  1. But it doen't have to be. I've lost the weight because for once I am eating healthy meals all the time. I'm a single mom who relied way too much on fast food, frozen dinners, pre-packaged meals... (although I would practically sell my soul for a Pizza Hut pizza right now). Also, because I wasn't feeling well most of the time, I was never exercising, or...
  2. I wonder if you can't talk to your supervisor and/or H.R. person? And I can promise that while none of us jumped up and down at the thought of being on a gluten free (and some are soy free, sugar free, dairy free, corn free, potato free...) diet we are all greatful to know how we can feel better. It's not called the "gluten free CHALLENGE" for nothing...
  3. I'm not sure where you live - but you should see if you do have a Wild Oats, Trader Joes, Whole Foods or Hillers, or "natural food store" near you. Trader Joes is much cheaper on cereal, nut butters, milk alternatives, etc. I've also found some things (but not bread) at my local Kroger and Meijer stores. You may also want to try some on-line ordering...
  4. I found Buckwheat (which is not wheat!) Maple Flakes, pretty good.
  5. 1) NO 2) mild (very mild) 3) chicken 4) yes (rarely - but yes) 5) oven 6) 2 -3 servings (enough for me, my daughter and lunch tomorrow)
  6. I lucked out - my mom's best friend and neighbor is a registered dietician who's daughter has Celiac. She was very helpful in the beginning, recommending books and products. We've never talked about minerals and vitamins, other than her recommending that I take a multi-vitamin (which I had been doing). Al, I'm not sure where you live - but I would...
  7. My blood tests came back "perfectly normal", but I'm having positive dietary response being gluten free and dairy free. I used to have D daily, enormous stomach pains (like I was digesting glass), brain fog and I was very achey a lot. The best way for me to describe it was it was like just starting the flu, but almost every day. That's no way to be!! ...
  8. Yep, me too!
  9. Thanks for the feedback. I think I'm going to give it a try. Even if it will help me with other possible allergies, or if nothing else just reduce my anxiety, then it might be worth it. I have not been diagnosed with Celiac, in fact - all of my bloodwork came back "absolutely perfect". And yes, even if I could just have the occasional piece of pizza...
  10. My dr. warned me that if I did have a lot of yeast in my GI tract that taking the Diflucan will make this worse in the beginning - but that means it's working. He also told me to take it every other day, unless things got bad then I should skip a day or two until I felt I was ready. Basically it gave me horrible D, pretty urgent, a lot at at time and (sorry...
  11. I just got back from visiting my chiropracter who is also a certified N.A.E.T. therapist. She feels that because I appear to have a wheat/gluten intolerence, not Celiac, that doing a NAET therapy would be helpful. On the one hand I think "what a bunch of bologna", but.... what if it would help? Even if I can't eat a loaf of bread, would it help ward off...
  12. Try Lara bars, pretty tasty too!
  13. I admit to tearing up at their commercial... sniff sniff...
  14. If I had to do it all over again, I'd save my money. I'm working with a dietician and she even said to me "save your money, do an elmination diet and see what foods you react to... it's just a piece of paper". Well, of course, I HAD to know what was wrong with me - surely this magical piece of paper could tell me, right? It came back that I'm every so...
  15. All of my blood work came back negative, my doctor said it looked "perfect". He also urged me to listen to my body instead of a piece of paper. I've been GFDF since August, and while have had some bad days, my GI symptoms are much improved. I also had constant D, sharp pains in my stomach (like I was digesting glass) and I could hear my stomach gurgle...
  16. I use L'Oreal and here is a list that they sent me of ingredients to watch out for: Thank you for your interest in L'Oréal Paris products. The following list of ingredients that are used in our products, are those that contain wheat and other grains. This list may also be used by the celiac patient to identify gluten-containing ingredients. This ...
  17. I always had the opposite problem, I had the big D constantly and yes, they looked sandy. Usually the first tip is to be sure everything is gluten free. I found wheat in my shampoo (in 3 different forms!), hairspray and foot lotion. Check your medicines too. You may also want to look for other food intolerences - soy, corn, etc. I'd recommend keeping...
  18. I'm with BERNESES on this one! While I'm enjoying my healthier life-style (and the near 50 lbs I've lost from it) it would be worth it, even if I still couldn't eat gluten foods, not to be so paranoid about every little stinking crumb. And maybe, just maybe, a slice of real pizza once in while (whine)
  19. My father has type II diabetes and thyroid issues (his was removed 5 years ago). His mother also had her thyroid blow up to the size of an orange but refused to see a dr. My cousin has Chron's (she's on the other side of my family).
  20. Don't forget nut milks too. I get the Blue Diamond Almond MIlk. They also have a vanilla version too. I just made my first bath of French Toast since August and dang was it tasty
  21. I haven't read the "Bible" but I did read Against The Grain. For the most part I enjoyed it, although I did disagree with some of the info. However if I were stranded and straving - maybe i would be forced to eat just the middle of a sandwich??? (Hey, how about a new Worst Case Scenario - Gluten Free and Stranded???) You may want to read either of her...
  22. Really the best way to test for these foods is to eliminate them from your diet, then add back one thing at at a time and watch for reactions. It also may be that you can tolerate some corn or soy - but not a lot of it. I do have soy, but try to avoid it if I can. Also - some days seem to be different for me... I used to eat a lot of apples, suddenly they...
  23. Everyone is different and has different reactions. Corn can be hard to process. Did you check your soy milk for gluten - there *are* brands that contain gluten. You might also have trouble with soy. I drink almond milk. I would suggest taking your diet down to a few basics (rice, meat, simple veggies) for a week or so. Slowly add back in one thing at...
  24. I called Ganeden Labs on the Digestive Advantage, they were very helpful and assured me the product was gluten free.
  25. I've really lost my sweet tooth. Which is good and bad, but now when I do have something sweet I totally feel the sugar rush/crash. OTOH - I'm down 46 lbs, hard to complain
