ARCHIVED Not Tested For celiac disease
lonewolf replied to sabrinajanae's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had an ELISA test (blood test for food sensitivities) and it was very helpful. My naturopath did it - it was just a blood draw sent to a lab in N. Carolina. Getting rid of all the offending foods was a huge help to my health. If you have a doctor that knows about the test, go for it. Most insurance won't pay for it though. -

I know someone who is a chemist that has studied the mangostene fruit. He said that there is some validity to the claims of helping with health problems, although they are exaggerated and the stuff is WAY more expensive than it should be. He said the fruit is actually dirt cheap. Some people get good results because it really is helping them, but it is... -
Hurray! Now all I have to do is find a store around here that sells it! I haven't had anything that tastes like a "real" pizza crust for 10 years, and everything else that I've seen has eggs or dairy. Thanks!

ARCHIVED Not Tested For celiac disease
lonewolf replied to sabrinajanae's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sabrina, Only eating gluten for 2 weeks wouldn't be long enough for positive tests. I've never been "officially" diagnosed with anything other than "colitis" and IBS, but a wheat-free, gluten-free diet helped me tremendously when I started it several years ago. (I also had to cut out eggs, dairy and soy.) I had never heard of Celiac or gluten intolerance... -
ARCHIVED I'm A Celiac For Attention

She's the "other" sister-in-law, not married to that BIL, and she was at work and missed the party. The SIL who's married to that BIL (this is all hubby's family) is dingy enough that she believed him when he told me he didn't put in the crumbs. -
Before I get my hopes up - does it have eggs, dairy or soy?
-
Hope your MRI goes well. I'll be saying a prayer for you.
-
Judy, that's HORRIBLE! I'm so sorry that happened to you - especially on Easter. I hope the rest of your day went better.

I'm glad we're stuck with you. You make the board a more interesting place.

ARCHIVED First Loaf Of Bread
lonewolf replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sadly, I'm to the point where I wonder why people think the Ener-g rice bread tastes bad. It tastes good to me after all these years. Especially grilled with garlic butter! -
Hey Vincent, I'm just wondering if you'll leave us if you are "only" dairy intolerant? Will we have to look for you someplace like Casein.com?

ARCHIVED First Loaf Of Bread
lonewolf replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wish I could be more of a help, but the only advice I can offer is to try the gluten-free Pantry French Bread and Pizza mix, substitute for the eggs and bake them in muffin tins for "rolls". They turn out better with eggs, but they're edible without. I think the best egg-free ones were using plain gelatin and Ener-G egg replacer. I've been trying this... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Handle The Question "oh, I'd Die If I Couldn't Eat ____________."
lonewolf replied to steveindenver's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have used a simple, "Well, I might be dead now if I hadn't stopped eating that stuff." Then I give a very serious look that says I'm telling the truth. -
ARCHIVED First Cause Of Autoimmunity?
lonewolf replied to SurreyGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
We had the same thing happen at our school earlier this year and last spring. Almost all of the kids who came down with chicken pox had been vaccinated. Kids, like mine, who had all had them when they were younger, didn't. One boy got them FROM THE VACCINE when his mom took him in. My mom swears I never had them, I don't remember ever having them, but... -
Welcome! I'm glad you found us. I too am sorry for all the losses you have endured already. As for having children, I had 3 before I found out I was gluten intolerant (never been diagnosed "officially" but the diet test was pretty convincing). My 11 year old son is also gluten intolerant for whatever reason. I'm sure glad I have him, as well as my...

ARCHIVED Daughter Has The Big "d" Tonight
lonewolf replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Nini - did she eat anything with marshmallows in it? I know that TCA's son did the other day. I'm just asking because my daughter, who doesn't have gluten problems, has broken out in an itchy rash twice before and we traced it to marshmallows both times. She's had them since without problems, but I always wondered what might be in them to do that. Now... -
Once in a while I'll have a dream where I'm eating something gluten-full and yummy and then realize what I'm doing and panic. Then I usually wake up.

ARCHIVED Elizabeth Hasselhoff - The View
lonewolf replied to Lisa's topic in Publications & Publicity
Whoa baby! Calm down. You don't need to "defend yourself". It takes a lot more than a comment on a Celiac message board to offend me. Like I said, I don't care for Angelina in the slightest, but she has raised awareness of the plight of children all over the world that need homes. I simply asked you to be sensitive - there are many people on this board... -
Prayers for you, with tears in my eyes. So sorry the news wasn't what you were hoping for.

Welcome! Hope we can be of help to you!

I know you're being funny, and I'm not offended - but please be careful and sensitive about what you joke about. I have an adopted son from overseas (he needed a home just as badly as any child in the US) and I have friends who just adopted 2 from Ethiopia. I don't care for Angelina Jolie one little bit, but her splash on the media with her adoptions has... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test For Kindeys?
lonewolf replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm not Jeannie, but FSGS stands for Focal and Segmental GlomeruloSclerosis. The kidney disease I have can turn into that in some people, so I try to take really good care of myself. I found this on a nephrology website: Focal means that some glomeruli are affected but not others Segmental affecting only a segment of each glomerulus that is involved... -
ARCHIVED Okay, All You Fabulous Cooks!
lonewolf replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think that salt free is harder than gluten-free. I have kidney problems and am supposed to be careful about my salt intake. I've been on salt-free before. I ate a lot of grilled chicken, marinated in olive oil and balsamic vinegar, grilled fish, grilled vegetables, plain rice, baked or boiled sweet potatoes, baked potatoes, sodium free rice cakes with... -
Poor little guy - I hope he's feeling better soon.
