  1. Why did you think that Coca Cola is gluten free? It's not labeled gluten free in the USA, is it there? The formula for big brands like that can be different in different countries. Anything with caramel coloring can be derived from wheat, so it would not be gluten free. Unless it is labeled gluten free, I would not put it in my body. According to the manufacturer...
  2. I hadn't thought of that for this poor person, but you may be onto something. I have cut out all grains except for corn tortillas, and feel I'm doing much better. Each person is so different in what they can tolerate. I have watched a lot of the youtube's by another guy that talks about some with Celiac's not getting improvements until they totally...
  3. As soon as I was diagnosed and went gluten free, I dropped 30 lbs in a month!!! For me it was all inflammation. I was emaciated underneath the swelling. It's taking me almost 2 years to build back up to feeling strong again. Now I'm lean and mean at 60.
  4. I have also found that explaining that it's like a peanut allergy ... even the tiniest amount sets off the reaction. The reaction may not be anaphalactic (spelling?) like it is with a peanut allergy, but with gluten, the reaction is on your insides. People have heard so much about peanut allergies, they can somehow relate to celiac's being more serious...
  5. Acid reflux and a rise in the diastolic of my blood pressure are my usual symptoms when I've been glutened. I don't get the so-called typical symptoms. One time it was that I was taking care of the neighbors chickens while they were on vacation, and I was inhaling dust from filling up their food feeder. The last time was taking a gluten free supplement recommended...
  6. HOME RENOVATION? Did you inhale dust from cutting any kind of manufactured wood product like plywood or any drywall? These are glued products, these glues can be wheat derived, and if you inhaled any of the dust ...
  7. You can't be sure any food prepared at anybody else's home is safe for you unless you are standing over them and watching every step. The ingredients can all be safe, but it could be the prep methods, tools used, or what it was cooked on, etc. etc. etc. I skipped out on the family Thanksgiving, ate at home by myself, because at the last minute I found out...
  8. My first reaction is that he told them that so that there would be no chance of cross contamination with the preparation of his food along with yours. If you've ever worked in the restaurant biz, dishes for the same table are prepared at the same time, depending what it is, by the same person. Maybe he was just thinking of you, not trying to claim anything...
  9. You're breaking my heart with how much I felt just like you are saying ... the whole death sentence thing, just a matter of time ... futile ... that poison gluten is EVERYWHERE, no control!!! But it's been almost a year and a half for me since diagnosis, and I must say I don't feel most of that anymore. I think it takes a lot of time for you to figure out...
  10. I also want to pipe in about the sausages ... it's not just the ingredients that all have to be gluten free, but the processing of them. I used to make my own sausages, and people usually clean them out by grinding through several slices of bread. If the grinder has EVER been used with any gluten ingredients, then it is contaminated and not safe to make food...
  11. I had previously reported problems with Bob's Red Mill gluten-free oats and museli. I then tried Purely Elizabeth certified gluten free oats, which also caused reactions for me. So lucky me, I am special, I must be in the small percent that cannot tolerate oats.
  12. I was taking a supplement that the naturopath thought was gluten free, although not labeled as such. I started feeling yucky only after A MONTH of taking it! It was the only new thing I was taking, so got suspicious. I did my own research and found that the manufacturer claims no gluten ingredients, although there is wheat processed at the facility. Within...
  13. Now this is sounding more and more similar to my experience. The question my naturopath would be asking is what is the root cause of super high histamines in your body so that anything else that you eat or are exposed to has such a severe reaction. I had tested super high for candida albicans antibodies. I really didn't start feeling a lot better after...
  14. I used to get an itchey feeling in my mouth, and sometimes my throat would close up, after eating many unpeeled fruits and vegetables. I wouldn't get irritated and angry, but did get that feeling in my mouth. There is something called "Oral Allergy Syndrome." I don't seem to have the problem since going gluten free. A test would be to peel an apple...
  15. Some of the problems you are having may or may not be related to Celiac's. You may also have a problem with a bone in your neck or something there being out of place, which could cause the tingling and numbness in fingers and hands. Have you heard of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome? You might want to read about it and compare your symptoms. Not to throw more ideas...
  16. Make sure the doc is doing the full celiac panel for any blood testing ... my sister's doc only tested 2 things, didn't even do the control test, so all her tests came back negative but she's got more symptoms than I do! -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTG) IgG -Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and (DGP) IgG -EMA IgA -total serum...
  17. Your eyes, ears, nose, and mouth all drain down the same place to your stomach. So if loose flour gets in the air and you inhale it, that would be the same as eating it.
  18. Also like 'cyclinglady' I found I feel the best with more of a whole foods, paleo style diet. At my local library, I can search a huge catalog for the entire county library system and request Paleo and Gluten Free cookbooks from other libraries in the system, and they send them to my library and I just go pick them up. So that way I've not had to purchase...
  19. I dropped 30 lbs in about a month after going gluten free, it was several pounds a day at first, then slowed to about a pound a day, then a pound a week. Underneath the inflammation I was an emaciated woman with bone and muscle loss, a real sagging drawn face and felt like crap. I also had bad deficiencies in B vitamins and thyroid, so work with a good...
  20. Also candida albicans can set into the intestines to those with Celiacs, and cause a lot of issues. I tested high (blood test antigen testing), and after going on a protocol of a rotation of different herbs (garlic, oregano oil, grapefruit seed extract, etc.) and keeping sugar intake down, it cleared up and I felt better than I had in decades. I would suggest...
  21. I also felt like I had been hit by a bus the first 1 1/2 months after going gluten free, like I had a bad flu but without the stuffed up nose and cough. Various deficiencies are common due to the malabsorbtion from Celiacs. Also I dropped 30 lbs of water weight inflammation, which probably released a lot of toxins that my body had to eliminate. I actually...
  22. I avoid all chips and deep fried items unless I am absolutely sure they are being made in a gluten-free dedicated fryer. It's not only the ingredients you have to be concerned about, it's the surfaces and such. So if something is fried in oil that previously fried something with gluten, it's contaminated and a no no.
  23. And keep eating that gluten until all that testing is complete!!!
  24. I lost 30 lbs within a month after going gluten free. It was all inflammation! I do not believe it was because my metabolism suddenly revved up, I believe it was water weight from the inflammation, my doctor concurs. My doc said he has had Celiac's who lost over 300 lbs after going gluten free!!! Due to the malabsorbtion caused by Celiac's, underneath I...
  25. I would caution getting any cheese cut at the deli counter. They could have previously cut something else with a flavoring that does contain gluten (I confirmed this with the people working behind the deli counter, that they do cut some things that are not gluten free on the same machines, although they do wipe the machines down regularly). I just find it...
