Yes, most policies will cover the surgery if it's medically necessary. Losing a large amount of weight often comes under that category. It's worth looking into for sure. Meet with your doctor, they can send over a pre-authorization form to see if your insurance will cover it so you will know one way or the other.
  2. I've noticed a lot of the gluten-free foods are very high calorie food so even if you are not eating a lot of them, they may be adding up. There are a lot of cell phone apps and/or websites that you can track calories. Maybe pay attention to how many calories you are eating each day and see if there is something there too.
  3. There is nothing wrong with a dentist suggesting a patient see an MD about a possible medical problem, Celiac or other, based on findings with the teeth or mouth. Our son's eye doctor brought his possible allergies to our attention based on the bumps inside his eyelids. That is totally appropriate and expected. What is NOT appropriate is some lay-person...
  4. Do you have ringing in your ears or have you noticed any hearing loss--maybe feel like people are mumbling a lot?
  5. I know this is an old thread but oh well....I have horrible fingernails. They are like paper and split and crack and peal. I finally had fake nails put on because I just hated how they looked and it's painful when they split down below the quick. I hope they get better like other's have experienced!!
  6. If you heat the tortillas in the microwave, put a glass with some water in there--not sure if it works with gluten-free ones but it helps them from getting soggy/rubbery. I usually put them in the oven in foil to warm though.
  7. Oh, how I would LOVE to get some relief from my back issues!! Mine started when I was in high school, in the dark ages. I've had off and on problems since. Some days I can hardly get out of bed it hurts so badly, other days, it's fine. I wonder if it's Celiac related?? I've been to a very good massage therapist and she was able to give me some relief...
  8. That is for 2 specific classes of antibiotics. If she is not one one of these, yogurt is fine and recommended. She can call her pharmacist to double check.
  9. Does it taste like "pasta" or beans?
  10. Antibiotics can do that to you as well so the combination might just be overload for you!! It sounds like whatever antibiotic they prescribed didn't get the bacteria the first go-round so the culture is good so they can get you on the right medication. My daughter has been on I don't know how many antibiotics and it helps her to take them with yogurt. ...
  11. Were you officially tested for Celiac or a gluten allergy? If not, maybe it is something else, not gluten related, causing your problems? Have you had any other testing done to see what might be the root cause?
  12. Have you been tested for Mono? I'm gathering from your "hot dish" you are in MN and I know that it was going around MN not long ago and if not Mono--Lyme or West Nile?
  13. Again, the immune issues can mimic the symptoms for Celiac and can explain most of your other symptoms as well. It's a couple more vials of blood, nothing too horrible. I would suggest you see an infectious disease doctor or a doctor that specializes in immune deficiency and just see. My daughter has this, and is probably Celiac as well--still getting...
  14. I haven't tried it yet but I saw Krusteaz has a gluten-free pancake/waffle mix now too. I like their gluten formula so I'm hoping these are good as well! I bought some yesterday.
  15. It's all in the numbers. If you have a 20 on your IgA tissue test but your IgA total is 5, your 20 tissue test might come back in the normal range. Low IgA in itself can cause a lot of issues, but there is really not much you can do for low IgA other than ingest extra protein to help bump that number. The OP could very well not be celiac disease, but should...
  16. Grilling steaks and veges tonight!
  17. Open Original Shared Link These might work for you. Scroll down for the individual packets.
  18. Sick how? Is it just bathroom issues or other illnesses?
  19. The U of Chicago is a reputable organization. If it was some random website I would not have signed up.
  20. The "Cocoa Pebbles" tastes ok. The chocolate flavor is really good actually!
  21. A low IgA is one test used to check for immune deficiency. The problem with a low IgA is that it can nullify your tissue IgA test. I have to look back to remember everything else that is going on but you may want to have a full immune deficiency panel run, IgA, IgG (and it's subclasses), IgM, etc. Low IgG subclass 3 can cause the bowel issues seen with...
  22. I signed up. They asked for a PDF of your lab work and your Dr. contact information as well as where you had your biopsy done.
  23. Roasted chicken, new red potatoes and broccoli
  24. I just bought one of the Koolatron coolers too . I am not a professional driver but I travel for work, a LOT. Trust me when I say, I'm in the middle of NO WHERE at times and the gas stations are not the nice convenience store ones . Often they are just unmanned gas pumps with no food or restrooms .
