  1. Today's new product: Bisque Color Corrector. Now when this came, I just couldn't imagine what I would use it for, but it was free and on the EM boards someone mentioned using it as an eyeshadow. I got plenty o'eyeshadow ( ) but figured I'd find SOMEWAY to use it. Well, I just used it as it was intended, lol. My facial skin is MUCH pinker than my neck, so I didn't think I could use this as it's a bit pink, but I mixed it with a little water and applied it wet to my undereye area, and the dark spot under my eyes. It worked great and didn't look pink at all. I also applied it wet to my eyelids...made a nice base. Applying the concealor wet helped that wrinkly look under my eyes too.

Today I used BABY BATH, lol. It was GREAT!!! Not too light...in fact, just right. Love this shade. I used an older shadow Cypress for the contouring. I used smokey as a liner.

COOKIE SHEET!!!! Yes, very nice blush. Looks dark on my margerine lid but went on very nice...not too dark and not too light.

You look terrific in your new avatar! Seems like the foundation matches perfectly and your eyes look great!

Thank you so much for that information. That book sounds like such a wealth of information. I am surprised how complex makeup and it's proper applications actually are.

Thanks! The foundation looked great after it was on and I had the other color on, but when it first went on it looked like someone hit me with a powder puff, lol. I think it matches my neck better than most of the other shades I have. I may have to have this one for winter.

The makeovers in the book actually look VERY natural....these are some of the prettiest makeovers I've ever seen, but yeah...lots to think about, which is why I usually don't, lol.

The little color swatches the blogger put on her arm are really helpful to see what the color looks like on the skin. The Pressed Olive looks too light for what I am looking for, like her I assumed it would be a rich "Olive".

I really like the look, and description of Shopping Spree.

Hum, my trusty spreadsheet says that Shopping Spree is a darker color and would make a nice liner. Now, what's dark for me is probably not that dark on a lot of people, but I really liked this color and my notes say it was dark for me. :P

Pressed Olive, I liked at lot. My notes tell me I thought it was "Very subtle, looks good as a smoky liner"--it gave just a hint of color that way. I think I put it mostly at my lash line...you really couldn't see a lot of color but it made that area smokey looking.

I like the looks of Oasis and Shopping Spree. Luckily I already had those in my cart - I think! I need a copy of the spreadsheet I'm starting to get confused over my color choices, lol!

Donna - your new avitar is the best yet. You look beautiful.

    ...

So far I love Girls Day blush - very pretty. I hope it doesn't turn orange as the day goes on.

I got the lip gloss too, which I like, but it seems a little more red than the blush. Time will tell on both of those.

I absolutely love the Samba lessons eye shadow.

I don't really know about the rest yet. I will be playing around with those this morning and let you know.

Thank you! May have to try Girls Day. :) I loved Samba too! Very nice color!

    A spreadsheet?

  4. Okay, I FINALLY found a lip gloss that I can put over the Spring Pink that makes it look great, lol. I've been searching high and low, and in my best cult-worth efforts have been buying every lip gloss I can find. Finally found two that I'm happy with.

Donna, you look fabulous in your avatar! I liked all of them, but this one is probably my favorite, you can really see your coloring here really well. You look absolutely gorgeous :D

Are you sure you are the age you claim to be?? I don't buy it

    ...

How does one determine if one's eyes are deep-set??

I think you've sold me on this book

    ...

I use baby Bath as an all over lid color.

    Thank you!

I MISSPOKE! IT WAS BIRTHDAY CAKE not Baby Bath I used that was too light, lol. SHEESH!!!! Gotta get my colors right before posting! Birthday Cake is too light, but not bad with the other colors blended over it. Will try Baby Bath tomorrow...trying to figure out if it will look good with Sunset Voyage, lol. They look like they're in a different color family, but it might work anyway...

Sort of wish I WASN'T the age I claim to be, but I surely am, lol. It must be because I ACT like a child...must even out the age thing.

The book gives examples of how to determine if ones eyes are wide set, close set, etc. It doesn't on that page, but I think it says somewhere else in the book about that...I'll try to find it. I have several eye things going on...deep set, droopy and hooded.

  6. Sheesh, I'm posty today

So today I'm trying the Golden Fair foundation. A little light, but eye color and blush helped a bit. I think I found my holy grail of foundation in the Golden Light.

