Envirokids also has Koala Crips which are chocolate rice crispy type cereal, also gluten free. The Natures Path (Enviro kids) Cheetah and Koala rice bars are also gluten free, and very good.

I have lost 12 pounds in less than two weeks now and I am not starving.
I have no problem sticking to it and since going gluten-free I don't have an insane craving for chocolate, coke or other sweet things. I was wondering if anyone has found this since going gluten-free?
-
Many doctors and specialists are absolutely the worst at this, believe all their patients are morons who were born with one brain cell. How could we possibly know what is happening to our bodies, we never spent seven years in medical school.
Personally I think veterinarians are a better bet.
-
WOw! I do know exactly what you mean when it get's stuck and it builds up in your whole body! That is a horrible feeling! It usually stays in my stomach and back though.......well, I guess my upper back get's some of it, like right below my backbones. I really hate that.
I'm also a student still and when I'm in class, I can't really let it out. SO I hold it in, when I can't run to the bathroom, and that is when I get the WORST abdominal pains ever. It's my classic "IBS" (or what I thought was IBS before all of this) symptom. It's like, my stomach gets soooooooo big I look like I am pregnant; it gets really really hard! It's like, there is a short string attached from my lower lower stomach to about an inch below my belly button, and when I stand up, and straighten up, the string is too short! So it pulls and causes HORRIBLE pain! It's really hard to walk when that happens, sometimes, I can't, I have to crunch down and get in the fetal position. I used to notice this in high school when I first started drinking beer. I would have like 4 sips and all of sudden, this would happen (except I can't get the gas out then). Well, I stopped drinking beer when going out not long after I discovered this.

I can so relate to this. At work in our small cubicals it was like quick get that person off the phone and run to the bathroom. I was jet propelled and boy is it different after being gluten free for almost two weeks. I hate that I have to go back to gluten next week for a week. Good thing I work on the days when hardly anyone is in next week.
I have no problems staying gluten free but I will have problems going back.

well then, isn't that interesting.
thanks for the info.
i was concerned that in addition to losing my posts, i was losing my mind

Elbows, knee's, rear end, chin,.....................I go gluten free and I still get the bumps!!
Does anyone have any suggestions, I do take dapsone, but not a big doseage
also does anyone get a REAL bad rash and itch in your underarms??
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Now that you mention the underarm rash, yes I do. I get really awful things below my bottom lip on my chin and bumps and rash on my chest. The underarm rash is itchy, red and burns. The facial thing itches and burns the chest itches, and the elbows itch. I have not had any of these since being gluten-free. Next week I have to go back on gluten so that when I see the dermatologist the week after, I can get a for sure diagnosis. I never equated the underarm rash with anything before but now it makes me wonder.

The push this button; push that button is very agitating and by the time you do that, and wait for a half hour then the person is a maniac when they get to a real person. I know, iget shrieking people all the time. That is why I do not shriek at them when I get them. I know it is not their fault, that is the companies for doing that and being so cheap they don't hire enough people.
Knowing it is not the persons fault does not make me like it, i hate it either as much or more than anyone else. Whoever came out with that should be executed in the public square.

Hi,
I'm curled up in a ball, clutching my stomach, and thinking of just moving the sofa into the bathroom so I don't have so far to run. I've been glutened...for sure. And the only thing I can think of (although I admit I could be wrong) is that I have been adding a sprinkle of ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg to my tea for the last few days for some flavour. I wrote to the company (McCormick) to ask about the gluten situation in their cinnamon and nutmeg and got a reply that basically said (summary)..."we use only pure ingredients, but we change our recipes alot so we don't bother putting the ingredients on the label (HUH?), and we require that our processors maintain clean contaminant free factories.
Anyone have this type of reaction to McCormick's ground spices? Can anyone recommend a safe brand?
gotta run
Gabby

My suggestion to you is this; go to a health food store and buy the spices that are not mixed. These are the raw spices that are ground or not. They will probably have them in bags they put them in because they buy them in bulk. I have used raw spices like that for years. This is because many you get in grocery stores are mixed with MSG. and other junk though they don't say it because they say it as "and other spices" or "assorted spices." For seasoning salt I use paprika, salt, and white pepper,I have a cupboard full of natural ground unmixed spices because that is the only way I can be sure that I am not getting msg and gluten.

