ARCHIVED Could My Physician Have Been Mistaken?
Ursa Major replied to Woolygimp's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
People have had their DH 'diagnosed' being all kinds of different skin problems. Of course the doctor could have been wrong, lots of dermatologists know next to nothing about DH (just like a lot of GI docs know precious little about celiac disease). I believe that you have DH, period. And the only thing that keeps it in check is the gluten-free diet. -
ARCHIVED Hair Analysis Results
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I just talked to one of my daughters, she called me for some information. Anyway, she and my husband are convinced that all my problems are psychological, and I am just lazy. So, I told her about these results, and that every one of those things (high mercury and uranium and low minerals) cause fatigue as one symptom. And that is why I have no energy to do... -
ARCHIVED Hair Analysis Results
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, my arsenic is barely below the limit. The range is <0.060, and mine is 0.059. My doctor is concerned with that. I had my testing done through my naturopathic doctor, and Anamol laboratories, which is analyzed by Doctor's Data Inc. The uranium and mercury aren't sky high either. Uranium is 0.067 (ref. < 0.060), and the mercury is 1.3 (ref... -
ARCHIVED Hair Analysis Results
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks, Mariela. I am also thinking that maybe I should have an endoscopy with a biopsy after all (without eating gluten beforehand) to see what is happening with my villi. With all that malabsorption happening, maybe they are damaged beyond repair? I really hope I don't have refractory sprue. But I better make sure I don't. Sigh, my problems seem neverending... -
ARCHIVED Hair Analysis Results
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No, I've never in my life lived even close to being close to a nuclear anything! The next nuclear power plants are about 200 km south-east from here. Why I have elevated levels of uranium is a total mystery to me. -
ARCHIVED Enlarged Spleen In Celiac Disease?
Ursa Major replied to sharonLmiracle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know if celiac disease can cause an enlarged spleen. But a lot of her symptoms could be caused by celiac disease, especially the gastrointestinal problems, the GERD, anemia and the awful teeth. Others here have also inflammation of the corners of the mouth, so it could be a celiac disease symptom. You are right in asking for celiac disease tests... -
Well, it took long enough, but today I got the results of my hair analysis. It is bad news pretty much all around. I have tested high for mercury (I expected that), uranium and arsenic! I don't have a clue why I am high in uranium and arsenic. For the mercury, I will have my amalgam fillings removed, and you can do chelation for mercury and arsenic...

Elisabet, I tried answering your PM, but your inbox is full! Please send me an e-mail from your yahoo address, or clear out your inbox, so I can send you my message! If you would like to call me, please remember to dial a '1' before the area code and number. I just realized that you NEVER get a busy signal when calling me (as you said you did), because...

Hi and welcome to our forums! Yes, it will get easier. But it takes months before it will become second nature. I remember at first I would, without thinking, grab a cookie and take a bite, before I would, to my horror, realize what I was doing. Some things are so automatic, and it takes time to unlearn certain habits and to learn new ones. You absolutely...

ARCHIVED Is This Normal?
Ursa Major replied to ljb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Cutting out all dairy means to eliminate everything made from milk. Milk, yogourt, cheese, ice cream, whipping cream, whey, cream cheese, cottage cheese.......... every single thing that contains dairy. And an awful lot of processed foods contain either gluten or dairy (or both), so you need to read labels even more carefully. -
ARCHIVED Confirmed - Blunting Normal
Ursa Major replied to CamiJ's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Acid reflux will not cause blunted villi. It sounds like the pathologist the samples were sent to is a moron as well. But if you have acid reflux, that could be caused by celiac disease as well. Since you have already eliminated gluten and dairy, you might want to add soy to those two. Many people don't feel better until they eliminate all three. Both... -
ARCHIVED Asymptomatic, Recently Diagnosed
Ursa Major replied to Hummingbird4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, and welcome here! You aren't the first person diagnosed who was asymptomatic. But really, you WERE having symptoms, that is why you got tested in the first place! Yes, your teens should definitely get tested as well, as it is genetic. That aunt likely has celiac disease as well, and should NOT eat wheat at all, not even sometimes. As with you, her... -
Yes, gluten can cause rashes other than DH in people who are gluten intolerant. I used to get psoriasis from gluten, and eczema on my hands and legs from gluten. But I also get large pus-filled pimples on my face from peppers, and my daughter and several of my grandchildren get horrible eczema from dairy. Any food you are intolerant to can cause skin...

