  1. Calling out to those of you that also get just headaches/bodyaches from gluten. I’m having a hard time pinpointing whether or not I’m just getting over one exposure or if I’m getting continual exposure. I’ve figured out that my headache/bodyache comes about 48 hours after exposure but then for the next week or so I have some days I feel bad and other days th...
  2. I’ve been dealing with horrid heartburn ever since I had an endoscopy in August and Zantac is the only thing that helps me. I hope you find relief soon!
  3. I’ve recently figured out that it takes me 2-3 days (most of the time 3) to have a reaction. I have the neurological symptoms, migraine and body aches, which I figured is why it takes me longer for a reaction. Knowing this has definitely helped me identify what is glutening me and it doesn’t feel as much like a wild goose chase anymore.
  4. Thanks, Chrismark! I have bad dry eyes which not even the gel drops help. They're always red no matter how many eye drops I use a day. What brand of vitamins do you use? I've been taking Nature's Bounty b complex and have avoided the eczema and canker sore after my last glutening. But if I could help these dry eyes....
  5. My detective hat is finally hung...after a feel-miserable-day I finally figured out the culprit--Jimmy Dean turkey links. I thought I had fully researched them in the past but decided to give it another go tonight. Mysterious "caramel coloring" maybe to blame. Frustrated with myself for not checking them closer yet very relieved there's something concrete...
  6. Thank you! How very helpful. I will look into a B supplement. That makes good sense since I'm so very careful. Thanks for the links.
  7. I will look into sunscreen. My baby is sensitive to dairy and soy so for myself and the baby I use Badger and for my 4 year old I use Copertone babies. Badger should be okay but maybe CC in manufacturing is getting me. Thanks everyone for the help!
  8. For the past month I've been having gluten headaches, eczema and canker sores and cannot figure out where the hidden gluten is. I switched dish washer detergent (to Kirkland) but that is really the only thing I've changed. I've scoured my medications and bath/body products, looked at every food label, kept a food journal, don't eat out and still can't come...
  9. Thanks everyone. I just spoke with Honest and they said the wheat is just in the absorbent material and not in the cloth. I asked what plant material is in the cloth and she said she'd get back to me. I definitely prefer to be safe rather than sorry. I'm considering cloth diapers but I'm just not sure they would work with our family. Pampers and Huggies are...
  10. I used Honest diapers with my first child before I was diagnosed. We have a newborn and before I start using Honest diapers again (which do have wheat in them) I'm wondering if anyone has had an issue with these diapers. I don't imagine you get exposed to much gluten, if any, by touching them but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thanks for your feedback!
  11. I take synthroid (50 mcg) and have never had a problem with it. I think there's a high prevalence of hypothyroid and celiac (but I could be wrong). I know some people with Hashimotos that do better on a gluten free diet. Good luck to you!
  12. Congratulations on beginning a more symptom free life! It has taken me a year to identify everything that was causing cross contamination. Luckily there's loads of information out there to help you get started. If you are just going gluten free I strongly advise you do a thorough kitchen cleaning (there are online guides) and pitch everything plastic or scratched...
  13. For me figuring out additional sources of gluten has been maddening but here's what I've learned in the past year (when I went gluten-free) that has helped. First, it's really important to replace anything in your kitchen that's wood or plastic or scratched. It's expensive but well worth it. I started feeling better when I replaced all my spices and did a...
  14. If you decide to say something you could suggest that since your diagnosis you've been cooking a lot so kitchen supplies (such as bowls and whisks) are always a great gift. They're still food related gifts and very useful! I know around the holidays it can be so hard to get family to understand what gluten-free really means! Good luck.
  15. I seem to keep finding more and more possible cross contamination issues in my kitchen. I recently pitched all my old spices because I used many of them whenever I was baking and some of the manufacturers were questionable. I also finally cleaned out my cabinets and washed out my drawers. I realized I was using a 20-year-old ceramic mixing bowl for gluten...
  16. I seem to get the same reaction I get to gluten with oats (headache, body ache, fatigue) although more mild. It took me a while to figure it out (as it does with every glutening!). Your symptoms sound like you could be reacting to the increase in fiber. But, if your hunch is its the oats then it doesn't hurt to give them up. They're much easier to avoid than...
  17. I think I'm reacting to La Flor spices (cumin and garlic salt to be exact). Has anybody else had this problem?
  18. Have you had your thyroid levels checked recently? I know since I've been hypothyroid I'm cold all the time and my body temperature is even one degree lower than it used to be.
  19. I couldn't even imagine my family's reaction to me saying I'm on a FODMAP diet! (Although if that diet helps some people more power to them.) It is hard enough for my family to understand what gluten is. I think a lot of people who are willing to try a gluten-free diet without being diagnosed were already eating healthy before going gluten-free. And, many...
  20. I've had a lot of luck making my old baking recipes with Namaste gluten-free flour blend. I buy it at Costco. I also recommend you do a thorough cleaning of your kitchen, including ditching all the old plastic, rubber and metal (if scratched) utensils and dishes. I began to feel much better once I did this. As for peanut butter cookies, the gluten-free five...
  21. Thanks for your thoughts on a shared kitchen. It's crazy just how sensitive I am with being new to gluten-free. This weekend we had a birthday party which was all gluten-free (I found great cupcake recipes) except for beer. I must have gotten a drop in my food because I got sick (not bad though). I tossed all my old plastic and silicone kitchen ware and that...
  22. I just downloaded ShopWell on my phone which scans bar codes and will warn you about potential wheat or gluten (after creating a profile with wheat and gluten listed as allergies). I tested it out around the kitchen and so far so good!
  23. its okay for children to be (mostly, at least in the house) gluten free even if they don't have issues with gluten, right?
  24. Thanks so much for the advise. I think it will take time to get my husband on board. I can only imagine how hard it is for a spouse of someone with celiac because of how drastically things change once diagnosed. He is getting better about cleaning up after himself in his gluten-designated area. My 2 yo daughter, however, is the greater challenge when given...
  25. I would love some advise on the shared kitchen too. I've been gluten-free since April and am slowly learning just how uber careful I need to be to avoid getting sick. It's such hard detective work to figure out what makes me sick each time I get glutened. My husband, although sorry to see me suffer, does not want to change his eating habits. He eats 1.5 loaves...