jnifred,
Sounds like you are writing part of my story. I have had TMJ for about 25 years now, so bad that they have to put me out with sedation to do my teeth. As pain killers are out of the question because of numerous allergies I learned to tolerate the pain.
Now that I have been gluten free totally for the last week, I have noticed I have had not one tmj pain or contraction in my jaws. Unfortunately, and I am not looking forward to it, I have to go back on gluten next week.
I find I don't get my tired spells when I am not on gluten also, but then I know gluten has not totally left my system after years of eating the stuff.
Your story sounds like mine and so many others on here. I would say that it sounds like we are all paddling the same boat.
I know how difficult it can be with doctors and more so with old world Eurpean families. My parents knew nothing about anything in their families because neither my Danish or Italian grand parents would talk about it and neither would my parents. Which in itself was a crime mainly out of ignorance. Now my mother will talk with me about her health issues which there is a correlation between her issues, my sister, brothers and me. Although she doesn't believe she has this, my sister may have this and so may my younger brother. Just my younger brother is chicken about this stuff and my sister is not going through everything that I am or have but she is watching.
I wish you good luck and suggest you try to find a civilized doctor who will do something and do it right. I am having problems with doctors up here. The majority totally despise anyone who does research like I do.

I lost about 7 lbs but I have since gained it back. I think that some of our alternatives are pretty high cal., so it may be more difficult than you think depending on your current diet. I would love to lose 10-15 lbs, but have no idea how - I feel bad enough for myself now with how little I can eat, I can't imagine being on a diet
And, I work out about as much as my schedule allows (every day for 1-1.5hours).....
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
When you have a little to lose it takes longer than a lot.

I had gluten-free dreams soon after my diagnosis. My dreams went something like this, I am about to eat a food with gluten in it and at the very last moment...stop and ask myself what am I about to do. My husband had similar dreams too. I haven't had one in over a year now.
I want to commend you on your great courage and persistance in seeing yourself through your multiple health challenges.

Thanks Tammy, I feel we all have great courage to have spent years going through this and other affiliated problems, yet still hanging on even when we meet with adversity.

I have been having VERY strange dreams lately!! I had a dream last night that I ate a BLT on White toast. It was my 9yr old son who pointed out to me that I was eating BREAD! (I have great kids that know what I can't eat!) So... I asked for something different. In my dream, I didn't get sick! I must have been wishing that it would have been true! BLTs are my son's favorite sandwich!!!

It is a great thing when people get on board with you and watch out for you. My friends had a party on the weekend and as we all brought something for the pot luck, they told everyone they had to tell me what was in each item and not to cross contaminate. Even my mother who is such a nay sayer has got on board with this and said she wants me to make the dressing and gravy for Yule this year. She doesn't want to contaminate me.
-
I had a horrible dream last night. People were holding me down and stuffing gluten bread and cakes in my mouth. I was begging them not to and crying. I then had to spend time in the bathroom and in pain. I think it is because I am not looking forward to going back on gluten prior to the dermatologist.
I have discovered another thing since being gluten-free, I have not had the uncontrollable cravings for sweet things like I did before. Has anyone else found that?

I've actually lost about 85 pounds in the 2 1/2 years that I've been gluten free! I still have more weight to lose, but I def. like my new body a whole lot more!
I went from wearing a size 3x to now I'm in medium 14/16's!!! So excited. Would love to be in a 6/8, so that is my goal
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I was a size 6 before so, now I am a 2x and looking for getting back to my size 6 self I hope in the futrer.

I have lost 5 pounds in this the first week of being gluten-free. Even with my synthroid I could not lose weight until being gluten-free. I am probably going to gain it all back when I have to do one week of gluten before going tot he dermiatologist.

Unfortunately some of us who are allergic to the flu shot have to roll the dice on this one. The last flu shot I had put me in the hospital and I was swollen for more than a month. I have managed to fight every flu that has gone around in this building, I hope I will this year too.
-
I don't get the flu shots even though I am supposed to because of my asthma etc. I am allergic to them which I suffer more with them than if I had the flu.

