  1. My tolerance for alchol is also extremely low since going gluten-free. It seems as though the longer my body has had time to heal, the less alcohol it takes to get me tipsy. Wine seems to be especially potent for me.
  2. Does anyone know if the autolyzed yeast extract in some of Progresso's soups is gluten free? Thanks in advance for any info.
  3. Most Lame Advertisement lotions are gluten free and they don't contain lanolin (which, believe it or not, is a common skin irritant). My SIL is/was a consultant and she checked with them on gluten content and she came back to me with a big list of gluten-free products. I wish I still had it.
  4. I'm sure a lot of you have already seen this, but I thought I'd post it anyway, just in case. I thought it looked neat, especially since celiac disease tends to make children feel so alienated and alone. I hope this hopes someone feel "not-so-alone" today. Open Original Shared Link
  5. What about plain, unseasoned peices of cold chicken. Then take a few different sauces for dipping like honey, bbq, sweet and sour, etc... That way everyone can have whatever flavor they want. Also, nut thins (or another gluten-free cracker), cheese slices, and gluten-free lunch meat make nice bite size sandwiches. Chilled corn quessadillas and salsa is nice...
  6. Thank you so much everyone for the support. I talked to my dad today and by the end of the conversation HE was coming up with possible Celiac symptoms that he's experienced. He's pretty unmotivated about doing anything normally, but he said he would get tested. I'll believe it when I see it. What tests should he ask for? I don't think our doctor ever did...
  7. When we vacationed in Florida I lived on McDonalds apple dippers and fruit and yogurt parfait (w/o granola), Wendy's chili, and Carrabba's and Outback. I hope that helps. I'm not familiar with State College at all.

    ARCHIVED Lara Bars

Could it be the dates in them? Dates give some people D and major D cramping even when eaten in moderation. Are you sure it was the Lara Bar? I personally haven't had any trouble with Lara Bars. I love them! I hope you're feeling much better by now.
  9. Thanks everyone for your support. I think I may try to talk to my dad this week. Cross your fingers for me, this isn't going to be easy. He's not exactly my best friend if you know what I mean. Thanks again.
  10. I was diagnosed with Celiac two years ago, shortly after my daughter was born. Does this mean that one of my parents is a carrier or maybe has it? I'm not clear on the genetic trail of this disease (if there is one). My mom was tested once and it came back negative. She suffers from IBS, but her symptoms are relatively mild and I believe that she could possibly...
  11. Absolutely not! Some Celiacs are completely symptom free their whole life. Other Celiacs only get diagnosed because they developed colon cancer and it was discovered through all of the testing. It is 100% possible to have Celiac and not have any poop issues.
  12. There are several Dorito flavors that are gluten free. Black pepper jack is my personal favorite. Just be careful because Frito Lay has been known for cross contamination.

    ARCHIVED Help Me!

When I started out I had no clue what I was doing, so I screwed up A LOT!!! However, I'm not one of the celiacs that quickly present with symptoms, so I noticed massive positive changes as soon as I eliminated most of the gluten from my diet. I am now completely gluten free and doing well with the diet. I actually find that I eat much better now that I'm...

    ARCHIVED Help Me!

Celiac symptoms vary so greatly from person to person. The symptoms that you described could be in reaction to gluten. Lots of people get severe heartburn (some even diagnosed with GERD and required surgery). Nausea is also a common symptom. Are you sure that you have removed all sources of gluten from your diet including products labeled malt, natural or...
  15. This isn't the book that came with it. Although, that book does have some awesome recipes that are naturally gluten free. This book is called 101 Recipes and you can order it anywhere you can order the Magic Bullet. It even has seperate sections specifically for dressings and marinades. How cool is that? I can't wait to try all of the stuff.
  16. We can do it! We just need to get a group of people who have good organizational skills (and some free time). We need to pin down exactly what we want to do (ie: booths for gluten-free manufacturers, entertainment, contests, convention hall location, etc). I'm good at coming up with ideas and I'm good at coming up with an action plan to carry out those ideas...
  17. I just got my copy of the Magic Bullet 101 recipes. I was shocked that most of the recipes were naturally gluten free. There are tons of yummy soups, meat marinades, salad dressings, appetizers, and even main dishes and desserts that are naturally gluten free. I know the cookbook wasn't designed to be gluten free, but almost ever recipe was gluten free (or...
  18. Would it be possible for one of the moderators to move this topic into the "coping with" forum to get more attention? I think you guys have an awesome idea here and that seems to be the most popular forum on here.
  19. Think Kid Rock would perform in memory of his little friend (sorry, can't remember his name right now). I'm not a Kid Rock fan, but is sure would be cool to have someone of that stature perform. Paula *hugs* we can cry together. I think if I saw a convention hall of all that, I'd just be down on my knees sobbing with relief.
  20. Definitely the major fatigue. When I get glutened I have to take a nap every day for usually about a week. I can't get out of bed in the morning. My two year old runs circles around me. The fatigue is definitely the worst for me.
  21. there are only a few ingredients in each bar. I don't believe there are any dairy ingredients except *maybe* in the chocolate ones. All of the other bars have their ingredients clearly listed and they are all natural, no preservatives, no artificial coloring or flavoring. The only thing that is in most of them is fruit and nuts. I don't know why they're so...
  22. I just got an e-mail response from them a few days ago. Here's what they had to say: Dear Angie: Thank you for your inquiry regarding menu items for Gluten Intolerant guests. We can recommend the following items with some adjustments. Let your server know you are interested in menu items especially for Gluten Intolerance. Your server will be happy...
  23. Do you think the mainstream product producers would have any interest in this? Maybe if we marketed it correctly to them? I know that Grandma Utz potato chips label as gluten free. So do Lays Stax, Thai Kitchen, and so many others. Maybe they would be interested in setting up booths with samples and coupons??? Just a thought. I think if we can somehow get...
  24. Yeah, Lara Bars are incredible!!! They're not dry like most of the other natural food bars. The apple pie and the pecan pie are my favorites. I buy them by the case!!!
  25. I don't know what I'd do if I were in a convention hall full of *safe* food and *safe* beer... I think I'd just burst into tears knowing that I could have anything I wanted in that room. Please tell me I wouldn't be the only dry eye... Does anyone have really good organizational tools to set something like this up? Think the gluten-free beer festival would...
