ARCHIVED Kinnikinnick
StrongerToday replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love the white sandwich bread - I think it's the best I've had yet! The K-Too's (like an Oreo) disappeared in my house, they were so good. I also ordered donuts, but haven't tried one yet. I'll definitely order again, and I think their shipping/handling prices were very reasonable. Hope you've got a big freezer! -
The Dr. warned me if I did have too much yeast in my GI tract, the Diflucan would make things worse before it got better. Too True! I had the weirdest D the first week or so of taking it. As it's killing off the yeast - there's only one place for it to go . I'll spare you the details, but I feel pretty confident that it did it's job.

When I started this whole "what's wrong with me" quest, one of the things my Dr. suggested was a GI yeast overgrowth. He put me on Diflucan, one every other day, for 4 weeks. Wow - did I have some "die-off" - but obviously it was working. I also take an Acidophilus supplement twice a day and I take NOW brand Candida Clear (Cleanse maybe?) with dinner....

ARCHIVED Are There Any gluten-free Protein/energy Bars?
StrongerToday replied to CeliacMother's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know about these brands. I eat Lara bars which state they are gluten and dairy free. -
ARCHIVED Looking For Soy/dairy/gluten Free Recipes/foods?
StrongerToday replied to kimber's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I got a cookbook for x-mas called Cooking Free - for people with multiple food allergies. Recipies are without soy (mostly), no gluten, dairy free, egg free and low or no sugar. Looks tasty! -
ARCHIVED Overweight And Celiacs
StrongerToday replied to krackers's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was grossly overweight, topping the scale at over 200 (and I'm very short!). I've now lost 44 pounds. I think both the excess weight and the gluten intolerence are/were a result of poor eating habits. Too much fast food, pre-packaged food, frozen entrees.... (sigh - still miss that Stouffers!). I'm not even trying to loose weight - it's just coming... -
[quote Well, I had an eye-opener this weekend. I realized I do not sweat nearly as much at other places. My husband and I went away for the weekend for our anniversary and I didn't sweat at all. I had noticed this too when I visited my sister, in-laws etc. Got back Sunday night to our place and sweat horribly.

