ARCHIVED 4 Year Old Tested Negative, Now What?
Ursa Major replied to kim26's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You know, testing in children under six is notoriously unreliable. A negative test can not rule out celiac disease. He definitely has typical celiac disease symptoms. You can test him with Open Original Shared Link if you feel you need a 'real' diagnosis. And he won't have to be eating gluten for that test, it is still accurate up to a year of going gluten... -
If there is severe damage and the doctor actually looks at it, sometimes they can tell by just looking. No, it doesn't. Some people have no symptoms at all, or just be anemic, yet have completely flattened villi. Yes, it can take a while for some symptoms to disappear. I still got severe stomach cramps for about a month after going gluten...

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Tried Humaworm?
Ursa Major replied to Nancym's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Parasites can cause weight loss OR weight gain. I am hoping to lose weight. The people that said they gained weight needed to, they were underweight. Strangely, I've had the last bout of D before I took my first dose of humaworm, and nothing since. Wouldn't it be weird if this cleanse fixed the D after five weeks of it. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Almost 2 Days Now
Ursa Major replied to Aleshia's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you been tested for nutritional deficiencies? It sounds like you may need a good vitamin B complex, lack of B vitamins can cause those symptoms, especially B12 and B6. You might also want to try seeing a good chiropractor. I've had numbness in parts of my body before (especially my hands, it would start in the fingertips and slowly move up my hands... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Tried Humaworm?
Ursa Major replied to Nancym's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, I took my first dose this morning. Knowing how sensitive I am to everything, I ate something early in the morning, and after three hours took the humaworm. I didn't get heartburn. In fact, at this point I don't feel any different. I am sure it will come, though. -
ARCHIVED Controlling Cc In My Kitchen
Ursa Major replied to dbmamaz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Are you able to tolerate buckwheat flour? I can't stand the dark buckwheat flour, but I sometimes bake with the light buckwheat flour. I bet you could make delicious muffins using only cornstarch, millet and light buckwheat flour (which is not a grain). But even just with cornstarch and millet I bet you could bake pretty good muffins. And if you try and... -

ARCHIVED Controlling Cc In My Kitchen
Ursa Major replied to dbmamaz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Kimmy, yes, you are coming across callous and insensitive. Not everybody is as perfect as you, I guess. But that doesn't mean the rest of us who are human are stupid. And not being a clean freak has never killed anybody. In fact, it has been proven over and over that houses were everything is always spotless and constantly sanitized with antimicrobial... -
ARCHIVED Controlling Cc In My Kitchen
Ursa Major replied to dbmamaz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You might seriously need to ban gluten from your house. Your family may have to eat their gluten elsewhere. It is your health that is at stake, not just a 'diet whim' of yours. Explain to your husband how you feel after being glutened, and that you are not able to function in that state. Ask him what is more important, his craving for bread, or your health... -
ARCHIVED Could It Be Diary After All
Ursa Major replied to ksymonds84's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Just like gluten, dairy intolerance can have delayed reactions. In fact, in some cases, you don't get a reaction until a couple of days later. So, it absolutely could be the dairy that is causing the problem. It would be worth it to completely eliminate dairy from your diet to see if it helps. And give it a good two weeks at least. -
The sore throat makes me think another intolerance/allergy. It could have been the rice flour, tapioca or anything else in the cookies.
-
At your age, it could take up to two years for the villi to completely heal. You may have some permanent damage, as I am sure I do. Two weeks isn't very long. I am sure the gurgling will stop soon.

ARCHIVED Additional Issues With Celiac Disease
Ursa Major replied to lhceliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
How long have you been gluten-free? I was unable to take anything, including vitamins, for the first six months, until my intestines healed enough to tolerate them again. -
You may be intolerant to lectin foods. Those include all grains (including rice), nightshade vegetables, all dairy, legumes, eggs. Most of the time people won't be intolerant to all of those, but I am. Here is a link to check it out: Open Original Shared Link

I found that at first I couldn't tolerate anything raw at all. I had to cook all vegetables and fruits to be well cooked, or they would give me terrible stomach cramps (which obviously means no salad either). It took six months on the gluten-free diet before I could even eat a salad. Also, the replacement gluten-free foods are very hard to digest. It is...

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Tried Humaworm?
Ursa Major replied to Nancym's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You should definitely NOT continue taking charcoal while taking the humaworm! It will absorb and get rid of some of those things and won't be as effective. Besides, you shouldn't take charcoal over extended periods of time, as it absorbs needed nutrients. But you should keep taking your B12. Anyway, my humaworm arrived today! I have one more antibiotic... -
ARCHIVED Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein Question
Ursa Major replied to MrsGlutenFree's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The conventional 'wisdom' (not) is, that wheat germ oil and wheat starch don't contain any gluten. But the proof is in the pudding, as they say. MANY people with celiac disease react badly to both wheat germ oil and wheat starch. I react to shampoo or soap containing wheat germ oil by severe itching, hives, and on my scalp, psoriasis. Since you and... -

ARCHIVED I Think My Dd Has Adhd
Ursa Major replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Is your daughter still having dairy and/or soy? Dairy especially can cause all kinds of mental problems. Food dyes and sugar can also cause ADHD. When my youngest daughter eats ice cream, she bounces off the walls for hours, totally out of control. She'll be laughing for no reason (and can't stop) and doesn't understand a word that is being said. My... -
ARCHIVED Help! Anything For Pain?
Ursa Major replied to strawberrygm's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Why is your daughter having a second round of tests? It sounds to me that the first ones were conclusive enough, plus she has obvious symptoms. Tell your doctor that your daughter is too ill to attend school, and you will have to start the gluten-free diet in order for her to get better. Pain killers are hard on the stomach and will make the pain worse... -
ARCHIVED Can Doctor See celiac disease Evidence During Egd?

ARCHIVED Pregnancy Symptoms Feel Like Being Glutened!
Ursa Major replied to Amelia01's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Are you still eating dairy and soy? One or the other (or both) could be the culprit. Are you eating anything now that you didn't before? Are you positive your pre-natal vitamins are gluten-free? -
ARCHIVED Abdo/side Pain
Ursa Major replied to nikky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That is crazy! If somebody has chronic appendicitis, the appendix should be removed. A ruptured appendix is life-threatening and no doctor should make you take that risk. I am glad you have a doctor's appointment. Hopefully the doctor will figure out what is wrong. -
Here is a link to an article that explains why carbo-loading is a bad idea. Open Original Shared Link The first page give the conventional 'wisdom'. The second page gives what really is the truth, and the third page substantiates it.

ARCHIVED Ssri's Are Antifungal And Kill Candida..
Ursa Major replied to CuriousOne's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Okay, a small misunderstanding. I get it now. It would be hard to get the sleep you need and want with roommates! Still, I advise against Paxil. You might want to try 5HTP instead. Eat garlic, cut out carbs and sugars. Get as much sunshine as you can, and if you can't get it every day, take cod liver oil to get enough vitamin D. And if you think you...
