  1. That is certainly an interesting thought. Like accelerating the purging of the system of the cause for DH.
  2. Sandy, when somebody out of the blue touches my back, or taps me on the shoulder it is more likely than not that they will get hit, or at least yelled at (a reflex reaction), because it comes through as an attack. If anybody attempts to touch me for any reason, I need to have warning. Many people will ask me if it is okay for them to hug me. And my pastor...
  3. I am glad you are figuring it out, Ian. It was such a relief to me when I did. I also don't like being touched. Only good friends are allowed to hug me, but long hugs are out. If somebody doesn't let go of me when I need to get away, I will completely panic and have an anxiety attack.
  4. Is it at all possible to shoot little movie clips (with a small digital camera) of him when he is having these meltdowns, without him knowing it? I've heard of other people doing that, and taking this evidence to the doctor's office. But if you are able to do that, don't allow him to be in the room when the professionals watch it. Just like you absolutely...
  5. Sandy, your explanation about making eye contact is right in principle. But I have learned to force myself to look into people's eyes when talking to them. Unfortunately, it often comes off as a stare, that makes people uncomfortable. Other times I start feeling very confused when looking into people's eyes, and feel flustered, because I am not sure 'how...
  6. I don't believe any posts ever get deleted, because you can search for specific issues, and old posts can still provide a lot of valuable information to people.
  7. You may be allergic to your panty shields/feminine pads. I was, and they were causing me to have the very same problems you are describing. Try switching to a different brand, and if that doesn't work, you may need to use fabric ones.
  8. I sometimes eat cream of buckwheat hot cereal by Bob's Red Mill. You can find it in places were they sell gluten-free food, or online (I buy it at my health food store, they just started a gluten-free section). I really like it, and your family might, too. Make sure you don't use Rice Dream, it is not gluten-free. Other rice milks are, though. Almond...
  9. Elizabeth, would it be possible to babysit the baby at your own home? You might need to get some equipment (like a playpen for naps, and either a highchair or a booster to strap onto a chair), but you would be where you can control your environment, and you wouldn't get glutened. You could get permission to only feed the baby gluten-free foods at your...
  10. Hi Canadianmama, and welcome to this board. I am appalled that they don't at least give you the information of whether your baby has celiac disease or not. You're right not to wait for a month before trying him on the gluten-free diet. You say you're still breastfeeding, which is great. But unless you will be gluten-free as well he will get gluten through...
  11. Amy, I am glad you figured it out, and that the little guy feels so much better. It must be hard to have two diabetic children! The celiac disease isn't as big a deal, since it's just about changing the diet.
  12. The only problem I have with Dr. Green is, that he still insists on a positive biopsy being the 'gold standard' for diagnosing celiac disease. There is plenty of evidence that only people with celiac disease in the end stages of the disease will have destroyed villi, which by that time are extremely ill and might have developed other diseases and intolerances...
  13. Yes, celiac disease will cause malabsorption of essential nutrients, which include vitamins and minerals. It is probably a good idea to take a gluten-free multivitamin (make sure the vitamin E is not derived from wheat germ). But if you have severe deficiencies, just a multi won't do the job. It is advisable for all new celiacs to be tested for deficiencies...
  14. Yes, of course I have seen that before, and it is funny. But it also shows that what is 'normal' is all a matter of perspective. If people with AS were in the majority, NTs would probably just be seen as those 'annoying social people, who won't ever leave you alone and get your work done'.
  15. Hi, and welcome to this board. Apparently the doctors have failed you (welcome to the club). You have taken your health into your own hands, good for you. It doesn't matter if a doctor would call it celiac disease or not, you're obviously intolerant to gluten, and so is your baby. The two of you need to stay off gluten for life. I am glad you're both feeling...
  16. It is short for 'neurologically typical', somehow the specialists came up with that. I don't necessarily like it, but it's easier to type.
  17. Janie, Pauliina has a point there. Another one is, that after being gluten-free for three years, one month of eating gluten will not result in a positive biopsy for celiac disease. It would have to be at least three to six months (for some people it would have to be more like a year) of eating at least four slices of bread a day to destroy your villi again...
  18. Hi everybody, We have at least two posters right now, who are reporting posts every time they mean to reply. If you click on 'report', only the moderators and the administrator get to see what you have to say. The report feature is for reporting abuse, inappropriate content, advertisements, spam, trolling etc. The reply button is on the right. This...
  19. Well, now that I am replying to your post, it is starting to become a thread. A thread is an original first post, and the answers you get to it. And you are not stupid, I am just so used to being in a forum that I forgot that newbies may not understand the terminology. You again replied to somebody's post with only a quote. If you click on reply right...

    ARCHIVED Naturopathic Doctor

My first appointment (one hour long) was $150.00. Now I pay $300.00 in advance, and get a discount, getting six half an hour appointments for that (normally a half an hour appointment would be $65.00 I think). Fortunately our private insurance will cover up to $300.00 a year per person in our household for naturopathic medicine. So, at least six appointments...
  21. Where did you post? I went and checked all your posts, and two of them were just quotes without any input from you, and this post is the third one. You must have done something wrong. If you want to start a new thread, do this. First, go to forum home. Choose the forum you want to ask the question in (which depends on your topic), and go there. Click on...
  22. My diagnosis validated me as the person I am. People have misunderstood me all my life. They have been trying to make me into somebody I am incapable of being. They have forced me to be social and to participate in things that totally overwhelm me, because that is what 'normal' people are 'supposed' to be doing. I was made to feel inferior, and for most...
  23. I always used to have swollen glands, on the back of my neck, under my chin, behind my ears, and often in my armpits, too. Many times they also hurt terribly. Now they are very rarely swollen. It is a very noticeable difference for sure.
  24. I am not 100% sure what you are asking. But I will try answering your question as I understand it (and I may be wrong, if I am please correct me). People can come here as guests, they are able to read everything, but are unable to post. If you aren't registered, you cannot actively participate. If you are a registered user, but you don't want your name...
  25. So much iron is very hard on the digestive system. If your villi aren't healed yet, you may just not be absorbing it, no matter how much you are taking. You might need some iron injections to bump your iron up to a more normal level, and then maybe your supplements will keep it there. I used to take an insane amount of iron pills (similar to the ones...
