  1. Yes!! That is what I like to see. That is how I feel about it also. I look at cookies and think, I don't need those and I walk away smiling because I know I can make ones that taste better gluten-free. People tell me they would not want to have what I have and I tell them it is not so bad,I like my food better now than I did with gluten.

  2. Step right up folks, come one, come all..we have a real live doctor in our midst. Yes, we have one brave doctor who has joined the ranks of disgusted and bitter Celiacs.

Yes folks he was captured wandering in the hallowed halls of Celiac.com and we are thrilled to have lured him in with gluten-free food and smelly stool talk.

Now you over there, don't you be poking at this rare find with a stick. We got him in here and we don't want to be chasing him off. Let's offer him a gluten-free brownie and a bowl of Gorilla Munch and maybe some Jerk Swordfish.

  3. I drove the point home by using some medical conditions family members have to get it across. For my brother and his wife (she is diabetic) I said that I would eat gluten for a month if she would go without insulin for the same period of time. For my mother, I told her the same thing only she had to go without her Coumadin for the same length of time. Then they got what it would be for me to eat these foods.

  4. Let me see. The GI I saw 8 years ago with my Pernicious Anemia said: "This is all in your head you are insane."

The GP prior to that told me for a year; "You are going through menopause, you have the flu." I had neither.

The specialists who refused last year to to do anything about the nodules for my hypothyroidism said: "We want them to get bigger before we will do anything."

The Dermatologist who I forced to do a skin biopsy on my DH said: "DH only appears on the elbows and you are too fat to have Celiac because Celiacs are skinny children."

I proved him wrong, like I proved all the rest wrong

  5. I think this is a cartoon on irony. The top of it says Barnyard blues. Imagine how depressed a horse would be without grain and how depressed a squirrel would be with out nuts and acorns. I am taking it that Hilary thinks we would feel the same way if we had those problems.

  6. Radman--I guess most of us ,with our lack of faith in the medical profession in diagnosing this is well founded as you knew the same problem existed. I have not tried to make pizza crust yet but I plan to out of my Bette Hagman books. Her other recipes that I have tried have turned out great. On the issue of Bm's you will have a very hard time grossing this bunch out. We are always discussing poop here. I guess I was the classic adult child with my bloated belly etc., with this thing.

Skoki-mom--You had best have your B-12 levels tested and your thyroid. As those were the two things that made huge amounts of my hair fall out and believe me I felt like I was dying with severe B-12 loss and thyroid problems.

  7. When I googled the site this is what it said.

    Find a Specific Strip

So you're looking for a specific strip, but it's not in the recent archives? Here's what you do:

If you JUST saw the strip in the newspaper, you have to wait two weeks for it to appear on the site. I don't want to be in competition with the newspapers that pay me.

The Web site has cartoons dating all the way back to December 1, 1999. There are some missing, but most can be located. What you need is the DATE, MONTH and YEAR of the strip. If you have the old tattered copy, look for the numbers near my signature (that's the date and month), then look for the year on the copyright blurb.

  8. Hi Radman,

I hope you stick around there is so much we all have and can learn from each other. There are times we all sound bitter and it is because so many of us have gone through our lives being told "it is all in our head" while we suffered.

This place has been my lifeline and we can help you as much as you could help us. There is one thing on my mind that, is probably on many peoples minds here. As you are an Radiation Oncologist, I wonder if you had to go through what many of us have gone through or if you think you were listened to more or not because of professional affiliation. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

I know I have thought that most of us had to fight to be believed because we are not medical practitioners. Now that we have a real medical doctor in our midst your opinions would be very helpful to me and I believe to others here.

  9. Baby Quiches

1 pkg of frozen chopped spinach (10 oz)

3/4 C. egg substitute ( I even use just the egg whites one or half and half)

3/4 C. shredded fat reduced cheese (for those with dairy problems I use goat or sheep cheddar)

    1/4 C diced bell peppers

    1/4 C diced onions

3 drops hot pepper sauce optional.

Microwave spinach for 2.5 minutes if frozen and drain excess liquid. Mix everything together including any seasonings you want to add or other vegetables, mushrooms, garlic, shrimp etc., in a large bowl together. Then put foil muffin liners in muffin pans, spray with non stick spray and scoop mixutre into muffin cups.

Cook on 350 F for approx 20 minutes or until knife comes out clean when put in the middle. Take them out of oven and let cool. Take out of foil shells. This makes approximately a 12 baby quiches. However, if you put in lots of vegetables etc., like I do then make sure to add more egg substitute and cheese. You will get more of these quiches then. They keep well frozen and can taken out and reheated in the microwave.

The vegetable ones are approximately 77 calories.
