ehrin replied to rlemmon's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
And I will shower thee with links! Here's the grill to get - cheap and lasts forever! The one I have now is my dads hand me down...from when I was a teenager - I'm 29 now!!! And since I just bought a new one I can tell you that sears has the best price, so I'll give you their link: Open Original Shared Link (don't bother with the one touch... -
ARCHIVED Charcoal Made With Wheat/ Cooking On An Outdoor Grill.
ehrin replied to rlemmon's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am a huge charcoal advocate. I just think it tastes better. I think most people prefer gas for the convenience factor - so if you're a person who's all about the taste, go for the coal - convencience, go for the gas! Get yourself a chimney for the charcoal - using that combined with lump wood coal, gets you a nice, hot fire in about 20 minutes... -

Try cowboy charcoal - which is just lump wood. It starts in half the time and has less ash. All those other briquet charcoals are also loaded with chemicals - YUCK! HOW LUMP HARDWOOD CHARCOAL IS MADE Natural Lump Charcoal comes from partially burning wood. It is also created by heating wood without oxygen. In doing so, this chared wood becomes... -

ARCHIVED Corn Tortilla
ehrin replied to Cin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you're looking for a way to cook them without oil I "toast" them right on my gas stove. My stove is impeccably clean, otherwise I wouldn't recommend it, but you can put the tortilla right above the flame for about 10 seconds, flip and do it again! YUM! -

I was in culinary school and was a vegetarian at the time. I had yet to be dx with Celiac. I can tell you that it was very hard to be in culinary school, as a vegetarian. As a cook you need to be able to taste your dishes so that you can ascertain the balance of herbs and spices, as well as to see if you botched anything or even to see if your dish needs...

ARCHIVED Fridge For Hotel Room?
ehrin replied to teankerbell's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I also have had no problems. This is sneaky, but it works. I book my standard room and then I call and tell them I need a fridge (for medically necessary reasons, I don't elaborate) and I always get upgraded to a suite for the the price of a standard room! Most hotels/motels are very accommodating. -
ARCHIVED Menstrual Irregularities
ehrin replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I find this very interesting. I have never had normal periods and they attributed it to my having PCOS as well. I've never found their diagnosis to be firm...meaning I just don't buy it. Yes, my testosterone levels are a bit high but I've had a hard time believing that I have PCOS. I don't have any of the other typical symptoms. And generally people... -

ARCHIVED Help Me Find Something To Drink...
ehrin replied to penguin's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
You can get margaritas made either flat or Jamaican (same thing) which means they don't use sour mix, they use Rose's Lime Juice, which is gluten-free. I much prefer that type of margarita as I HATE sour mix. And it guarantees that no mix is used. -

Hoisen Sauce, which is used often in Thai and Vietnamese foods, can have wheat in it.

WOW that's just amazing. Luckily I work with the printers so finding out shouldn't be too difficult - but it is going to be hard since I work in the industry and deal with various forms of NCR (carbonless paper) all the time. I guess I'll just have to be even MORE diligent about washing my hands, as I really have no way around not dealing with NCR stocks...

Can you elaborate on this please? I am an account manager at a print distributor and I deal with NCR stocks all the time. Thank you!

ARCHIVED Clan Thompson
ehrin replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just bought a Palm yesterday (although there is a black line running through the screen, so I have to return the damn thing) specifically for the Clan Thompson list. My question is...what happens when your subscription runs out? Do you pay the $59.95 again in 12 months? Or is there a smaller "renewal" fee? Thanks Ehrin -

Elonwy, You have just prompted me to send my man over to best buy and get me a PDA - what a great idea, and why I never thought of it until now is dumbfounding. Thank you so much for your insight!!! Ehrin -
ARCHIVED Flex Spending Account
ehrin replied to ehrin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you all for you input! I absolutely hate documenting anything, so I'm not sure if this would be a good path for me to follow. Does anyone have a concrete number of how much $$$ they saved using a flex account? I guess the bottom line would determine whether or not it's worth it to me. Currently I don't buy that many gluten-free food products, just... -
ARCHIVED Flex Spending Account
ehrin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here's something interesting...my girlfriend works at a company (Benefit Strategies) this company manages other companies (such as mine) flex spending accounts. Well get this, my friend told me that she had two claims come across from a client of hers for gluten-free foods and her company covered them at 100%!!! Does anyone participate in a Flex Spending... -
I just wanted to share cause I know there are some others on here from the area. I went to Margarita's on Friday (downtown Manch) and wanted a salad that came with seasonal roasted veggies. It also had an option of chicken to go with it. So I asked my waitress if she could check to see if the chicken was marinated and I quickly explained to her my "allergy...

I always find that 30 min of cardio helps tremendously - it's not during the actual cardio but about 15 minutes after that you'll experience a...shall we say release?

I consider myself to be extremely lucky - the only reason I wasn't diagnosed sooner is because I wasn't complaining. My symptoms are gas, gas and more gas - I just thought I was gassy, but recently I decided that it simply is too much gas for one person to have. When I finally went to my PCP he set me up with my GI for suspected diabetic gastroparesis....