For blush I'm wearing Jump Rope. Love this color...I'm not even sure how I'd describe it, lol. Very nice though. I tried Mango's suggestion of putting a tiny amount of Soft Touch over it. Oh and by-the-way, after I'd washed my face and was ready for bed, I saw the lonely little SOft Touch container sitting there on my toilet tank...so decided to just swipe some across my cheek to see what it looked like without two layers of WAYYY too light blush underneath it. I just stuck my finger in the minerals and smudged it on my face. To my surprise, it looked really nice. I think if I have my foundation on and do the same thing it will be perfect.

    Eyes:

First put on Baby Bath...a little too light, but I put it on all over as a base

Then On the PHone. Now this one I LOVE! So basically, I sort of covered the Baby Bath with this one, lol.

Then close to the lashes I put on Wild Flowers. Love this too...it's not quite dark enough to be a liner, but that's how I'm using it today (and in my avatar)...it looks a little smokey without being a harsh line.

So, yay, On The Phone and Wild Flowers are keepers!! :)

I actually had to clear out a few of the eye colors that I don't wear often to make room for all this stuff, lol. I need a bigger case. :P I know exactly which one I want too. Someone posted a picture of it on a thread at EM.

  7. Here's the info on the deep-set eyes from the book Makeup Makeovers by Robert Jones:

The goal with the deep-set eyes is to bring them out and make them more noticeable.

A dark eyelid does not work with this eye shape. You want to highlight deep-set eyes as much as possible to help bring them out.

A dark crease is also unnecessary for this eye shape as nature has provided its own so no need to emphasize.

No need to highlight the browbone since it is already prominent

If you wear eyeliner, keep it close to the lash line and very thin.

Tips: never darken your lid because it can close in your eyes and make them appear smaller and for drama, use a brighter (not necessarily a darker) color of shadow

Application (there are diagrams in the book to demonstrate each of the following steps):

Highlight shade: Apply to the eyelid and in the crease

Midtone shade: Bring the color up above the crease and sweep it across the browbone to help visually "push" the browbone away from us

Contour shade: Apply to the outer corner of the upper lash line, then up onto the corner of the browbone to help "push" the area away, or recede. Sweep the countour shade underneath the lower las line for definition.

I have to say that the makeovers in the book are wonderful...the differences in before and after are very dramatic, but in a natural way.

  8. New avatar...got tired of the brown, tired of the red and now I'm wintery white. :P:lol: I think the foundation is a bit too light (it's Golden Fair which is lighter than my fav Golden Light, but it doesn't look horrible (I think, lol).

I also considered a tattoo, I do want one, but I really fear I will react to the entire process of the instruments searing into my flesh and then the dyes themselves, NOT GOOD.

Does anyone else have problems with the EM community boards?? I would hang out there frequently but honestly it is a pain in the caboose for me to navigate.....

Yeah, the dyes would probably kill me, lol.

The boards are a pain...I get a dialog box every time I hit a key there, but I still look.

Hi Sarah. I've been trying a few things...the moisturizer thing seems to work the best. I still get a tiny bit of "wrinkling" there but it's not as bad.

    I'm glad I didn't do it.

Yeah, even back then, whilst in the middle of my who-cares-what-I-do-to-myself phase, I thought it was a bad idea, lol.

I've also always thought I'd like a little tatoo, but when I was much younger a co-worker had one done on her hip, and she made the mistake of showing it to me right after it was done...um, that kind of cemented in my mind that I would not ever actually get one, lol.

  10. Mango,

My sister has little orphan annie eyes if she doesn't put eyeliner on. I *think* she actually was considering tatooing eyeliner on at one point, lol. Good thing we're not related. :P Someday I'll explain how THAT all works, lol.

Eeeeek! This is interesting. I always felt the lighter colors looked better on me but didn't realize why. I have deep set eyes and it's true when I try to do a smokey look or dark eye shadows, I look tired. I also have the puffy type eye lids so I probably shouldn't be highlighting that area either. Do they suggest an alernative method for eyes.

Yes, there are a couple of things it says to do, I'll look them up to make sure I'm not mixing them up and post later or tomorrow.

