  1. Blessedmommy, in all honesty, I am done with doctors. I have yet to find one who actually listens and pays attention. I had one doctor actually try to give me a shot that the last time he have me the same thing he had to call an ambulance and have me rushed to the hospital from his office. I'm just through with them.
  2. After 10 years of issues, I walked into an ER with my blood sugar at 40. When I told the nurse it was at 40, she looked at me like I was lying, so I handed her my meter. She about keeled over. (You should be unconscious at 40) My doc ran an A1C test, normal-no diabetes. She sent me to a nutritionist to "balance my sugar intake". The nutritionist went through...
  3. I wanted a nice steak tonight, so I went to Longhorn. I asked for a gluten free menu, and got the usual piece of paper. I ordered my steak, specified "no sauce" as the gluten-free menu says, and before even offering me bread, the server asked "are you allergic to gluten, or just on the health diet?" I told her I am allergic (which I know isn't accurate terminology...
  4. Per the manufacturers of Advil, phone call earlier this month: "Advil TABLETS are gluten FREE. Advil LIQUIGEL AND CAPLETS and some other formulations are NOT gluten free. At this time, we can only guarantee that our TABLETS are safe for those with celiac and gluten sensitivity."
  5. Valerie, welcome to the cool peeps club! I have to say it's nice to see your positive attitude towards the celiac diagnosis. While it's not ideal (especially at a young age when you may not be married yet and thus still have to deal with dating), the positive attitude is a good thing! I myself had quite the struggle finding celiac as the answer to 10+ years...
  6. Josie, welcome to the cool peeps club! I have not heard of cough directly being associated with celaic (so maybe unrelated?). The other symptoms you list, I have heard them all associated (and I have experienced them all). I have not heard the stomach pain described as being punched in the stomach, but it does kinda fit to be described that way. I'm going...
  7. You said you were already gonna be baking, plus I could use the tips on doing it gluten free style before trying to impress the ladies. (Or just 1 in particular)
  8. Dan, I know you don't want to hear this....but after your tests are run, do NOT stop eating gluten until you have the results. If they are negative, or borderline, your doctor may want to re-run the tests with a longer amount of time on gluten. The best and easiest way to do this would be if you just stay on the gluten until you have a definite answer. The...
  9. If you're making nachos and baking, I'm coming to visit too! Tonight I had a salad (loooong day at work, so I went out to eat instead of thinking about cooking). After dinner, I mosied on over to Barnes & Noble....big mistake! I found quite a few gluten free cook books and ended up buying 1, and joining their members club. That first 20% off coupon I...
  10. While a back up what Irish said, I have not seen any publications on studies or research saying a link, I also have issues with acetaminophen. I get the itching/ burning sensation.....but I also have my heart rate skyrocket with just a 200mg dosage of Tylenol. I do not know why, and doctors can't explain why, but I can't have acetinophen, injected steroids...
  11. If it is a muscle relaxer for your stomach, then it would be relaxing the stomach and likely also the intestines....and in my experience with muscle relaxers, also numbing them a bit. That being said, it could be treating a symptom, not a cause. Comparison to what I'm saying would be your fibro is flaring up. (From what I understand about fibro, it's all...
  12. That makes me feel even skinnier...I can slip a men's size 28 waist off without unbuttoning it. :-/ I was always overweight until a couple years ago when everything else started becoming way more pronounced, then it started dropping off slowly, and in the last year fell off like crazy. I think that's when the celiac really started kicking in, cuz it's also...
  13. What do you mean manage everything we go through?? Talking about clothes sizes, you know the "miracle diet" commercials where someone is standing in some huge pants that are twice their size saying they lost that much weight on this diet? Well, I pulled a pair of shorts out I bought last summer cuz the ones I had were too small, and when I put them on they...
  14. Lol. I was at mellow mushroom one night and someone I know that is aware I have celiac came in and saw me eating a pizza. She sat there looking at me funny for a minute, then walks over and this is the convo: Her: I thought you have celiac? Me: I do... What are you eating then? Ummm....some pizza? Doesn't it have gluten? Not this one...this is...
  15. I've had people do the same thing. Telling me I'm underweight, the people that have known me a while asking if I had become anorexic since I dropped a lot of weight in a short period of time, yet all the while I was eating a lot of junk that should have put weight on me. I even had a doctor ask about my diet and said I need to eat more carbs to get some weight...
  16. Where in the world did that website come from?!? I've been pouring over the internet trying to find gluten-free recipes and have not even seen that site before!
  17. Arizona, I've been through there before. Not much but some dry heat. I hate when I go somewhere and I'm sitting there studying the menu thinking "how can I make this dish gluten free?" Then I give up and ask for a gluten free menu. I do love how mellow mushroom does it though, their gluten free menu is in the regular menu.....the only place I don't get a...
  18. I'm going to when I see her again. Which will probably be Sunday unless I run into her somewhere before then.
  19. Well that just destroyed my excuse for my boss. Darn. Gotta drink water now.
  20. Wait, gluten in water, now I have a valid reason to tell my boss why I don't drink water! JK! But I did miss where Irish mentioned that.
  21. I can definitely relate to some of your post: -I have NEVER found a doctor that would actually take the time to listen to me, and one time had to get the law involved cuz my doctor tried to give me an injection I'm severely allergic to -I found out I have celiac from my nutritionist suggesting it, and had to pay for the blood work out of pocket at a private...
  22. Colleen, I'm aware of that, but this statement was when I was back on gluten so I could get accurate blood work. The doc asked me what I ate, and I told her, and then said "I know it was the gluten causing my problems and I was eating gluten again to get accurate testing for celiac".
  23. Okay, so this is the only thing that didn't make me laugh when I had someone say it to me that is mentioned in this whole thread. The reason I didn't laugh is cuz the only restaurant manager I trust anywhere near me said that to me.....being completely serious. I didn't find it funny or absurd when she said it cuz her mom has celiac PLUS a bunch of other...
  24. And the quest continues. I was hoping to click on this and see an answer cuz I have had absolutely no luck at all....and I don't like corn tortilla texture. :-/
  25. So I made the Daiya pizza, it says 3 servings on the box....my plan was half tonight and take the other half to work tomorrow for lunch. I don't know what happened to the second half, it just disappeared off my plate.