ARCHIVED Labs And Testing
Ursa Major replied to chaddwell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
All of your symptoms could be caused by celiac disease. Low iron and vitamin D are typical deficiencies with celiac disease. You have the gene, and you once had a positive test. Your two week trial with the gluten-free diet was not enough to really see if it makes a difference, some people take six months before they notice a real improvement! You gave... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy And Genetic Results
Ursa Major replied to suzyq63's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
She has the genes, and she has symptoms. The inflammation is caused by something, obviously. Villous atrophy starts out with inflammation. Plus, of course, there may be villi damage after all, and the biopsies were taken from spots that weren't too bad yet. The fact is, that a positive biopsy confirms celiac disease, but a negative one can never rule it out... -
Good thing your biopsies have been sent to a pathologist, who hopefully will know what he is talking about. Clearly, your GI does not. There is no such a thing as 'normal' blunted villi. If they are blunted, something is causing that, and it is NEVER good news. And if there are blunted villi, the intestine is NOT healthy. What a moron! My advice is, to...

ARCHIVED Gross Motor Delays?
Ursa Major replied to momof2sn's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Lefties are handicapped in this right-handed world. I have three left-handed brothers, and my son is left handed (his four sisters are all right handed). Everything is made to function right-handed, including the way we write! One of my brothers is the only lefty I have EVER seen with great hand-writing. And he writes in a very strange way, that allows... -
ARCHIVED Final Update On My Granddaughter Zoey
Ursa Major posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thank you everybody who has been praying for Zoey, and thinking of her. On Tuesday she had a horrible poop that went right into her cast, and they couldn't get it out. So, my daughter called the hospital and asked if the cast could come off a day earlier, and if she could get her x-ray on Wednesday as well (it is a one hour drive to the hospital, and... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Opinions
Ursa Major replied to mstroud's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The celiac disease tests are notoriously unreliable in children under six. Meaning, that the negative results in your little guy only mean that he isn't near death (yet). Eventually he may get really ill, and will test positive. One of my grandsons used to be extremely emotional. If he hurt himself, or somebody hurt his feelings, he would cry for hours... -
ARCHIVED Gross Motor Delays?
Ursa Major replied to momof2sn's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What exactly are you saying? How old was your daughter when reaching major milestones? My second-youngest daughter didn't sit unassisted until she was ten months old, she never crawled (she scooted on her bum) and didn't walk until she was 20 months old. My son (he is the middle one and has two older and two younger sisters) walked at 18 months. The oldest... -
ARCHIVED Healthy Fats
Ursa Major replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not so. Both turn toxic when heated to high temperatures. One of the healthiest fats on this earth is coconut oil. It is a saturated fat (and yes, we absolutely NEED saturated fat to be healthy) which is extremely heat stable and is as a result fabulous for cooking and baking. Just make sure you get cold pressed, non-hydrogenated coconut oil. For salads... -
If you have a gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, you should not eat ezekiel bread, it has gluten.

ARCHIVED Celiac Panel
Ursa Major replied to MyMississippi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The answer is no, if you have been gluten-free for two years, and have truly not had anything with gluten all that time, you can absolutely NOT get a positive blood panel for celiac disease, even if that is what you have. Therefore, it is useless to go for the blood test. In order to get a positive, you would need to eat lots and lots of gluten products... -
ARCHIVED Doc Says More Protein...
Ursa Major replied to bakinghomesteader's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hummus is a spread made from chick peas. You eat it with chips, crackers, whatever you like it on. Well, deviled eggs are fine......... still eggs. Also, you can eat brown beans, chili...... whatever.
