  1. I'll see what my doctor says. They are supposed to be calling her back today I guess. She is not a "kid"--not sure it should be on this board . She is 20. . We know she is IgG deficient from other health issues/testing she has had done.
  2. I've always used saltine crackers in my meatloaf. I can easily substitute gluten-free crackers. So far you are the only one I've read that has come up with these concerns about vegetables and such. I don't know that there really is conflicting information vs you have found some bad sources of information. Read deeper into those sites/books and...
  3. The testing, at least the lab work, is simple. It's a blood draw. From what others report here, it's difficult to get a doctor to consent to that in Canada. You don't need a diagnosis to go off gluten, but, if you need that diagnosis later for something else, it's difficult to get accurate results. It's much easier to do the testing now vs later.
  4. She shows "negative' for Celiac but she is IgA and IgG deficient. There is a disclaimer on the lab sheet, right under her total IgA saying "Celiac disease unlikely if patient is on a gluten containing diet and is IgA sufficient." They ran : Celiac Endomysial IgA -negative Celiac Gliadin Ser IgA --Value: 0.2 EU/mL Reference Range: <6.1 EU/mL ...
  5. My advice, put the books down, read food labels and make what you like. I don't know who Dr. Weil is, nor do I care, but when they start in with the propaganda and hype, I stop listening. What works for one, won't work for another. It's generally accepted that when you are sick, starting back on more bland foods can eliminate some shock to your system...
  6. That is great news--well, not so great that you have Celiac but great that your dr is on board!!
  7. Do you have her cell phone number?????
  8. Since you are all set up, you could probably start a pretty profitable business baking cakes and goodies that are gluten-free .
  9. Others will know better than I but an Glidan IgA of over 200 being Gluten free for over 6 months seems suspect, especially with everything else being in the normal range. I would get with a Celiac dr as soon as you can and see what is really going on.
  10. I'd go get the bloodwork and possibly the endoscope done before you do any dieting. Results will be more accurate and the process faster. Find a GI that specializes in Celiacs though.
  11. Soooooo??? What happened?
  12. The biggest issue with some of the alternative medicine people is that they work outside the scope of their practice. I've talked to Chiropractors that can "cure" everything from a bad back to cancer....but a good Chiro knows better than that and can give relief for muscle and bone aches. My FIL was having severe pain in his legs and nothing was helping...
  13. The "gold standard" for an official diagnosis is positive blood work and a positive biopsy. It seems to be the consensus here that positive blood work is Celiac hands down and maybe your doctor feels the same. There are others that won't give you the time of day if you are not "biopsy positive" Is he a GI Celiac specialist? I guess if soda were giving...
  14. I bought a convection toaster oven to replace my toaster. It was only $10 more than a toaster so I thought, why not. I'm really enjoying having that in my kitchen. It was very hot here yesterday and I broiled pork chops in the toaster oven without heating up the kitchen with the main oven. It's just the 2 of us so it had plenty of room to cook. I could...
  15. I would find a Celiac center or a GI that specializes in Celiac disease. They will have the resources to help you and properly diagnose you. There is a board here to search for doctors or ask for help, but if you are near a major metro area, chances are there is a Celiac clinic near you. I use the analogy that sure, your dermatologist is a doctor and...
  16. Thanks. She has been under care for this for a few years (my daughter). She has mild CVID and really only needs antibiotics if she gets sick at this point so that is good. I'm surprised that she was never tested for Celiac during that time though, oops. Her celiac test results should be back today or tomorrow so we will see. She has way more symptoms...
  17. I got a call from a pharmacist at our mail order pharmacy yesterday. He said that my current meds are gluten free but he said that because it was generic there was no way they know from one refill to another which brand they would have and suggested using a local pharmacist instead. I'll have to go talk to the pharmacy and see what they say now. I haven...
  18. I can see where you would forget to check a label on a spice mix since most of them are gluten-free. Penzey's makes a really good Taco Seasoning and they are gluten-free!! You can order online if you don't have one near you and if you sign up for their mailing list, you get a coupon with each catalog for a free spice of some kind...and they have a lot of...
  19. We can buy ethanol free gas at almost every station here--you have to pay more though--about $.20/gallon more!
  20. What if you are low IgA and low IgG? Does the low IgG have the same effect as low IgA and not showing as a positive?
  21. I'm not doing a challenge at least. I'm just cheating until I know I have to stop .
  22. Open Original Shared Link My store had them back by the appliances, not with the other coolers.
  23. Do they make their smoothies on their blizzard machine or how? Often McD's is my ONLY choice of a place to eat and I need some safe go-to foods there!!
  24. If anything, the fad diets have prompted more companies to make gluten free foods!! I remember when my niece was first diagnosed, it was almost impossible to find gluten-free foods other than the obvious, veges, etc. Now there are entire sections of stores that are gluten-free and the various breads, etc. that are not bad tasting. Hubs had a Udi hamburger...
