  1. Good luck to you! I wish I could trade with you and lose weight. When I eat gluten I am starving all of the time.
  2. Hello, Welcome. Does your pediatrician know a lot about Celiac and autoimmune conditions? Perhaps find a good pediatric GI doctor in your area who knows about these conditions. If you have no idea how to find one, I suggest you go to your local children's hospital and see who they have on staff there. I work at a children's hospital and we have...
  3. When i was going through the diagnosis, I was anxious too. After i was diagnosed my anxiety went down a lot. I feel like anxiety is greater in regards to the unknown, once I learned what I was dealing with my anxiety improved. I'm very anxious about all of this celiac business, very anxious that it isn't celiac and I'll be at square one again, but on the...
  4. Hello, I'm in the midst of being tested for Celiac. I tested negative on the celiac tests that my doctor ran, it wasn't a full panel, it was 3 tests. I did test positive for the HLA DQ8 gene on the genetic panel. I am getting an EGD with biopsies and colonoscopy in January. I have a rash, I wonder if it is DH, but it seems to have a different...
  5. I was really scared too. I think what we read is worst case scenario. I was worried about being on a lifetime of steroids. I have never been on steroids for this. My AIH goes into remission on it's own. I know I'm having a flare because I lose tons of weight (literally a pound a day), and have joint pain. I was diagnosed via liver biopsy, I had fibrosis...
  6. Bluepumpkin, I suggest you talk to your pediatrician. I'm a nurse at a children's hospital and at your age most doctors treat their patients like adults. It sounds like you need a GI consult. Good luck!
  7. I'm sorry you're experiencing this. I have Autoimmune Hepatitis and it's not the terrible horrible no good life changer I thought it would be. I just want you to know that I'm here if you need anything.
  8. Call your PCP and talk to them. I'm a nurse and I feel that I get a little professional courtesy from my doctor, hopefully you do too. There is a list of the proper tests, there are 5-6 of them. I went to the first appointment with my GI doctor in the middle of November and she's the one who ordered the genetic testing.
  9. Hi and welcome, I'm in the process of figuring out what's going on in my life too. I know the feeling you get of stuff stuck in your throat, I call it a hairball, because that's what it feels like to me, a big lump, it drives me crazy because while it doesn't necessarily hurt, it's uncomfortable and not something I can ignore. Can you get in with...
  10. Hopefully you will get some answers after your scopes. It's frustrating.
  11. I know what can cause the palpitations. Anemia causes heart palpitations, Red Blood Cells carry Oxygen through your blood stream. When you are anemic, you don't have enough red blood cells so you aren't getting enough oxygen around your body. Your heart will beat faster in an attempt to spread what you have around your body. The anemia in celiac disease...
  12. I've not been diagnosed (I'm getting biopsies in January), and I'm not certain I have celiac disease, but I do feel I am experiencing some reactions to gluten. What tests did you get? I have a lot of the same symptoms you have. My palpitations are attributed to chronic iron deficiency anemia and my reflux is from my hiatal hernia.
  13. Good luck getting your results, at least you'll know what you're dealing with!
  14. I'm not sure if I've offended someone, or if nobody comes around these parts, but I feel kind of snubbed. Maybe there's a different forum where people are active? I did a search of these forums for what I'm looking for, but I haven't found it on this site. I'm sorry if I'm annoying for asking the same question that has been asked before, but I thought...
  15. Hi, I'm no expert, but I do know about the HLA DQ2 and HLA DQ8 because I just got my results for those and have been trying to look for answers. These tests are genetic markers for celiac disease. If both were negative, your GI doc would have eliminated celiac disease as a potential cause of your problem. Mine are opposite results, my HLA DQ8 is positive...
  16. Hi, I'm no expert, and I haven't been diagnosed. I am a nurse and I think that if it's possible that you should get the celiac testing done so that you know if gluten is causing your symptoms. It may be celiac or gluten, but it may be something else and it would be a shame for you to live longer feeling bad than you need to.
  17. Hello, I was here a bit in October when I was confused about some symptoms I was experiencing. I thought maybe Celiac, but hoped not. My doctor ran a celiac panel, which I realize now wasn't a full panel, she ran 3 tests, which were negative. She told me that I could still have Celiac and sent me to a GI doctor for a consult. I was happy the day...
  18. Good morning, I have a quick question. Yesterday afternoon and through the night, I had a warm sensation going down the outside of my right leg. It didn't hurt nor did it impair my mobility. Has anyone had a similar experience? It's gone now, I was very stressed over the weekend, so thought perhaps it had to do with that.
  19. I went to my doctor today. It was a follow up to recheck a CBC, I was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia last summer (hemoglobin 10.4 and ferritin 4). When I made the appointment I said that I'd like to talk about some GI symptoms I've had. We talked about my symptoms, my autoimmune hepatitis and my iron deficiency anemia and she said she would run...
  20. Hi, I'm no expert, but I would say that a weak positive is still a positive. How long have you had gluten back in your diet? How much gluten did you eat in the weeks leading up to your blood test? I hope someone with more knowledge comes along soon.
  21. Ask for a copy of the results of your testing. You may be positive but your doctor doesn't believe in it. I believe that is the first place to start. I'm getting up on my soap box again..... You are the consumer, medicine is a business, you are in charge as it's your money and your body. If your cell phone wasn't working, and had all the symptoms of a...
  22. I'm a nurse and I'm currently getting my master's in Health Care Administration. I just spent 7 weeks studying the US healthcare system and I don't understand why we accept less than our money's worth from our doctors. There is no reason you should feel like this, you are the consumer and if you are symptomatic and request testing "no" and "I've never heard...
  23. Hello, I'm new here too, I'm not getting tested for another week to make sure I eat enough gluten before my test. I just wanted to say that I"m glad you are getting retested. It sounds like you have a great doctor who listens to you.
  24. I was just coming back to say that I think I have ulcers or something, because my nausea is still there, but my mouth feels better. I'm eating bread at dinner every day until my appointment, but trying to cut the gluten containing products out of my other meals. I wonder if I have a wheat allergy, because I get the itchy inner ears and lips and mouth symptoms...
  25. Thank you, Squirm, I didn't eat gluten today just because I wanted to see if there was a difference. It feels so good not to walk around nauseous with my mouth watering all day, I will eat gluten with dinner tonight.