ARCHIVED Who's From Michigan?
StrongerToday replied to StrongerToday's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
There are lots of places you can get some help, including this board. Read a lot of messages; post a lot of questions. There is no question too personal or gross (see some of the "poop" threads if you don't believe me!). Locally, I know there's a Lansing area group and a Tri-County group - I don't have the addresses off the top of my head but I"m sure... -
ARCHIVED Will I Ever Feel Better?
StrongerToday replied to ebrbetty's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
One more thought: if the breads you bought were made out of bean flour that could be causing you some trouble too! I had a couple slices of bean flour bread and it was like "watch out" I use rice bread, just got my first loaf from kinnikinnick - and it's great! It's also dairy free! I also get bread from Celiac Specalties bakery. Both places ship... -
ARCHIVED Will I Ever Feel Better?
StrongerToday replied to ebrbetty's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I put in a little bit of Almond Milk in my smoothies for some extra calcium. If you're using soy or rice milk, be sure to read the labels - surprisingly some do have Gluten in them. I remember I called Rolaids and the regular ones are fine, the soft chews aren't. Tums have trace amounts of gluten I was told. Pepcid, I think, is fine. I also took... -
ARCHIVED Will I Ever Feel Better?
StrongerToday replied to ebrbetty's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My first suggestion would be to make sure that you are totally gluten free. Check your lotions, medicines/vitamins, shampoos, everything. When I first heard that, I remember thinking "yea, right!" but sure enough - it was in my shampoo, hair spray and foot lotion. Who'd have thunk it??? Everyone seems to have different time lines. I started feeling... -
ARCHIVED Elisa Tests Question
StrongerToday replied to arial12bold's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think it depends on the individual. The one thing I've learned for sure is that everyone is different and everyone will have different reactions to different things. That's why you need to keep a personal log and I strongly urge you to consult a professional nutritionist or dietician. Personally, I don't eat a lot of tomatoes - although I do have ketchup... -
ARCHIVED Birth Control Pills
StrongerToday replied to GlutenFreeAl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know that Seasonal and Kirvia (sp?) are gluten-free too. -
ARCHIVED Elisa Tests Question
StrongerToday replied to arial12bold's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just keep a detailed record of foods and medications I ate and when, and I also keep a symptom log (i.e. headache, "D", etc.). Sometimes it helps to go back and say "gee, whenever I eat XXX I get a headache". If you've got access to a dietitician, they'll be able to help you with this too. My dietitician recommended I go to a basic diet (rice, plain... -
ARCHIVED Intermittant Flu Like Aches With Celiac?
StrongerToday replied to hollyd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I *always* felt like I was coming down with the flu! Now that I look back, I remember many missed days of work or social events because I was sure I was getting sick. I'd go to bed early, and wake up the next day better. Now I know better - my "a -ha" moment as Oprah would say! -
ARCHIVED Did You Know Someone With Celiac
StrongerToday replied to carriecraig's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Many years ago I worked with a woman and both she and her daughter are Celiac. I remember thinking "how weird". I also worked with a woman who was allergic to citric acid, which is in almost everything! At my current position, there are two other people who are gluten intolerent - that I know of anyway. -
ARCHIVED Elisa Tests Question
StrongerToday replied to arial12bold's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had the full panel run by Great Smokies lab. My dr. was amazed at how low I scored (meaning I could eat most foods). But frankly, in hindsight I don't think I'd pay to get the tests done. I think it's more accurate to keep a detailed food log and see how your body is reacting. Maybe some other people have had better luck, but to me it's just an expensive... -
ARCHIVED Self-diagnosed, Looking For Help Understanding..
StrongerToday replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm one of the ones who went to the dr. thinking I needed something major done (gallbladder?) and his first statement was "these sound like food intolerences". What? Wou want me to stop eating gluten and diary foods??? Wouldn't gallbladder sugery be easier? It was hard (still is some days) and I was doing great until the holidays. Then things started... -
ARCHIVED The Wrong Anti-depressant?
StrongerToday replied to StrongerToday's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thank you for your feedback. I will say (which I have put in earlier posts, so skip this one if you're read my history before) that I"ve been working w/ my dr. since August on this. He was the one to suggest a gluten free/dairy free diet to see if that would help my symptoms of constant D, fatigue, etc. He did run a full blood panel which all came up incredibly... -
ARCHIVED Anti-depressants?
StrongerToday replied to StrongerToday's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, Paxil doesn't seem to be my friend... jitters, headache and I'm more sick to my stomach now then I ever was - including pregnancy! I called my dr who had my cut my dosage, but still no luck. So tomorrow I try Lexapro... I've heard good things about it... keep your fingers crossed! -
ARCHIVED Looking For A Lab
StrongerToday replied to Claire's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can try Great Smokies at www.gsdl.com. I had them run a food sensitivies panel, which came back saying I was not sensitive to a lot of foods. In hindsight I wouldn't have paid for the tests (although my insurance did reimburse me half of the cost)... I'm learning that my body tells me what I should or shouldn't eat, not a piece of paper. -
Try and relax. Walking is good for the GI system, so I try to walk and drink lots of water. I try not to take Pepto or Immodium unless absolutely necessary, my opinion is that it's better to get it out of my system. I also love turning my electric blanket on "high" and crawling into bed. It'll get better!! Oh, and I did the same thing with...

My dr. started me on Paxil this past Friday for anxiety. While I don't expect an over-night cure, I have to say I feel like poop! I'm achey, nervous, foggy headed and my stomach is super upset... I've got a call into him, but I'm just wondering how long you have to give it until you know this isn't the right one?

ARCHIVED Depression And Sleep Deprivation
StrongerToday replied to Tutahl75's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I completely understand, and I wish I had some advice - but I'm in the same boat you are. I went GFDF in August and felt amazing... up until Thanksgiving. Then "life" happened (work, illnesses, etc.) and for the past four weeks I have been comletely wrapped in anxiety. I've been waking up around 4:00 every day which is so not helping! I've been on Ambien... -
ARCHIVED Progresso Soups
StrongerToday replied to gymnastjlf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like the Chicken Wild Rice in the microwave container - perfect to keep in my desk at work. I did call Progresso and was assured it was gluten free and any products containing wheat would be clearly labeled.
