  1. Outside of my DH clearing up, the big D very rarely appears and is not that big when it does. For years I had horrible cramps that would almost bring me to my knees in the washroom, I would sweat and be in extreme pain. I have not had an episode since being gluten-free. Not only that but the big dark circles under my eyes are gone and my extreme tiredness is not as bad. I have noticed many changes. I always liked fruit and veggies but now I eat more fresh ones than ever before. I eat three apples a day and I am addicted to fruit and vegetables.

  2. Not only is his depression and dh part of this but he could end up losing his teeth. I think you may have to scare him into going gluten-free. Many people say to me that they could not live with what I have and that they are glad they don't have Celiac. At first I thought I would be devastated but instead it was liberating. I am more devastated when I get glutened.

I lost 11 teeth in less than 5 years, dedicated my life to the washroom had dh all over my face and my sister terrified me with telling me stories of what happened to her Celiac friends. One of them had colon cancer and now has to have all of his fecal matter emptying into a bag attached to him. I would say your son would be less devasted to be diagnosed as Celiac than to have colon cancer.

I am bipolar but I have been a little better since going gluten-free just over 2 months ago. Many people and I hate to say this but many men just don't want to know. How many memebers of your family have the disease? Challenge him to go gluten-free for a month and if he doesn't notice a difference on anything then he can go back to his way of life. Chances are he will notice something if not you will. My big D dedication to the washroom was dramatically changed within two weeks of going gluten-free.

I suffered with this all of my adult life and probably throughout the latter part of my childhood. He needs to do something or he needs to reach rock bottom and not want to suffer anymore. Getting a diagnois freed me.

Best of luck, it would be good if you could get him to even come on here and read the stories and talk with all of us also.

  3. Think of stomach or colon cancer. If you don't think you have suffered enough it is your right to suffer more. Personally, I don't enjoy suffering and that is all the motivation I need. I do not enjoy DH or suffering with it and having my face look like some kind of leper. However, I guess if you enjoy pain and suffering then you will never give up the gluten. Everytime I have a craving for a pizza, I make myself a gluten-free one. If I crave a cookie I either make or buy the Kinnickinnick chocolate chip cookies.

  4. Judy, I am afraid the doctor wouldn't know what hit them once Karen and I got finished. Hugs back at you and at anyone who has to suffer with stupid people.

I have a very low tolerance of stupidity and unfortunately in my job I deal with it all the time. Some people are so stupid I really don't know how they have managed to live so long.

Actually the other day I suffered a horrible allergic reaction to a suntan lotion. I went to a walk-in clinic, as it was a Saturday. The doctor there looks in my throat and says,"well you don't have tonsilitis." My reply was,"That is really good because I don't have any tonsils and haven't had them for over 30 years." She turned red and didn't know what to say. When I told my doctor he shook his head and rolled his eyes.He said he doesn't know how to they are trained over here. He is from South Africa and said he doesn't like the training of doctors over here, or should I say the lack of training.

  5. I want to slap that twit. What an ignorant bimbo. I am sorry, I am a terribly blunt person. I would have asked her if she had a genetic disease that renders her as stupid as she has shown herself to be. I would have said I was sorry for my disease which I can control. But that I feel more sorry for her because unfortunately she can't find a way to control her stupidity disease.

  6. Welcome Basha to the board and from another of the Canadian contingent.

If I can't call ahead to a restaurant then when I get there I grill them like a salmon on what they have that is gluten/wheat free. If all they have is oil and vinegar for a salad I ask if they have Balsamic vinegar.

Have you joined the Celiac Association yet? You get a really good little book to carry with you and a card. They also give you a heaping binder full of information. I got glutened by accident the other day because a friend and I had nachos and they swore to me at the restuarant that there was no wheat or gluten in anything but they put a spice on the nachos and that was enough for my dh to break out and me to have raging stomach aches.

Many people are shy to ask but I am not in restaurants, this is my health on the line. I figure if enough of us come out and ask in restuarants and apply some pressure then eventually we may get every restaurant to have gluten-free food on their menu.

Believe me Basha, this board is a great place to be. The support, people and wealth of information information here are unbeatable.

  7. I have a problem with food substances that don't need wheat or dairy in them containing it for the sake of containing it. I personally don't see why they need to add wheat to chocolate. I really do think this "adding wheat to chocolate, wheat and dairy to fries" is insane.

On Hershey's the last two times I had Kisses I was glutened and got very ill from them. I do know many companies add wheat into the chocolate but don't list it, I have yet to find out if they do or maybe make them in a factory that has gluten in it or it could have just been my funny stomach and something else glutened me that day, anyway I will check it out.

I just spoke to Hershey; they have guaranteed me that if there is a possibility of cross contamination or it is made in a factory where wheat or wheat gluten is it will say so on the package. She said the miniature bars in the bag or just the miniatures alone are contaminated. She is going to send me a list of gluten-free items althought it doesn not contain everything. I also pointed out on their website where they say that people with Celiac Sprue can tolerate a little bit of gluten. I told her this is untrue and they had best change it, she said she would alert them to that faux pas.

If anyone else wants the Hershey list all you have to do is call them.

  8. Does anyone have any contact info so i can call them.

I'm not totally convinced that the ice cream I had is gluten free. I am really suffering. All my rashes and funky symptoms are back. If it's not gluten then I am baffled by what I am reacting to. Maybe it's from the tofu that is in the icecream. What is tofu made out of? I want to figure it out before I give it to my younger boys who can't have dairy or gluten.

Here is their website link. I can't find the letter they sent me but you can write to them.

  9. I think this is not on unscrupulous but disgraceful for them to lie to people about potentially life threatening ingedients.

I was not one who ate at MacD's except occasionally for hash browns, that was before dx. They deserved to be sued on this because they totally premeditated to blatantly lie to people.

I am as disgusted with them as I am with Microsoft.

I have problems with why they need to add milk and wheat to anything. I make fries and never use milk, wheat, msg or other garbage on them.

  10. Sorry folks, the message I sent was a little lopsided. I have not been particularily well and my mind is faster than my hands.

The story on Global TV in Calgary said that ALL Macdonalds frys have dairy and wheat in them, not just the ones in the US. So both Canadian and American MacD frys have wheat and dairy in them.

  11. Here is the thing with some who can't make the cruise if it is not in the summer. Any time from May to October (at least) is hurricane season in the Caribbean and for you folks in susceptible to them in the US. So, cruises in the spring are good. If other trips that are non cruises for different locales in the future could happen at different times of the year. When the local climates are good.

I am still on for Celiac C's logo and getting the webhost to sponsor the site is terrific! Let's hope your sister can get past the big split problem.

  12. Tofutti fudgesicles and "marry me" are both gluten-free they do not guarantee the other things are however, I have had no problems with their "Better than Sour Cream" or cream cheese. They say they attempt to make those items gluten-free but they can not be totally sure because they are made in a different building than the fudgesicles and "marry me" bars. All the other ice cream products are not gluten free, like the Tofutti Cuties.
