ARCHIVED I Will Be Gone For A Few Days
Ursa Major posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I just thought I'd let you all know that I am going to Ottawa to visit my oldest daughter (who is turning 27 on Monday), her husband and five of my gorgeous grandchildren . I am leaving early tomorrow morning, and will be back on Tuesday evening. I don't know if I will get a chance to check in here while I am visiting. If not, I'll be trying to catch... -
ARCHIVED Am I A Kook?
Ursa Major replied to JerryK's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I voted 'all of the above'. When are you going to STOP challenging what you know is the truth? Good grief! Have a great (and safe) cruise! -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With Results, Where Do We Go From Here?
Ursa Major replied to Pennyb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Unfortunately, she could also be intolerant to all lectins (gluten is one of them). Rice and eggs produce symptoms almost identical to being glutened for me. I seem to be able to tolerate some yogurt finally, but no other dairy. Check out my lectin link in my signature for more information on lectins. It would be a bummer, but better than being sick all... -
ARCHIVED I Did Something Stupid....
Ursa Major replied to JerryK's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope you feel better soon! Anyway, you'll never forget that spelt is wheat, I'm sure. I went to a health-food store in Florida a year ago, and told the sales lady that I have celiac disease and wanted to buy some flour I could use. She told me that spelt was safe for celiacs! Fortunately, even though I wasn't sure then, I also wasn't convinced it was... -
ARCHIVED Peripheral Neuropathy
Ursa Major replied to rickops's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Also, looking at all the broken bones, it looks like your daughter may already have developed osteoporosis. It is not uncommon for even children suffering from celiac disease to have it. I suggest that when you do the testing, you get a bone density scan done as well. By the way, if you go on the gluten-free diet BEFORE you do the celiac disease testing... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have Hypoglycemia Along With Their Celiac?
Ursa Major replied to Run-4-Jesus's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Right now I am reading a book called "Adrenal Fatigue, The 21st Century Stress Syndrome" by James L. Wilson, N.D., D.C., Ph.D. He says that people with hypoglycemia usually have some degree of adrenal fatigue. I certainly have severe adrenal fatigue, as well as a low functioning thyroid and hypoglycemia. -
ARCHIVED Question About Eggs
Ursa Major replied to Gentleheart's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Larry, it has long been proven that eggs being bad for you in any way is a complete myth. Our bodies need cholesterol to function, without it we would die. If we don't get enough of it in our food, our bodies just produce more. In fact, it appears that people who eat lots of eggs have a lower chance of heart attacks. Egg yolks are the healthiest part... -
ARCHIVED Question About Eggs
Ursa Major replied to Gentleheart's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I tried that. But every time I baked with just the egg yolks, I would get just as sick as if I had been using the whole eggs. I gave up on that idea. I haven't tried boiling eggs and eating just the yolks, as that way you really should be able to avoid the whites. But I am not too hopeful that I can have the yolks. I have been too chicken to try. -
I know better than to suddenly stand up, because I am afraid I might pass out if I do that. I sit on the edge of my bed in the morning, and then stand up very slowly. And yes, I hate bright lights, and bright sunshine, my eyes are very light sensitive. And after reading why you are supposed to do the pupil test, I know why. Because my pupils don't stay contracted...

ARCHIVED How Can I Help Her?
Ursa Major replied to cdfiance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Ryan, and welcome to this board. You sound very caring and loving. You are already doing more than a lot of family members of celiacs do. You take Alex's celiac disease seriously, you do your best to help her be vigilant, you don't belittle her when she is feeling terrible. Other than maybe making some chamomile tea to help soothe her stomach, looking... -
Actually, he has been doing some reading on stopthethyroidmadness himself, we were talking about that. I have pointed him to other sites, too. And that is the big difference between most MDs and chiropractors and naturopathic doctors. MDs think they know everything and are not willing to spend their free time on learning more and staying on top of new...

