ARCHIVED Black Spots
CMCM replied to confused's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know about the spots, BUT.....asthma does have a connection with celiac/gluten.....not all people with asthma have this link, but a great many actually DO. I was one....when I was eating gluten regularly, I had all the asthma symptoms, had to use Advair 2x a daym and this went on for years and years. Without gluten, no asthma. In addition, eating... -
ARCHIVED If The Blood Test Comes Back Negative
CMCM replied to zjune's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have observed that you feel better gluten free. That is the most revealing thing! There is far too much emphasis on a search for existing celiac disease at the expense of ignoring the much much MUCH more widespread problem of gluten sensitivity. If you have been minimizing gluten, or not eating it at all, there simply may not be enough antibodies to... -
I only got my celiac disease confirmed a year ago, but 4 years ago I did Atkins for about 2 months....I wanted to lose this 20 or so lbs. which I simply have never been able to budge in about 10 years, no matter what diet I was on or how much I exercised. About 6 weeks into Atkins I had lost a lot, maybe 12 lbs, and felt absolutely wonderful....I remember...

ARCHIVED Colonoscopy
CMCM replied to January Flower's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It was not a big thing at all. I had the conscious sedation, I guess....basically I must have drifted away with it, next thing I knew it was over and I was waking up. No after effects at all, nothing. Don't worry about it! -
I just ordered this DVD of a recent (last summer) seminar on Celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. It answered a lot of questions I had, plus it pointed out some rather frightening statistics I had not read before. The lecture puts together a lot of studies and really tells us where we stand with this. If you are wondering if you are "merely" gluten sensitive...

Nancy, where in Folsom is that ice cream shop? (I go there occasionally) I'm dying for a cone! Carole

The other reaction I forgot to mention is a very itchy rash on one ankle. Just out of nowhere, itching like crazy yesterday but better today. I've had these rashes before....I got one last summer and thought it might be some sort of poison ivy, although I really hadn't been anywhere to get it. It was a raised and horrendously itchy rash about 4 inches...

After a month of very successful gluten-free eating (as evidenced by normal poops!) I got creamed on Friday. We went to a restaurant where I questioned the chef about the foods I was ordering, and he said they were definitely gluten free. I had a steak w/fries, beet salad w/olive oil and greens on top, and vanilla ice cream w/light choco sauce on top. ...

ARCHIVED In Limbo And Have No Willpower
CMCM replied to chocolatelover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OK, here's a question for you. Situation: You feel horrible all the time. You eliminate gluten (and maybe casein too) for a few weeks and feel wonderfully better as a result. Your body returns to normal. Then doc says "Sorry, nope, no sign of celiac disease. Go eat wheat." So would you go eat wheat even though it makes you feel sick? Or would you... -
This is the part that drives me nuts....to find out exactly what the difference is between celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. There actually doesn't appear to be a huge difference with the one exception of the fact that with active celiac, villous atrophy occurs and with gluten sensitivty it doesn't. From the latest reading I'm doing, I've understood...

I just had to comment on this. I've noticed the exact same thing with gluten and casein! I always thought I was so terribly dairy intolerant (hence casein intolerant, since I tested that way, and perhaps lactose was a problem too). But now that I'm being 100% gluten free, the dairy problems are gone.

ARCHIVED He's Back!
CMCM replied to JerryK's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Jerry, LISTEN UP! Be glad you don't have the celiac gene, BUT.....don't consider "merely" haviing gluten sensitivity genes to be a big nothing. This is the PROBLEM with the state of things right now....everyone is focused on the worst subset of gluten sensitivity, celiac disease, and ignoring the rest of it. You're fortunate to to have to worry about... -
ARCHIVED List Of Power Bars/gels That Are gluten-free
CMCM replied to Sandyo's topic in Sports and Fitness
Lame Advertisement has just started producing some bars which I found quite good. They sent me 2 samples in the mail, and I liked both the chocolate and the coconut almont (although I liked the coconut one best). I wish they were higher in protein...12g, total carbs 23. But they have some good features: No gluten No soy No casein Omega 3's They... -

Jerry....Go to this page and read....especially pay attention to the last couple of paragraphs. Open Original Shared Link -
Hmmm, very interesting note here. I had heard about IHOP putting pancake batter in their omlets...I didn't ask at this place because I've had this particular omlet at least 4 times with no problem. But it was big and fluffy (my omlets at home never look this great). I should ask them. And interesting that you can get heartburn from ice cream and...

ARCHIVED What Do You Eat For Breakfast?!
CMCM replied to LittleZoe's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've found I feel best and keep going the longest if I have eggs for breakfast. I try to vary them, though. I'll do a frittata (chop some onion, red/green peppers, small bits of broccoli and/or spinach, and saute in the pan in something (I use Smart Beat). Then pour in an egg (I like Eggland's Best....lower cholesterol & fat, higher omega 3's) mixed... -
Well, regarding the Baskiin Robbins....as it happens, my granddaughter had a cup of cookies & cream flavor, although I think my vanilla was scooped out first. Also, I am not typically that reactive to cc type things. I'm also doubting the gluten as a culprit because I have had no intestinal or D issues with this, just the terrible unrelenting pain for...

I ate only 2 things yesterday. One was an omlet (at a local restaurant) which I have ordered many times with no problems. About a half hour later we went to Baskin Robbins and I had a hot fudge sundae....vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, blob of cream, a cherry. When I got home maybe an hour later, I vaguely remember not feeling great. I swallowed about ...

ARCHIVED Reliability Of Stool Tests For Diagnostic ?
CMCM replied to florent's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Rachel, you do make some very good points about Enterolab. I, too, am getting annoyed about the "imminent" publication of results which hasn't yet happened. However, in defense of Dr. Fine, to get peer review and articles published in the major medical publications is a huge task requiring a lot of analyzed data, samples, controls, etc. I wish I knew what... -
ARCHIVED Devastated! Everything's Fine With Me?
CMCM replied to sonja69's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Sonja, Just a few comments from my own experiences. I had a hard time isolating problems at first. When I first went gluten free the change was huge, but not 100%. I still had dairy problems, and that took maybe a year to go away for me. I've read that eating gluten when you are intolerant can actually lead to a lot of intolerances including... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerant, Not Celiac
CMCM replied to KarenLee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
We just tested my mom (who has diagnosed celiac disease) and she turned up with two copies of the DQ2-0201 celiac gene. She's what someone referred to as a "super-celiac". I queried Enterolab about this and also did some other research, and apparently this is the worst combination....greater likelihood of getting celiac disease, and possibility of greater... -
Wow...you've got a very bright and forward thinking doctor. You're lucky!

I can feel a kind of mental lethergy, slow thought, inability to really concentrate, lack of desire to do much of anything. I get real inefficient in everything I'm doing and I don't accomplish much. No energy. I later realized all the connections with feeling like this and eating gluten, and that this is what people must be referring to when they...

ARCHIVED Reliability Of Stool Tests For Diagnostic ?
CMCM replied to florent's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with the above comments about Enterolab. And Enterolab's testing as a viable, solid, perhaps even BETTER alternative has been positively discussed in several recent books about celiac disease. If you think about it logically, as Dr. Fine says in the article linked above, a gluten reaction begins in the intestines as a reaction to the gluten which... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Or Lactose Intolerance?
CMCM replied to stromssa1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have had so many of your listed symptoms, right down to the spaghetti! Despite the fact that my own mother was diagnosed with celiac disease at 48, I never thought I had it because my symptoms weren't extreme like hers (I thought it had to be extreme). I spent my entire life up until age 56 thinking I was most definitely lactose intolerant. Perhaps...
