  1. I have heard that many people are tested for years before having a positive diagnosis for celiac. If you feel better off gluten, then stay away. I have been having a similar pain on the right side under the rib case, radiates a bit into the back 1-2 hours after eating. It seems to be ok if i take a digestive enzyme with my food, I think it has to do with...
  2. I understand what you mean. I also come from that type of place, doctors yelling at me for having deficiencies when I ate healthy food! I ate my whole wheat toast and my whole wheat pasta! I moved to a much better city, better known for healthcare and still, I had to insist on testing for celiac, the doctor didn't think I had celiac and discouraged me from...
  3. Chicks love dudes that can cook!
  4. A few weeks after I stopped eating gluten, I had ridiculous energy and I would always go to bed thinking I needed 12 hours, and that's just not how it was anymore. I have settled on about 9 hours but for awhile there, I had such a burst of energy and was up till 2 am some nights.
  5. This has happened to me also, even eating good food. I have always had days where I just have uncontrollable hunger and it seems to have improved the past month or so. I have also taken up swimming a few times a week. I have arthritis and it seems to be a great workout with no pain for me. I looked it up and it actually burns something like 450 calories for...
  6. Gluten free oatmeal is quite expensive! I enjoy quinoa, and so does my tummy but it is quite expensive. Im hooked on millet!
  7. Man O man. I think CUTTING OUT chocolate, would cause me to scream. Thanks for the input. There is just so much conflicting information out there.
  8. OK #1 I had a problem with gluten free oatmeal and spending time with children who consumed gluten and may have gotten some on me. I had eating spicy food (very mild) 24 hours prior, someone had suggested this was why I was having a problem. Never have had problems with spicy foods. #2 thank you for clearing things up for me with the damage and such...
  9. Totally paranoid, just want to get better. I have been drinking a protein/vitamin shake that seems to be a good snack for me. I didn't realize it till last week but it has L-glutamine which is supposed to be great for healing. I hate the taste but whatever helps.
  10. Ok so I can have cooked cabbage and broccoli if it doesn't bother me?
  11. I have recently gotten into millet for breakfast. It is easier to cook overnight in a crock pot. Loaded with protein, fiber and low fat. I feel like its pretty cheap too because 1/4 cup is a serving which cooks up into 1 cup. I treated it like oatmeal and added some sugar and cinnamon, it satisfied my want for oatmeal in the morning but didn't give me heartburn...
  12. Thank you! Im just very concerned about making more mistakes, I made a lot when I first started in march and I just want to get better. I really try to avoid processed foods but occasionally you need to have your turkey burger with a bun or just have a freaking cookie so you don't go insane.
  13. I am really just looking for what things are good for healing for people who are new. I looked at the newbie thread, but im really passed the "omg i cant eat anything" and more at the point where Im like, what can i eat to start getting healthy. I like squash and I have read its easy on the stomach, but I think diversity is good for getting the most nutrition...
  14. I have noticed alot of cookbooks do not focus on whole foods, but processed foods instead. Recommendations?
  15. You said you eat salads? I know I love raw veggies but they are very hard to digest, also the dressings you are using might have a gluteny ingredient. and cross contamination.. is someone picking crutons off that salad?
  16. Being recently diagnosed is hard and many people tell me their nutritionist was not very helpful when they visted after being diagnosed. I agree, there was so many things they left out and never mentioned, like they say we can eat everything but gluten, NOT TRUE. Like eating gluten free oats, hello- bad suggestion doc! I will be seeing a different nutritionist...
  17. Continue to eat the way you normally do till testing is complete, no biggie! Ask the dr to run the blood tests for celiac, and go from there. I am a 30 year old college student at a state university and I managed to cut out gluten last semester and it actually benefited me very much. My brain was so much clearer, my concentration improved and I could study...
  18. This may have been part of it too. Around the time it stopped was when I started to supplement with extra B12
  19. I noticed that around my 2-3 month point of being gluten-free. I had read that it was normal to have that so I wasn't took worried, but it really just faded away after a few weeks-a month. I think I read it can be part of the detox process.
  20. I'm going to ny Presbyterian Columbia next month, I think Boston and Chicago are the best of the best though.
  21. It's so funny to me, looking back I could eat hot peppers all the time with no problem, but every time I ate oatmeal (pre celiac dx) it would give me heartburn without fail!
  22. I love oatmeal but it's just too much for my body to deal with. I tried it a few weeks ago and It made me very tired and made me stumble all over like I had been glutened.
  23. Im in NJ, also been looking for a group. I am so glad that you are taking control and doing this for yourself. I really wish I knew about celiac disease when I was 19, you will have such a better life sticking with a gluten-free diet. A little about me. I have had health problems since I was a small child. I used to go home everyday in grade school with a...
  24. Thank you! I really have heard alot of good things here about gluten freedom, but my local library doesn't seem to have it yet. I will have to keep checking back and check for the others.
  25. Oh, I also wanted to note that I was not curious about him being glutened from the medicine, I was wondering if its some allergic reaction that was common for people with celiac disease, I thought it might be possible because of how it is processed through the body or something. I really haven't ever taken it till recently, so I was curious to know if this...
