  1. Perhaps keeping a food diary (writing down every single thing you ingest) might help? It has helped me many times. It has even helped me SIX YEARS after being diagnosed and going gluten free!! Good luck!
  2. Awwwww thanks you guys! I am doing the Happy Dance! And fingers crossed for more answers...
  3. Over my 6 gluten-free years, I have endured this "Starving Syndrome" several times. Actually, I have lost count. I am 5'4" and frequently eat more than my 6'4" husband. My weight has gone from a low of 93 lbs. to my current high of 105 lbs. I eat as much as I possibly can. I agree about the fats helping me to feel full. I'm beginning to test out...
  4. Update on my progress: 1. By thorough and consistent evaluation of my food diary (every item ingested for 6 years); I've finally figured out that both dairy and nightshades cause me PAIN! I had tried eliminating these previously; but it was no help. I tried again anyway...and IT WORKED!! Maybe because I'm healthier now? Never was lactose intolerant...
  5. Posterboy, Many, many thanks for providing such complete information. Your efforts won't go to waste. I will look into each item you mentioned. Not sure the iodine is an issue as I no longer have a thyroid. And too much iodine can aggravate my intermittent rashes. (Never was tested for DH. Didn't see the point as I was already diagnosed with...
  6. Ender, I just want to say that I COMPLETELY understand your situation! I have no tips for you. Just letting you know that it is NOT just you having these issues.
  7. psawyer, I agree with your statement that "We cannot guarantee" is a legal disclaimer that carries little meaning for us. I also pay little or no attention to it. As usual, my post was not stated clearly. :-( I spent years eating at Frisch's in NW Ohio. There is gluten everywhere; and more importantly to me, their employees appear to be poorly...
  8. Melissa, that really stinks!! Something very similar happened to my husband at a major teaching hospital, no less. I know everybody makes mistakes; but YIKES! We couldn't believe it when it happened to us either. It's REALLY unnerving! Makes you very skeptical of doctors--or anybody. It messes with your trust of others. Not a pleasant thing, especially...
  9. Frisch's! I used to LOVE Frisch's! And I really loved that sauce. But...if you look on their website, you'll see a big disclaimer saying they CANNOT guarantee against cross-contamination with gluten. Nope, I absolutely would not eat anything from that gluten-filled environment. Sorry... Sadly, I think your Frisch's days are over--just like mine...
  10. Yes, I have heard others praise this cookbook; but I was reluctant to believe them. But I believe YOU!! I'm ordering it tomorrow. Yea! Thanks!! Ian, we haven't forgotten about you! One week to go! Now you can count down every day by saying. "This is the LAST Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, etc.!" Seven days! You can make it 7 days!
  11. I do know exactly how you feel! Been there. Wow, you got a bad one! I believe there is a significant percentage of people who choose to become a physician for the $$$$$$, the prestige, and the power/control. Why do I believe this? Because I worked in a teaching hospital and heard the medical students and residents voice these reasons (clearly or...
  12. Nope. Rest easy. You never have to see any of us and we'll never see you! Ha! Feel free to unburden yourself! (Really sorry about all the stuff you're dealing with.) That's the beauty of this site. ;-) Yes! One of the unexpected benefits of Celiac, for me, is a brand new appreciation for whole foods. Can't much stand processed foods anymore...
  13. Bartfull, I know your post was not meant for me; but I just had to tell you. Reading your posts always makes me feel SO good! You have a real knack for demonstrating your open, loving heart. You've quite a gift.
  14. I'm pretty sure you can relax about being at the "old age of 28" at diagnosis. I was 60. There are people on this site who were older than me who got well. Now, for us, it usually does take longer. Years. I've not heard of a Celiac having your issue with alcohol. Maybe somebody else will come along who knows. Welcome to the site!
  15. I really hope I didn't offend you when I referred to you as the "Energizer Bunny".  It was meant as a compliment.  I wish I had your energy!!!

No offense even taken!  I am glad that I have the energy I have now.  I recall being barely able to breathe easily and had to give up square dancing because it was too exhausting due to severe anemia.   It is not the same energy I had in earlier decades, but I will take it!

  16. Ian, NO wonder you're having a tough time right now! Yikes! That's a LOT to deal with in LESS than 6 months! See. You really need to give yourself a break. Only a robot wouldn't be having difficulty with all this stuff. And who wants to be a robot?! (I know. Sometimes I wish I were a robot too.) Seriously, I think you're doing an admirable job...
  17. See. You haven't lost your ability to think creatively nor your sense of humor! But...it is completely OK if you do! You don't need to feel pressured to "perform" for us. We will support you and like you even if you become cranky and depressed! On this site, you only need to be yourself. Totally, and honestly yourself. Warts and all. You don't have...
  18. Ian, I can, most definitely, relate to your suffering! Celiac can do really CRAZY stuff to some of us! You aren't alone. My advice is to baby yourself as much as possible. Love yourself as well as you love others. Keep reminding yourself that this nasty state you're in is TEMPORARY! Keep your eyes on the goal. Be gentle with yourself. Give yourself...
  19. LOVE your sense of humor! I have found that maintaining a good sense of humor can defeat a LOT of ills. Keep it up!
  20. Many thanks to all respondents! I admire your collective indomitable spirits! (Cycling lady, do your friends call you E.B.? Your pic should be in the dictionary after "Energizer Bunny"!) I've been focusing on exercise (dance, weights, yoga, tai chi, meditation). It is only during theses times that I actually feel GOOD! Doesn't last long; but I enjoy...
  21. Thanks for sharing. You have made some great suggestions. I plan to ask about the tests I haven't had at my 2 appointments next month (1 with GI and 1 with internist). I think I do remember feeling better when I also took Cytomel (T3) in addition to levothyroxine. I had completely forgotten about that! Duh--Celiac brain. (It's tough to be "on your...
  22. Icelandgirl, Thank you so much for your kind words and suggestions! Yes, the thyroid! I keep forgetting about the thyroid. And I do have Graves Disease (diagnosed 2 years before the Celiac). They regularly test my TSH and T4. However, it has been years since they tested my T3. Maybe I should have T3 tested? Do you know of any other thyroid...
  23. Wow, you have been busy! Good luck with your new country!
  24. Frieze, thanks for your suggestion. Been there. Done that. I've tried eliminating everything other than water! I know everyone says to eliminate things till symptoms go away. My symptoms got better but never went away. My current approach is to add stuff back and hope the new variety will be helpful. It can't hurt (as long as symptoms don't get...
  25. Squirmingitch, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!! ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!! I am going to print what you said (as soon as we replace our printer that just now broke-HA!), and literally post it on my frig! I can see that when I "beat myself up", it also takes a huge toll on my husband. He would do anything to help me. I got VERY lucky in the husband department....
