron would cause cancer. Having low ferritin is linked to many problems, I would be much more worried about that. I think you would do well to ask your doctor for iron injections until your iron is up to normal levels. And then take iron supplements to keep it there (a diet rich in meats will also be beneficial, as... -
Why don't you get tested by Enterolab? If you can show him the printout that says you are gluten intolerant, and it says that a doctor (Dr. Fine) has done the testing, he won't know that many doctors won't acknowledge that diagnosis (out of ignorance, in my opinion, not because it isn't valid). It doesn't matter if you have an official diagnosis. You KNOW...

Your boss is insensitive and won't take hints. You really need to tell him the truth. Tell him you have celiac disease, that you are gluten intolerant, and that eating the food that he thinks will fatten you up will damage your intestines and make you LOSE weight instead. Give it to him in writing if you have to. Write down for him ALL the foods you cannot...

ARCHIVED 13 Months Old, To Biopsy Or Not?
Ursa Major replied to Chelsea-A's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just because no study on vaccines (which are usually funded by the very people who benefit financially from them) has officially found that they cause autoimmune diseases doesn't mean that they don't. The fact is that NO LONG TERM STUDIES have ever been done on vaccines! I wonder if people getting things like Alzheimer's, Lou Gehrig's Disease, Multiple... -
ARCHIVED Please Help Pregnant And Self Diagnosed
Ursa Major replied to onelildream's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay, I didn't realize that you have been gluten-free for a month. In that case the blood test will be useless. And to be scoped after you have the baby would mean going back on gluten for three to six months if you even want to have a chance of it being accurate. Don't do it, it's insanity. The only thing you still can do if you want to have something... -

ARCHIVED I Am In Agonizing Pain
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Well, that tooth used to have a mercury filling. But because part of the tooth broke off about two years ago, it was replaced by a white filling then. I am taking it one step at a time. I had seen my naturopathic doctor two days ago (before my tooth suddenly decided to go berserk) and decided to do a hair analysis. And he was going to help me find a holistic...