Thinking I might go on a candida-lite diet. Cut out all carbs, except for fruit and starchy veggies (the occasional potato or sweet potato). I've been eating gluten-free bread lately and thinking that might be part of the problem. And Pamela's gluten-free cookies give me heartburn! Ack! So that's a clue right there.

Yeah, I'm in the same place, different foods, lol. I've been eating chocolate--regularl ole chocolate, and I've been having sooooo much more congestion, and the extra sugar in general is really flaring up the ole candida.

  12. Far from expert on the subject, lol, but highlighters....

The book I'm reading says to highlight any area that you want to bring forward. Lighter colors come forward and darker colors recede.

I have deep set (relatively) eyes, so technically I SHOULDN'T highlight my brow bone. I do anyway because I'm a rebel. If your eyes are not deepset (or you are a rebel) you could highlight the area right underneath the eyebrow.

The other places (which I HAVEN'T tried yet) are just above the cheekbones, down the center of the nose (this would be especially good for me since I have a big nose, and especially if I contour the sides of my nose with a darker color, lol), and in the center of the chin. There's also a couple of places on the forhead, but I don't really want to highlight that areacovered by bangs anyway. :P

  14. Today's review:

Wearing the free sample Ivory that they describe as a foundation/eye color. The first brush touch down on my face was pretty light for me, and it's in Original Glo formulation, so probably will be too glowy for me, but once I got it on all over, it looked okay. Probably won't be a keeper as far as foundation...I may try it as an eyecolor eventually, but with my oily eyelids, I'm thinking Original Glo won't work well for that. (Oh, and I DO have on the Sunlight Finishing Dust as a primer on my eyes and face.)

Blush: Okay folks, the burning answers to some of those questions I saw posted overnight, lol. I am wearing a lavendar sweater today, so I decided to try Anytime blush. Um, waaayyyy tooooo light for me, lol. It's a pretty color so I'll try this again with a different foundation and if that doesn't work, I'll try it as an eye color, and if that doesn't work, I'll try it as a lip gloss, lol. I want this color somehow. :P

So then I put on Veranda over that, which looks a bit darker. Um, that was also way too light...looked like someone hit me with a "grey" powder puff. I also love this color though, so will try it with all the other combinations I mentioned for Anytime.

So THEN I tried Soft Touch. Okay, I think by that time there was just tooooo much white dust on my face. That also didn't show. This is also a really pretty color, so I'll again try it with other foundations and in other ways.

I wiped off as much of the white dust  as I could without taking off my foundation, and put on BEST FRIENDS!! Okay, bingo, hit a winner. This is beautiful...nice mauvy pink. Very nice on--course, I'll have to try this on it's own before I do a double  on it. :P

Eyes: Bedtime story--used as a base...it looked pretty light when it first went on, but I decided to just wait it out until I got the other stuff on.

Net Surfing-- Love this...have it on the lid and when blended up over the Bedtime Story, was just about what I was looking for a couple of weeks ago when talking about wanting lavendars.

Mystic Night--   I love this...I have it on as an eyeliner. Very pretty smokey purple. Love it!!!!

Oooooooooooooh Donna, maybe your email will end up in the testimonial section at EM. You will be beautiful and famous!!! ;)

  15. Amanda,

I grew up with "beige" parents, lol. Everything was beige. When I bought my condo, I sort of followed in that by painting everything WHITE, lol. After a few years there I couldn't stand it, so I painted my room blue, the spare room yellow, and if I hadn't got sick I would have painted my living room purple and my bathroom pink or green.

Now that I'm better, I'm thinking of painting again...not sure I have the energy, but I definitely want more color.

Oh, and when I bought my condo, the one in front was also for sale...I live in a "4-plex", so it's very possible you can find that situation with your neighbor.

Okay so this is weird....A bunch of people on other forums are talking about using a certain type of....monistat as a foundation primer. Hmmm...not something I would have thought of...

Yeah, I saw that on an EM thread too...not only would I have NOT thought about that but I'm not sure that now that it's been put in my brain, I'd WANT to put it on my face. :P

    Completely unrelated....

I sent in a gushing email to EM. Basically saying I've felt like doodoo for 5 years and couldn't have cared less about my appearance and now I'm having so much fun with makeup and it doesn't cause reactions.