That's cool. I wonder if the Edmonton German Canadian Club can do the same?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It would be worth giving them a call. The one here say they do it all the time.
-
Here is another place to add to your gluten-free list for all the people in Calgary. The Heildleburg House in Calgary (German Canadian Club) does gluten free, and vegetarian meals. They have a German Buffet but you can call ahead and request special meals.

What I have done so that everyone doesn't think I am on some fad kick diet. I have told them period that I can not have gluten or anything to do with gluten. This is something I have to do for life because of my health. This way they are not going to say, "are you still on that diet."

Hello, I will introduce myself. My name is Jessica and I am married with a 20 month old daughter Emily. I have been diagnosed with celiac since I was 11. There are 10 kids in my family, all who have celiac disease. My mom's dad died of Chrone's disease when he was 33 and my mom was 6. We have all had to deal with it and learn how to cook gluten-free so that we could when we were older. The youngest child has it worse than all of us. She can't have eggs, nuts or even a spec of gluten or she is covered in DH. We waited until Emily was a year old to give her any gluten. She has not shown any symptoms until recently. She gets hives on her face right after eating something high in gluten. It doesn't last long, but concerns me. We are thinking we should get her tested just in case.
The University of Maryland has mine and all my families blood for celiac testing and sends us all sorts of interesting stuff on it. Anyway, I look forward to getting to know all of you and supporting each other with dealing with celiac disease.

Welcome to the board, I have found it being helpful here. I hope you enjoy being here.

My BF Parents used to have me over for dinner but ever since I was diagnosed havent heard from them it's kinda funny how impatient people are or how ignorant people can be. Having celiac has made me a much more understanding person. Now it's like there is a whole new world and I am not the only one living in it. It's pretty crazy to think of what I did not know a couple of years ago. The one thing I can tell you is it only gets better socially & physically.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
That is sad that your BF's parents haven't had you over. The probably don't know what to do or handle it and figure if they stick their head in the sand it will go away. I hope they can come around for you. Because I just had a huge surprise.
I just had the most amazing conversation with the hardest person in my family to get to come around. My mother called me about Yule dinner and said that I had best make the gravy so I don't get contaminated. I told her I would also make the stuffing with gluten free bread because that would be a killer, I will bring my own spices to do it with so I won't get any contamination. She agreed that would be the best idea.
I practically fell off my chair.

I would do it but I have been gluten-free for three day and I have not had the biopsy. They would not want to pay to fly me down there either probably. I would be a great one to try it on because if there is an unusual reaction, I will have it, then on the other hand one could grow three heads from it and get other medical problems. They could save tons of money by doing it with any prisoners that have Celiac.

This is my golden opportunity to really introduce myself so my real name is Randi-Lee and Some of my friends call me Rusla, as it is my craft name. I am a Pagan and I do not eat children and kill husbands, although I have had some ask me if I could. That would be not good for the karma.
I am 53 and was married for 6 months 33 years ago, I have never remarried, and right now totally single except for my two cats. I have a 33 year old son and two grand children and because the gma word feels so ancient they call me Grandi.
I used to model even up till getting the thyroid and subsequently the gluten problems. I have been in movies, drove taxi's, semi's and trained dogs and horses I have shown dogs, horses and cats. I drove bus for Calgary Transit and now I work in the office.
I write books and poetry and have to pitch one of my books in January to a big NY agent. I live alone with my two best friends Thor the Terrorist and Athena the Goddess Kitty. Thor is devilish and Athena is quiet and cuddly, Athena a rescue cat has manners and Thor one I got from a person has no manners.
Thanks to Lori skoki mom, who suggest I see the Calgary chapter of the Celiac ASSociation, good thing because they told me how I could get the diagnosis instead of going through the biopsy and another blood test. As they truly suspect that what I have on my face and chest is DH and I see the dermatologist at the end of this month, so he can do a skin biopsy on them.
I have a wicked sense of humour and I do many things including leather work, photography, painting and sewing. Where do I find the time...search me.
This list has been great for me finding out information and everyone is so helpful. It is great to know that we don't have to be alone in this world or even feel alone.