Anal Bleeding?
Ursa Major replied to melrobsings's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Internal hemorrhoids near the anus could cause this bleeding. I sometimes get it, and it's from hemorrhoids, but mine are quite obviously on the outside as well. Since you had the scope and biopsies which showed no cancer I presume, I think hemorrhoids are likely to blame. Maybe it's time for you to go and get a second opinion, just to be safe. -
ARCHIVED So I Had Some Blood Work Done
Ursa Major replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If even the 'official' thyroid tests show borderline low thyroid, you really need to do something about them. And 'coming back in a few months' is NOT going to be any help at all! Make an appointment with your doctor to see you now. If this doctor doesn't understand about treatment for this, then find a doctor who does. Here is a good website to educate... -
ARCHIVED My Symptoms
Ursa Major replied to alenacat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, and welcome to this board. You sure sound like you are gluten intolerant. Celiac disease is just one manifestation of gluten intolerance/sensitivity. Neither one is worse than the other. It seems that really, you have already figured out that you have a problem with gluten. If you want to have official confirmation, I suggest you try celiac disease... -
ARCHIVED Please Help!
Ursa Major replied to festeris's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, and welcome to this board. Well, I had a similar experience. I've had fibromyalgia with awful joint and muscle pain from the time I was about five years old. I also had intermittent diarrhea and constipation all my life, as well as being as thin as a stick as a kid, unable to gain weight and being shorter than my younger brother. Then, during my... -
Rachel, I just want to say that my free T3, free T4 and TSH were tested. The free T3 was 3.9 pmol/L (normal being 2.6 - 5.7), the free T4 was 14, and normal was 10 - 20. My TSH was 3.76, and the lab claims that 0.35 - 5.00 mU/L is normal (when really, levels over 3 are too high, they are working with outdated data). I have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism...

ARCHIVED Not Really Sure...
Ursa Major replied to Christy-Latchford's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Christy, I am another celiac who was having unexplained weight gain. No matter what I tried or how little I ate, I'd gain. In fact, it seemed the less I ate, the more I gained. My naturopathic doctor told me that weight gain can be a symptom of malnourishment! Most doctors don't seem to know that. If you've had all the tests already (including biopsy,... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal
Ursa Major replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Okay, I can understand now what you were trying to do. It didn't work, because it is better when you say what you mean so people understand. As it was, it came through as irritating (at least to me, I never get hidden meanings). So, Jerry, are you still reading? If what people do in your thread bothers you, SPEAK UP and let them know! -
Wow, you explained all that very well. Very interesting. I am glad you finally found a doctor who will work with you and has prescribed enough Armour to help you get back to normal. I am still working on my doctor on that one. She is way too timid when it comes to those things. She claims my thyroid levels are all normal, and since there is no problem with...

ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal
Ursa Major replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I believe some of it is the same. Of course, a lot of carbs do contain gluten. But I know that sugar is very addictive, too. Really, it is possible to be addicted to all kinds of things. Allergists generally believe that whatever you're addicted to is probably also what you're intolerant to. So, for instance, alcoholics are really very intolerant... -
ARCHIVED Absorption Problems With Calcium And Vitamin D
Ursa Major replied to BeckyW's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, I didn't know there are two different ways of measuring vit. D. Because they did a lot of testing on me, they didn't have enough blood. So, I went and got more taken, and just called and got the levels I didn't have and added them to my sheet. Meaning, I don't really know how they measured it. If their 'normal' levels are 40 to 150, and they tend... -
ARCHIVED New Symptoms - Need Help Analyzing

I am taking 3 a day of AOR classic series ADRENAL, lyophilized active glandular 250 mg. They guarantee that it doesn't contain wheat, gluten, corn, nuts, dairy, soy, eggs, fish or shellfish. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal
Ursa Major replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For your coworkers to eat gluteny things at your desk is awfully inconsiderate. If I was you, I would make a sign for my desk, saying "Gluten-free area!" If it is in a spot that can't be ignored then nobody will have the excuse that they forgot. I am glad that at least one person in your office takes your celiac disease seriously. -
ARCHIVED New Symptoms - Need Help Analyzing
Ursa Major replied to Gentleheart's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am sorry you are feeling worse again. Unfortunately, it sounds like you may be dealing with intolerances other than the identified ones. Legumes (especially peanuts) make me burp like that, and rice (another grain) will give me almost identical symptoms to gluten. Check out the link in my signature on lectins, and see if they may all be a problem. ...
