  1. Rusla, I am so sorry. I was the one that posted the letter. Is the phone number the same for US and Canada? Do they produce the same products in US and Canada? Were any of the ingredients suspect or was the gluten hidden?
  2. Okay guys, I was in my grocery store the other day holding a box of the NEW Trix (no wheat starch listed on the ingredient panel). I called just to make sure they were gluten free and the idiot on the phone told me that they were NOT gluten free because it had this listed "corn (whole grain, flour, meal)" as an ingredient. I asked her doesn't that just mean...
  3. I used to work at Perkins and I personally wouldn't trust ANYTHING from there. They bake their own muffins, pies, cakes, etc. right there on location so cross contamination is VERY likely!!!
  4. My daughter hasn't shown any celiac symptoms yet, but I can relate this to my own life experiences... I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder years prior to my celiac diagnosis. I suffered through major depression, severe mood swings, anorexia, and a variety of other scary things and was on and off of many anti-depressants, mood stabalizers...
  5. Don't buy Depends... Ummm... A "friend" tried that and they don't work so well...
  6. I believe there's one flavor of Jelly Belly's that is NOT gluten free. I think it may be the popcorn flavor, but I'm not sure. I just remember reading that a while ago.
  7. Ambien has worked great for me! However, if you need to get up several times in the middle of the night to pee, you may be in big trouble. I don't know that I could've made it to the bathroom a few hours after taking the Ambien. I've also tried tizanadine (I don't know what the brand name is) and that had slightly less of an effect, meaning I could have...
  8. It is VERY possible that the tissue that they sampled didn't have villous atrophy. It's also VERY possible that other areas may have shown villous atrophy if sampled. Don't take the biopsy results as the be all and end all, it's still possible that you have Celiac. If your bloodwork comes back positive, I would just assume that it's correct (unless you're...
  9. Wow!!! I just got back from our local Giant (Lititz, PA) and they just rearranged their entire store and they now have a HUGE organic section with a gluten free section. I found tons of things there that were gluten free AND even some new stuff that I had never tried before. The prices were quite reasonable too which surprised me. I just thought I'd share...
  10. For fruits - Stretch Island Fruit Leather and LaraBars For veggies - dried vegatables should keep for a little while, you could dry your own For Protein - LaraBars Grains - Dry gluten free cereals, rice She may also want to add a vitamin supplement if she's not already taking one. This would help to offset any nutrional imbalance while on your outdoor...
  11. Music is extremely theraputic. I've tried to do the same things to help retrain my memory (to work). My best advice to you is to pick a piece of music that you're already familiar with, like a popular song. I found that this made it much less frustrating for me. Good luck!
  12. Oh my GOSH!!! When's the one in Baltimore?!?!?! Where in Baltimore?!?!?!? Is there a website?!?!?! Please please please, more info!!!
  13. Carrabba's is my absolute favorite. Just make sure if you get a grilled item that you mention emphatically that they need to clean the section of the grill where they'll be cooking your food. Their grill baste is not gluten free. Enjoy!
  14. Let me just add on to your great Outback experience. We just went there for dinner tonight. I ordered the filet with garlic mashed potatos. The waitress was very nice and definitely understood how important gluten free was. Now here's the impressive part. I ordered mashed potatos, but my meal came out with veggies. I didn't order veggies so I never said no...
  15. Rusla, any suggestions on Leavn Cuisines to try??? I'm ready for some mainstream junk!!!
  16. I just contacted Stouffers about their products. Here's the letter I recieved in response. The date is correct. March 30, 2006 Dear Ms. Guhl, Thank you for taking the time to contact us about STOUFFER'S®. We welcome questions and comments from loyal consumers such as yourself and appreciate this opportunity to assist you. We have read your ...
  17. The sugar nuts are fabulous. Way better than most candies, and definitely more nutritious. Just be careful to pack them in small bags because it's REALLY easy to eat a whole bag at a time. I made that mistake more than once. You can sub melted butter for the egg and water in ChelsE's recipe. I don't know exact amounts though, I always just kind of wing it...
  18. Don, be very careful with gluten because even if you don't get sick, you could be doing damage to your body, possibly irrepairable damage. The following beverages are gluten free to the very best of my knowledge: Woodchuck Hard Cider Jack Daniels Black Label Makers Mark Whiskey Seagram's 7 Crown Whiskey Skyy Vodka (Regular, Orange, Melon, Spiced, Vanilla...
  19. You are not a hypochondriac. You are not weak. You are not weird. You are not a nuisance. You are not being difficult. You are not a freak. You are not alone. Stay strong. It will all be over soon. And the best part is, guess what??? WE get it!!! WE understand!!! WE are here for you!!!
  20. I did a gluten challenge last summer and got violently ill. It took me almost two months until I was starting to feel somewhat normal again. Of course, they had me do the gluten challenge for over a month, so that may have played a part in it. I don't think you need to be eating gluten for quite that long. If you're still having problems and they can't figure...
  21. Their chicken bryan is fabulous! So is the Mama whatever chicken soup. Maybe she could bring some of those things home for you instead of bread. They are both gluten free and yummy!
  22. A couple of the Kraft South Beach Diet frozen dinners are also gluten free.
  23. Here are some... Open Original Shared Link
  24. Snacks that you would have to prepare: - Sugar Nuts (peanuts, almonds, pecans, cashews coated with butter/sugar/cinnamon, then baked) - Chex Mix (gluten free generic chex, peanuts, gluten free pretzels, butter, worcestershire sauce, garlic, then baked) - cold cheese quesadillas with fresh salsa make a great quick snack that can be made ahead of time...
  25. Maybe buy her a gluten free recipe book as an "I care" gift. Surprise her with it on a fun outing that includes a spectacular gluten free meal. Gluten free can be completely tasty and I think that's probably what she needs to see in order to help her make the decision to stick to the diet. I know, for me personally, the dietary changes were very hard at first...
