  1. I will get cheese, deli meat, crackers, cut up veges, etc.--at least I did. I used to stop at a really great meat market that made all of their own cheese and get lunch from them!! It's going to be a lot harder now having to watch for gluten that is for sure!!! I did buy one of those coolers that you plug into your car to keep food cold so I can pack more...
  2. We were heading out of town on Saturday and stopped to get gas. There was a small used car lot across the street from the gas station with a sign that said "our cars are gluten free"...ok, my first reaction was to laugh...but then I thought, with all the fad diets out there, maybe it's not so funny that people joke about this...but I still laughed.
  3. LOL---I saw Walmart has Cinnabon mixes now...pretty sure they were not gluten-free but I was sure tempted to get one!!!
  4. Ok--that sounds good!! I'm not doing much yet because my husband will be home for a week alone so who know what he will do .
  5. I'm going through our kitchen to get rid of gluten stuff. As I go through cabinets and drawers I'm cleaning them as well. Is just wiping them well with hot, soapy water enough or do I need to douse them with bleach??? I tossed my oven mitts in the wash but I'm thinking I should probably get new--or is just a good washing in hot water ok? Might be better...
  6. I'm going back to the doctor next week so I can get the info then. I'm mainly wondering what all the numbers mean because we are supposed to be getting our daughters tests back early this week and if she shows genetic markers from both parents, my husband needs to get tested . We have 2 other children that are balking at getting tested, they are adults...
  7. True..but I like them with syrup. I could heat up some jam and use that though too.
  8. Giving this two thumbs up!! I like this! It's very smooth and creamy. In the past I've used Quaker Quick Oats and traditional oats, usually make it with milk and add in some craisins. I like Bob's much better!!! I made it with 1/2 water, 1/2 milk today just to see how it worked out. The hardest meal for me is going to be breakfast because I typically...
  9. Looking at my bill....my labs were $111.07 for the tissue IGA test, $88.99 for the IgA, $336 for each of the genetic tests, endoscope was $1313.41 plus $234.76 for the biopsies, $238 to read the biopsies. I have very good insurance and have met all of my out of pocket costs for the year so I won't pay anything for these or the rest of my $9000 bill .
  10. I've looked online but can't seem to find anything. How do you read these test results? What do the numbers mean. I saw someone posted that their genetic markers were "high", are they a range or are they just codes for which genes show the markers? Test: DQ alpha 1 05:01,05 Test: DQ beta 1 02:01,02:01 Serologic Equivalent: 2,2
  11. I was tested at 32.4. I know my niece was 128 and had no symptoms. I mainly have D but now that I'm reducing my gluten in prep of going gluten-free, having too much gluten has brought back some major gas that I had before but just thought it was what it was.
  12. I've read online that the lab centers that do the testing run in the $150ish range, give or take. Not cheep but not too bad either. Usually those lab center places are pretty inexpensive compared to what gets charged at a hospital or clinic. Overhead is lower.
  13. Everyone that stops there should encourage them to start opening chains or franchises for the rest of us. Sounds like a great place to go!!
  14. Open Original Shared Link Cybel has a blog too I've used a few of her recipes--they are very good.
  15. I'm confused Georgia-Guy--you do or don't have diabetes? I'm wondering why you had a monitor and maybe I just need more coffee . Hopefully some day they will come up with better testing so people don't have to do the challenge. I guess I should consider myself lucky that mine was found during a battery of other testing. I don't know if any clinics...
  16. My MIL swears by adding a little vinegar to her crusts...if you have gluten-free vinegar....after that, I don't bake
  17. I have one more week to eat gluten. Because of the diet I was put on for other things, I haven't been eating much gluten the past 3 weeks. I've noticed I'm much less gassy. Well, today was a day of my last time eating a few things, and I overdid it a but. I never really noticed symptoms other than D and my celiacs was an add on test for other things,...
  18. Get an an appointment with an ENT that deals with Meniere's disease http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/menieres-disease/basics/definition/con-20028251 . Your symptoms are very similar and hearing loss and ringing in the ears are an unfortunate side effect of this.
  19. Kids do slow down around 2 or 3 and might not grow or gain weight for months, so that in itself isn't that concerning. She could just be small, again, not concerning. What I am wondering, however, is if she has been tested for allergies. The symptoms you describe could very well be various allergies, not just to foods, but other things, especially the...
  20. When you call on Monday, ask if they will just order the genetic testing. Often you can go in and just have labwork done without seeing the doctor, then the results will be there before you go back in August.
  21. There are 122 items on that list--some in chemical compound form. Its going to take my old, foggy brain a while to recognize all of those on site, which is why I like the app.
  22. The app pulls up the ingredients when you scan the bar code and it matched what was on the package. "m still learning what is good and bad on the labels so the app is helpful. Maybe it's a default safety since it's pretty generic ingredient. It's good to know they are ok though. I love these .
  23. I scanned a barcode for something yesterday and it flagged it as having Gluten. I thought I had read that the products were gluten free and I just double checked their company website and they said that all of their products were Gluten free. The app flagged "Food Starch-Modified" as containing gluten. So, gluten or not? Maybe because it's ambiguous what...
