  1. hmmm I just looked on their locator to see where, in my area, I can buy their products and the only thing that came up is Panera Bread - Does that make any sense?
  2. I agree! I also have one for diabetes and will be adding celiac to it, but don't think it'd be necessary for just celiac alone...my thought is that since I wear one I might as well - question - do you have on yours that you are insulin dependant? I got a rash of crap from the medic alert staff because they said it wasn't necessary. I informed them that...
  3. Hummingbird-Hill - Since you were dxed about a year ago you may still be in the honeymoon phase? Has Joslin discussed this with you? In the honeymoon phase your pancreas is still producing a small amount of insulin which can be the problem of your erratic blood sugars - it is quite common in newly dxed diabetics. I take it you are a LADA (Late Adult onset...
  4. Hi Cam's Mom - I have both T1 diabetes (dxed 2/80) and celiac disease (dxed 10/05) and have also worn a pump for the past 4 years. Since your daughter started the gluten-free diet only 3 weeks ago her intestines are definitely still healing. You may, since you are still so new to this, have yet to figure out all the items that may have gluten in them....
  5. I cook it exactly as the package dictates - 10-12 minutes. It does however say that you can overcook it because it is so "strong?" Are you adding some sort of liquid or fat to it prior to refrigerating? I have never stored it as - is, it's always been dressed.
  6. I am also a T1 diabetic and was dxed with celiac and gastroparesis in October 2005 (although I highly question the gastro diagnosis - it just doesn't add up). Anyhow I am not so much having problems with my blood sugars - last A1c was 6.1 - and I attirbute that to the pump. What method of treatment are you using? MDI or a pump? I'd have to agree that...
  7. Not the tinkyada - other brands yes, that one no - although I've only kept it in the fridge for 3 days max - I'll also throw in my pasta salad recipe 1 lb shells, spirlas - whatever 1 cup sweet corn 1 cup petite peas (must be petite!!) 1 zucchini, quartered and sliced 1 red onion, sliced thin 1 orange pepper, chopped 1 cup light mayo 3T brown mustard...
  8. Was bummed to hear about Sapphire, as I love my gin - so I just e-mailed tanqueray today and just got this response! May 31, 2006 Dear Ms. Ehrin Kelly, Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding glutens in beverage alcohol products, specifically Tanqueray. Please be advised that Tanqueray products, which have been distilled...
  9. Geesh I know what you mean - how long have you been gluten-free? I'm in my 7th month and have put on over 10 pounds. I am already overweight so it's the last thing I need. Do you find you lack energy as well? That's my problem. Prior to my celiac diagnosis I was an avid gym goer. Exercise was a major component to keeping good control of my diabetes...
  10. 1.) Have you been officially diagnosed with any blood sugar condition (ie. Diabetes type 1 or 2, reactive or fasting hypo, impaired glucose tolerance, etc.)? T1 Diabetic for over 25 years - well controlled with an insulin pump A1c's range from 5.3-6.1 in the past year 2.) If you haven’t been diagnosed, what are you symptomatic of? N/A 3.) ...
  11. Can I ask, what Dr does the allergy tests? Do I call my PCP or do I call my GI? I have an appt with my GI next month so it'd be more convenient... I have a strong suspicion that I'm not tolerating dairy well. I never had this problem prior to going gluten-free, so I wonder if as my intestine heals I am developing other intolerances? This is a pain in...
  12. I called La Choy and all of their soy sauces are gluten-free - they do not hide gluten in natural flavors or caramel coloring
  13. Elonwy - how did you find that info out????
  14. I smoke, daily, and have never had a problem. I also use a pipe or a bong and have never even thought of wiping the mouth peice first hmm..... that's also interesting about the rolling papers - is there enough gluten in them to have a reaction? My dad will only roll, is not a fan of the pipe, so whenever I'm at my folks it's rolled or nothing...are there...
  15. It's called diabetic gastroparesis and it occurs in many T1 diabetics, not T2, not sure who you were talking to, but most diabetics are T2. I was dxed with gastroparesis on the same day I was dxed with Celiac. My stomach had not emptied after 12+ hours of fasting, but gastroparesis usually entails nausea, vomitting and weight loss - I had none of those...
  16. I use old El Paso all the time with no problems - I buy the hard and soft kit and just checked the link online - on that ingredient list there is no wheat I would find it hard to believe that they'd but a different seasoning mix in that kit - the individual packets have no wheat listed either
  17. This is very interesting!!! I'm going to give my toes a shot...my poor fingers are so calloused that it's very hard for me to get a drop out of them. Thanks for the advice!
  18. Please note that by using your forearms you WILL get different readings from the finger tests, often higher readings. The fingers really are the best way to get the most realistic reading. I know that, as a diabetic, the forearm tests really aren't good for us - not sure about hypoglycemics though (all meters are +/- 20 I believe, but this increases even...
  19. I agree - make your own it's much easier and if you really like chili make it in bulk and save it for later 2T chili powder 1T cumin 1t salt 1t cayenne (only if you like heat!) fresh cracked pepper I use either McCormick or Trader Joe's spices if you have a TJ's near you they are best to get spices from only $1.99 for a big jar!
  20. Whey is a product derived from milk, not wheat.
  21. Also, Ramapo Valley Brewery used to ship gluten-free beer made from honey. The website is Ramapovalleybrewery.com. You can contact them to see if they still ship. It was expensive when they did. BEWARE If you're looking for a gluten-free beer that tastes like...beer - don't get the Ramapo Valley. It tastes more like a cider/honey wine. It is VERY...
