  1. the house show has a message board.... i put a post up about celiac... maybe you all could join me in building awareness? www.fox.com/house
  2. The diagnosis is the worst (IMO). Thankfully, you have other people around you to go through it with you (your sister). That makes it much easier, assuming the two of you get along. My best advice to you, go out and buy yourself a good gluten free cookbook (I recommend Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids -- not just for kids, I swear) and indulge...
  3. Exactly, very well put.
  4. Armetta, God bless you for being so thoughtful of your family as to have yourself committed. That must have been a very hard time for you. Thank you for sharing that.
  5. That absolutely, without a doubt could be a symptom of celiac disease!!! And please, NEVER feel ashamed of anything you reveal on this board. We've all (most) been through a myriad of "embarassing" symptoms that we would never admit to the "normal" world. Diarrhea, excessive stinky gas, psychosis, depression, anxiety, hearing things, constipation, bloody...
  6. Karen, thank you SSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much for posting that thread!!! I used to always hear the radio on. Sometimes I would even search the house for the noise, and of course, there was never anything on. Yea!!!! I'm not crazy!!! Well, maybe a little... But who's to say a 'lil crazy isn't good? Seriously, thanks for reposting...
  7. Is this the very first mainstream coverage (Discovery channels not included) that Celiac disease has gotten?
  8. Has anyone looked down to see how many people are reading this thread right now?
  9. Malabsorption can cause extreme psychosis (as well as depression and anxiety). I'm certainly not alluding that anyone on this board has had that problem, I just know that in extreme cases it can be very in depth. Vitamin B6 and B12 deficiencies (please correct me someone if I'm wrong on these) can cause mental disorder. Deficiencies in other vitamins as well...
  10. Nini, here here to that! I'm with you all the way there!
  11. I'm just glad that a mainstream show did an ENTIRE SHOW about the disease. If it causes just ONE doctor to go look up celiac disease, then it was worth it. It was a pretty exagerated case of celiac, but hey, isn't that what drama shows like House are all about? I'm just glad that maybe a couple more people may decide to become more educated about the disease...
  12. It's that main lady! Isn't it? Her stomach hurts...
  13. What about the father who got "dizzy" and threw up in the stairs?

    ARCHIVED Beer

For those of you looking for a gluten free beer, check this site out Open Original Shared Link.
  15. It will be interesting to see what the "research" section of the website will reveal after tonight's episode.

    ARCHIVED Beer

Woodchuck cider is gluten free. It's not beer, but it satisfies the beer urge for me.
  17. For those that aren't dairy intolerant, try adding cheddar cheese to the garlic biscuits. Mmmmmm... It tastes like the cheddar bay biscuits from Red Lobster. They are fantastic like this! They reheat exceptionally well too.
  18. What about if you just use it on your toenails... Some advice please? I only paint my toenails (since I'm notoriously bad at chewing on my fingernails) and I'd really like to continue doing this, but I really don't want to have one more thing to read the ingredients on. What would you guys do? It seems to me that the chances of toenail polish getting in my...
  19. Those sound like definite signs of being glutened. I personally have removed all gluten-containing flours from my house to reduce my risk for cross-contamination. Gluten can most definitely cause damage from being inhaled. Actually, IMO it seems riskier if you're using the wheat flour because not only could you be glutened when you're actually baking, but...
  20. I fought with my own anorexia for three years. God bless you for being so strong for her. She will need it. I'll be praying that she's able to make a complete recovery soon.
  21. Symptoms of Celiac can be so varied that two (or more) celiacs may never share even one single symptom. However, it does seem as though some symptoms are more popular than others. I would imagine that symptoms could be the exact same for an adult and a child. My best description of brain fog is something between the feeling you get right before you start...

    ARCHIVED New

Welcome!!! There are lots of kind people and wonderful advice here. You've come to the right place.
  23. No problem, Momofthree! I hope your family enjoys the recipes as much as mine does. I've been ordering my flours at Open Original Shared Link. They seem to have the best prices and flat rate $10 shipping. If you make the garlic biscuits, try adding shredded cheddar cheese to them (if you guys can have dairy). It makes them taste almost exactly like Red Lobster...
  24. You are likely always hungry because your body is craving the nutrients that you can't absorb. This seems to be relatively common in Celiacs. Malabsorption is a direct byproduct of Celiac. Celiac causes the villi in your intestines to flatten, this causes an inability to absorb essential nutrients as well as other health problems. JMO, your eating will...
  25. Most Wal-mart's carry Oneida brand nonstick bakeware. It's pricey, but it's really nice. It has a grey finish. I swear by Oneida for all my baking. Plus (I know, I know, you're not supposed to put nonstick stuff in the dishwasher) mine has held up PERFECTLY to multi-daily dishwasher cycles. Before I was gluten free I had a shiny silver baking sheet and...
