  1. A local chiropractor was really big on N.A.E.T. for a period of time...just the most amazing thing since sliced bread, or so he said. He seems to have abandoned it now, however, and from my observation of his nwespapers ads he sort of drifts from one miracle treatment to another. I had one session with him for the N.A.E.T. and the whole thing seemed quite...
  2. Well, my feeling from my own experience was that I had major and identifiable trouble with dairy my entire life. So finding out I was casein intolerant wasn't a surprise. If you don't have symptoms, it may not be an issue for you. It's not for everyone. My mom had the worse possible, classic case of celiac and nearly died before she was diagnosed....and...
  3. I found this article...kind of thought-provoking overall. After reading the info on celiac and Ireland, and also the link the schizophrenia, I have to wonder about my father in law, who was Irish and schizophrenic. _________ One of the deep mysteries of our time is the question of why, with living standards higher than ever before in history, so...
  4. I took them all back, and now I'm not sure I'll remember them all. I was in the store when I returned them, and I looked at the boxes. Those with wheat were Redness Relief Cream, Stop Signs Eyes, the Repairwear products (eye cream, etc.). The clerk said "All about eyes" also had wheat. So I made the assumption that a lot of them must have it. I could...
  5. Interesting reading for some of you. I'll post the link, too. There are other things on this site. Open Original Shared Link _______________ What are the recommended blood tests to diagnose celiac disease? There is a particular series of blood tests called the ‘Celiac Panel”. These tests measure your immune system’s response to gluten in th...
  6. Clinique...which makes such a big deal out of saying they are free of allergy ingredients...appear to mostly contain some form of wheat. I wrote them, and here's their response: ------------- Thank you for your interest in Clinique. We appreciate the opportunity to explain that we do not have a comprehensive list of products that contain or do not...
  7. My son has lots of allergies. His allergist said we should ALL rotate most foods....don't eat anything every single day, but rather, eat things about every 4 days. He felt this helped prevent developing new sensitivites.
  8. I guess I have to give up my beloved Balance Bars...they have soy and gluten. Does anyone know of any decent tasting protein bars without soy or gluten....or diary?
  9. I have read a million times that women should never eat fewer than 1200 calories per day. Please believe it that you can GAIN weight on low calories. The body is easily triggered into starvation mode where it attempts to store every calorie as fat. Your metabolism shifts into a much slower mode (think of a bear hibernating) and therefore burns even fewer...
  10. I've had dairy issues my whole life....I always figured it was lactose intolerance and I took lactaid frequently when I had dairy...it never seemed to completely help, though. After Enterolab diagnosed me with casein sensitivity, I asked about it and whether you could still eat it, and they told me eating dairy, and thus the casein, could do the same kind...
  11. This is what drives me bonkers...the unpredictibility of reactions. I got my positive lab results back Jan. 18 and my son's birthday was Jan. 19. I made a big white cake for him, and being mad about the lab results I ate SEVERAL pieces of it. No ice cream because I KNOW ice cream will give me trouble. I also ate macaroni and cheese for dinner (my son...
  12. How long did you eat the cranberry juice, turkeym, sweet potatoes and plain rice (white rice???) before you started adding foods back in? Would you add just one food at a time and then wait a day or two...or longer?
  13. WOW...I didn't realize lecithin is actually SOY!! In addition to the gluten and dairy problems, soy and corn don't agree with me either. Not sure about eggs, though. It's really to the point where I think the only "safe" foods are fruits and veggies, certain meats. Nothing prepared or prepackaged. That's a minefield!
  14. You have my total sympathy. I'm working thru all this myself. For 20+ years I've known I had dairy problems, so when my test came back positive for casein sensitivity that didn't surprise me. After dumping dairy from my diet, I tried a substitute soy milk in my cappuccino...and boy did I get sick for a couple of days. I've always known that soy sauce...
  15. One thing that occurred to me reading all these posts is the addictive nature of grain. I believe it's the book "Going Against the Grain" that discusses allergies and sensitivities and additions, particularly with regard to grains. It's very insidious, and once you understand what is going on it will all make more sense. It's strange, but we often get...
  16. I probably won't be much help here because I'm as confused as anyone. I'm beginning to think no one truly understands this whole thing. I read that some doctors/researchers want to eliminate the term celiac disease and just call it all gluten sensitivity. They make it sound like gluten sensitivity CAN lead to celiac disease, which seems to be the defined...
  17. Well, I too am trying to figure out the gene thing. Having one celiac gene and one gluten sensitivity gene and positive for casein sensitivity, and negative to intestinal damage, where to go from here? Enterolab and others recommend that once you are positive and know you have the genes, that you stay firmly gluten (and in my case, casein) free entirely...
  18. Your story is so familiar. Lots of things going on, continually barkinig up the wrong tree, so to speak. But you are HERE, so you are probably on the right track finally. Eventually all the pieces will probably fall into place and you'll realize all roads were leading to one (or more!!) thing. RESPONDING TO YOUR QUESTIONS: 1.) I know self-diagnosis...
  19. I'm very happy with the Enterolab test. I got the test materials about 3 days after ordering, I got the results in 2 weeks, and I'm getting very prompt replies...within a day or two....for all my result interpretation questions. I would NOT use York labs given what I've heard about it.
  20. KATHY....You seem to understand the gene results better than I do. My gene test turned out like yours...one celiac gene and one gluten sensitive gene, one from each parent. My mom has celiac disease so I figure the celiac gene came from her. The gluten sensitivity one is probably (though not necessarily I guess) from my dad, who died in 1989. That was...
  21. 1. Very positive response to diet. 2. Stool test 3. Gene test
  22. That's good to know! Today I returned several Clinique items to Nordstrom's and while there, I was reading the product box labels....I didn't do the DDML lotion but every other darn one I looked at had some type of wheat in it. Since I can't eat soy, I guess I need to avoid products with soy as well. These two items (wheat and soy) really rule out...
  23. I'd like to know what the science is behind eating gluten & weight gain, too. Even before my diagnosis, I definitely knew that eating wheat was bloating. I was on a major exercise program (Body for Life) and no matter how carefully I ate, or how much I exercise, I didn't drop a pound. It was beyond frustrating. I used to joke that if I ate nothing...
  24. My favorite facial soap is Cetaphil liquid. It's just wonderful, and nothing irritating in it. I get it from Costco...$15 or so for two huge pump bottles. That's the best buy I've seen anywhere. In the drugstores etc. it's usually around $12-$13 for ONE bottle. I've used this for years. I may end up having to use Cetaphil lotion, too. Or something...
  25. Even for myself, reactions vary from time to time with dairy. It ranges from very quick (within an hour or less of eating) reactions such as nauseated cramping and D, to gas and upset the next day, or stuffy nose, and occasionally not much of a reaction. For example, I have eaten lots of CHEESECAKE (my biggest food weakness) with not much of a reaction...
