  1. Fun topic! This is fairly typical, although I'll treat myself to sushi for lunch or dinner around once a week. Breakfast: cream of rice or gluten-free cold cereal with milk; black tea; maybe a banana morning snack: banana if I didn't eat it at breakfast; raw almonds and raisins Lunch: big salad of baby spinach with tons of fresh veggies, cheese...
  2. I've been using soy milk for years, simply because I prefer the flavor. Unfortunately, my favorites ended up having some form of barley in them. Right now I'm using Soy Dream Enriched -- Original Flavor. It's fairly neutral in flavor when eaten with cereal. I find Silk to be a little too "beany," but I know alot of people love it.
  3. I'm so sorry you're going through a rough time. Are you still gluten-free? The nerves probably aren't helping your stomach, but do you have any idea what else is setting it off? If you can eat rice, I would try eating nothing but white rice for 24 hours. That always helps my system recover and get back on track. What are your meds for? Can you talk...
  4. Wow! I am in love with your husband. What a great guy!
  5. My gliadin IgG was the only high value on my blood work also. My doctor wasn't as good as yours and told me I was fine and should just take Immodium. I was desperate to feel better without popping pills, so I decided to try gluten-free anyway. I have had a very positive dietary response. I'm realizing now that, while I thought I had only been having symptoms...
  6. I used to live there, but it was before going gluten-free, so I'm not too sure. I can tell you that there's a Whole Foods at P and 14th NW near Dupont Circle, and another in upper Georgetown, on Wisconsin, I guess. Where are you staying? Neither of these is near the tourist stuff, but might be close to where you're staying. DC is also the land of steak...
  7. A little off-topic, but just to warn you -- check those buffalo wings carefully if you aren't making them yourself. Even if they aren't noticeably breaded, alot of places dredge them in flour, or use a sauce that has gluten. Good luck!
  8. I'm sending warm thoughts of health and strength to both of you!
  9. Ha! Definitely time for new pants! Maybe if the other products do well, they'll realize that they should get the K-Toos as well. I haven't had them (like oreos, right?), but I'm sure I'll get there sooner or later. Enjoy the donuts!
  10. Hi Ursula, Congratulations on the weight loss! The best part is, it sounds like you've done it in a really healthy, strong way, which is so important. And thank you for the thoughts on fat. Having been a complete devote of the fat-free way of life several years ago, I still have to remind myself to buy the "real" versions of things. But I usually...
  11. Hi, I've read old posts about Whole Foods and about yogurt, but I haven't found an answer... Does anyone know if Whole Foods 365 brand fat-free yogurt is gluten-free? The only questionable ingredient was natural flavors. I just assumed it was fine, but just checked and discovered that it's not listed on Whole Foods' gluten-free shopping list. The...
  12. My grandmother has vertigo. She has been diagnosed with so many autoimmune problems (though not celiac) that the doctors just label her as having autoimmune disorder in general. I think she probably has celiac, but I don't think she's ever been tested. Anyway...she started Tai Chi and says it helps the vertigo tremendously. It's funny, because my grandma...
  13. Hi Matilda, It's good to hear that you're feeling so good. I think you're right about eating real food, although I don't completely put it into practice yet. I think it's one of those things that takes alot of discipline, so, for me, I'm not going to be able to stick to it until my body forces me. I'm not saying that's ideal, but it is what it is...
  14. Thank you so much for all the replies...and mostly for making me feel like I'm not alone! I think I've pulled through this phase...yesterday evening I started to feel more normal in the hunger department. I had a glass of milk before attending a lecture, and it actually held me for a few hours (I had a lara bar in my bag just in case). It was scary in...
  15. These are my typical breakfasts: gluten-free cereal (Erewhon gluten-free crispy brown rice, Nature's Valley blue corn flakes, Health Valley Corn Crunch'ems) -- read labels carefully and watch out for malt. I have to go to a Whole Foods or natural food store to get cereal. Cream of rice (if you have hot water, you don't have to cook, just let it sit a...
  16. Oh, I'm so sorry, Lollie. That does hurt. What I've figured out to avoid these situations is that I've learned which people are understanding, and believe in things like gluten intolerance. I look to them for support, and I also share my excitement with them when I'm doing better. For people who don't quite buy it, I just stick to the story that it...
  17. Thank you for the feedback. Makes me feel a little more "normal." I know exactly what you mean, dani, about feeling self-conscious about eating. My office has an open floor plan, so that everyone is in cubicles, and I feel like everyone notices that I am constantly digging in my drawer for another snack. I also do the thing in the evenings where I'm...
  18. Hi, For the past week, I have been incredibly hungry all the time. I'm not talking about munchy, unable to control my eating, but actual physical hunger sensations almost constantly. I get a 30-60 minute break from them right after eating, but then they come right back. This happens whether I eat a huge salad or something smaller and denser like a...
  19. This is so true. For those of you having trouble with soy milk -- make sure the brand you are using doesn't contain gluten. Alot of brands have barley in them. I almost ordered a soy latte at Tully's yesterday, until I saw a container of Vitasoy behind the counter. I know Vitasoy contains barley flour, because that was one of my mistakes early on. My...
  20. They are Mission and are labeled gluten-free. I was buying a different brand of yellow (also labeled gluten-free), but at my market last night I could only find Mission -- yellow or white. So, I don't know how these compare to yellow Missions, but they are alot better than the other yellow brand (Tortilla Factory, maybe?) They still are not identical to...
  21. This may sound silly, but I am so excited about today's tortilla discovery. I've been eating yellow corn tortillas, and I like them, but the flavor is pretty strong. Today I noticed white corn tortillas at the market -- also labeled gluten-free. They are so much milder in flavor and less hearty in texture. To me they are much more versatile, since they...
  22. Hi Susan, I hope you didn't think my post was nasty. I didn't think you were crazy, but since I couldn't see it, I wondered what was going on (regional differences or something.) If my tone came across meanly, it was unintended and I apologize. Really, thank you for seeing this and for sharing with the rest of us.
  23. Well, no matter how much refreshing I do, mine won't update (tried the shift trick too, but no luck). Strange since I've never been to the site before, but I trust you guys. That's crappy...I hadn't even treated myself to any since going gluten-free.
  24. The part I quoted before is exactly what it reads when I use the link pixiegirl gave. No wheat. I wonder if we are being routed to different sites based on where we are located? Why would a huge company like McDonald's trick people by changing the ingredients around?
  25. Hi Susan, I'm a Suzanne, but people call me Susan about half the time As for the fries, I'm not seeing what you're seeing...this is what the page says when I pull it up: French Fries: Potatoes, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, natural flavor (beef source), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (to preserve natural color). Cooked in partially...
