  1. Let me know if the app works. I've looked at a few of those and the reviews have not been bad. One poster on one of the apps even said that she scanned regular bread and it came up as being gluten free . I would like something to say yes, this has gluten, not so much no it does not.
  2. She eats a lot of peanut butter, yogurt and cheese . Unfortunately that doesn't help you. Beans are good sources of protein. She certainly has an interesting medical history and for the most part is healthy but still has some lingering issues, mostly D and migraines now so I'm thinking that Celiacs might be the last piece to the puzzle. I'm actually really...
  3. Many medications are plant based and basically the same thing as the "natural" stuff you get from your homeopath. Just because they are "natural" doesn't mean they are better so you may be having the same issues on those pills because they contain the same ingredients or some of the same ingredients in the medicine from the GI doctor. Not knowing your history...
  4. I know--old thread but I use Penzey's and I emailed the to confirm they were gluten-free because my cupboard is full of their spices and mixes. This was their response "You may be happy to know that spices are naturally gluten-free, and we do not use any wheat, rye, oats, or barley in any of our products. Ingredients are clearly listed on our seasonings...
  5. I'm wondering if there is an app or website to check ingredients to see if they are gluten free? With so many of the chemical names being unfamiliar and just being new at this, I'm wondering if there is something where I could type in what is on the label and see if it is gluten-free or not. I just had some cereal and nothing on the label contained gluten...
  6. Hubs could probably benefit from going gluten-free or mostly gluten-free. Hard part is that things he is having problems with could be attributed to a lot of other issues and he's not one to go to the doctor . With the kids grown, it should be easier to go 100% gluten-free. I'm going to have him go on his baking binge next week so we can enjoy our favorites...
  7. I don't force her to eat that..or anything. I hated that as a child and never did that to our kids!! She LOVES beef though but has has some major GI issues the past year or so. She was tested for a beef allergy but did not react to that at all. She said chicken started bothering her this year too, but thinking back, it was almost always breaded chicken...
  8. Well, shoot...there goes my Pumpernickel!!
  9. I am not sure if hubs will go totally gluten-free, probably not. He will eat gluten-free meals, dinner, because I'm not a short order cook and he'll eat what is put in front of him . So, I get having 2 toasters, no way to get our current one 100% clean. Cutting boards and wooden spoons, if they are washed in the dishwasher, ok to use?? How about kitchen...
  10. Another suggestion, if possible, when open enrollment comes around for your insurance plan, if you have a PPO option vs an HMO option, most PPO's do not require referrals. It might be worth it to get him a private plan through one of the health exchanges if you don't have a PPO option through work.
  11. I ran into someone at the grocery store yesterday and she was buying some gluten-free foods. I asked her if she was gluten-free because it was my first gluten-free shopping trip and I was going to pick her brain. She said she wasn't but kept a few things on hand for others. She asked if I was dieting with a bit of an attitude and I said I was gluten-free...
  12. Just looking at your profile--was the beef/pork free by choice or because you were having issues with it? My daughter has issues with meat that came up recently. She is getting tested for Celiac in a couple weeks and she is hoping to be able to eat at least beef again...but not sure if she will or not.
  13. I made this for lunch today...Open Original Shared Link . Just don't add the chicken . It was very good, and filling!!!
  14. Something else to make before going totally gluten-free . We used the recipe on the Creamettes box and I love it!! I use Wondra for making gravy or roux usually but cornstarch works fine too. I always add potato water to my gravy as well...well, I used to do all that I guess.
  15. Is there a type of quinoa that is better than another? I really need to find an oatmeal substitute.
  16. One thing I saw on a list that made me chuckle, but it's real, is play-dough. With you having a little one, probably something you want to avoid. I have 2 more weeks before I have to go 100% gluten-free so I'm slowly changing over. I'm not sure what my hubs is going to do--if he will go gluten-free with me or not. He is the baker in the family though...
  17. Wait---I can eat Rye bread??? How about Pumpernickel?? or did you find gluten free versions of those?? I'm not a huge bread fan to begin with but I LOVE pumpernickel bread!!
  18. Can I resurrect this old thread? I keep getting directed to this but it's old . Is there something out there to use to test food to see if it is gluten free or not--maybe something like diabetic testing strips?? I'm just wondering about CC mostly, say oats or something that is supposed to be gluten-free but might not be because of CC?
  19. I'm not aware of any correlation, there may be some, but there are risks in going overdue, just like there are being born too soon, the least being babies being too big all the way up to death of both the baby and the mother.
  20. uggggg, something else I have to look into...it never occurred to me that my meds could be an issue....
  21. I hope I can post a link but I use this shampoo/conditioner. I got it before I knew I was diagnosed. I noticed in passing that the label said gluten-free, but now I guess it makes a difference. It's also sulfate free but unlike most sulfate free shampoos, it lathers great!! You only need a very small amount, pea sized for medium length hair. I have the...
  22. Not quite sure where to put this: What about gluten free at the grocery store? We have an excellent grocery store near us, think old-fashioned with professional grocers, real meat market, etc. We buy all of our meat there. They hang and cut their own meat. What should I be asking or looking for to make sure I don't have issues with the meat there...
  23. I just downloaded the "Find me Gluten Free" app for my android phone. Thanks for the suggestion!!! I travel a lot for work and more often than not my choices for eating in the road are McDonald's or whatever selection the local gas station might have. That is going to be the biggest challenge for me going gluten free. It's not always possible to pack...
  24. I think they wanted me to wait because there is one doctor doing a study and maybe some further tests??? He is doing a genetic study I think and I was originally tested because I have a relative with Celiac and had a few symptoms, mainly fatigue and bathroom issues . I haven't met with the GI team yet either so some of that scheduling was due to my schedule...
  25. That question is high on my list of questions to ask when I go back. Everyone here talks about being "glutened" and having reactions right away, will that happen to me, who is fairly symptom free other then bathroom issues, but, after I totally cut out gluten, will the reactions come harder??? I'm also looking forward to the holiday season and if I have...
