I thought that semen didn't contain gluten... I know there was a long thread on this a while ago, but I think it may have gotten deleted. I can't find it. I thought the general concensus was that it was gluten free. Please correct me if I'm wrong because it makes me really sick.

ARCHIVED Glutenzyme
Guhlia replied to tammy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah, Glutenzyme is definitely not safe for Celiacs to use. It specifically says that on their website. Carla, I love your new picture. It looks like you're on a tropical vacation or something. -
Keep in mind that you're stomach and your gag reflex may be slightly out of whack right now... If it makes you sick right now, that doesn't necessarily mean that it will make you sick two months down the road. I know I have a really hard time with *clears throat* ya know.

ARCHIVED Wow I Made A Silly Mistake
Guhlia replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I believe that at least the original flavor of EZ cheese is gluten free. I remember reading that on either the Delphi list or another forum. I think most of them are. I definitely trust Kraft with their labelling. They haven't glutened me yet. -
ARCHIVED Amaretto
Guhlia replied to Anya78's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, Disaronno is gluten free. It's in the Clan Thompson Pocket Guide to Beer, Wine, and Spirits. -
ARCHIVED Emotional Impact Of celiac disease
Guhlia replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac Disease causes malabsorption. When you aren't absorbing the proper nutrients, your body is lacking in all sorts of areas. B vitamin deficiencies are common among celiacs and B vitamin deficiency can cause depression, mood disorders, etc. So, I would say that Celiac absolutely can cause depression. -
ARCHIVED Snacks Please!
Guhlia replied to Rae's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can get it at my local grocery store, but it's expensive. I sometimes order it online at shopbydiet.com. It's reasonably priced and you get free shipping if you order over $100. -
ARCHIVED Constipation
Guhlia replied to jsdawson's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Jennifer, is it a behavioral problem that he won't go, or is he really constipated? I know that some children, especially those who have been painfully constipated in the past, develop behavioral movement holding. Another possibilty is that he is having a hard time processing casein (milk). That can lead to constipation. I hope you get things figured out... -
ARCHIVED Cereal Recommendations?
Guhlia replied to katrinamaria's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Neopets Islandberry crunch is supposedly gluten free. I like a lot of the specialty cereals like Perky-O's and Nutty Rice cereal. You can find a ton of options online at shopbydiet.com. Their prices are reasonable too. -
ARCHIVED So When You Are Eating Gluten
Guhlia replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had D all the time in the end, but I also think I've been suffering from celiac disease my whole life, so I imagine that I had a fair amount of damage. When I did my gluten challenge last year I didn't get sick right away, then I started getting sick when eating gluten, then the longer it went on, the more sick I got all the time. -
ARCHIVED Preemie Infant Allergic To Rice?
Guhlia replied to averyannsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
IF you have celiac, you will want to discuss with your doctor the likelihood that celiac disease was the actual cause of your maternity problems. I had a rough pregnancy and I'm pretty certain that it was due to celiac disease. I didn't have all the health problems though that you had. I believe preeclempsia is related to undiagnosed celiac disease. Don't... -
I've been drinking it because I'm on a diet and there are very few things that I can choke down as far as drinks go. I've always been a soda drinker, but I need to cut some calories and those are the easiest to cut out. I can't do plain water, it makes me gag. I know, it sounds dumb, but I just can't make myself drink plain water. Any other ideas for low...

ARCHIVED Can Anyone Recommend Some Cookbooks?
Guhlia replied to Mia H's topic in Publications & Publicity
I love the Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids cookbook. It has fabulous biscuit, pancake, cookie, and cake recipes that taste like the real thing. -
You guys might want to try Living Gluten Free for Dummies. It's a pretty good book for newbies.

Thanks everyone. I thought I was nuts for getting stomach cramps from drinking water, but I guess there are others with the same problem. Regular water doesn't give me a problem, but fortified water is hard on my system. I do have to say though, the more I drink it, the lesser the cramps get. Do you guys think I'm hurting my body by drinking it or was I just...

In Hersheypark there's a Kosher Food Mart that has a small gluten free menu. It's not much, but it's better than nothing. You may want to call the park ahead of time to see if they'll let you bring your own food in since you hae dietary restrictions. I know that Dutch Wonderland will (they're owned by Hershey), so it's worth a try.

ARCHIVED Good Bread?
Guhlia replied to HillaryT's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Try using aluminum foil with your bread mix in the oven. That should enable you to make hamburger or hotdog buns in any shape or length without buying a special pan. -
Yeah, I apologize too for posting in the teens section. I just wanted to warn you to be careful with ice cream! Though there are some ice creams that are gluten free, they may REALLY hurt your teeth since you have new braces. I couldn't handle anything cold for the first month that I had braces because the metal held the cold temperature for too long. It...

ARCHIVED Snacks Please!
Guhlia replied to Rae's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Glutano's crisp bread is excellent spread with jam... It's actually excellent spread with almost anything. It makes for a great little snack, kind of like a couple of finger sandwiches. They're excellent with cheese spreads as well as well-drained tuna salad. Also, don't forget about easy stuff like cheese cubes, gluten free pretzels, Craisins, gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Getting A Little Scared Now...
Guhlia replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jerry, why don't you get tested before the cruise? It seems to me that you likely won't have a good time on vacation if you're sick all the time. Better to know early than continue causing serious damage to your body. -
ARCHIVED Need A Recipe For Hushpuppies
Guhlia replied to Sis's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use the garlic biscuit recipe from the Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food For Kids cookbook and I just roll them into balls and fry them. They turn out really well. I've only done this once because I recently went on a diet, but they were fabulous. They may be slightly dense though for your tastes if you're a real hush puppie lover. -
ARCHIVED Preemie Infant Allergic To Rice?
Guhlia replied to averyannsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Kara, I would say that you definitely need to get tested for Celiac. I too was diagnosed w/ Fibro and always had a very long list of odd ailments. Everyone just thought I was a hypochondriac. Now, after two years gluten free, I am finally feeling "normal". I don't need vicodin several times a week for neck pain, I went off the muscle relaxers AND the cymbalta... -
ARCHIVED Dear Pizza Hut.....i Hate You........
Guhlia replied to angel-jd1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used to work at 5-10 different Pizza Huts as a travelling shift manager. Guys, you're not missing out on anything. There are so many gross things that go on in places like those that I consider myself lucky that I can't eat it anymore. At our one store we used to get food poisoning complaints practically on a weekly basis. This wasn't a nasty, dirty, big... -
ARCHIVED Preemie Infant Allergic To Rice?
Guhlia replied to averyannsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your daughter (minus the premature birth) sounds almost exactly like my daughter at that age. My daughter was always very gassy, spit up constantly, could not handle formula, and had bloody diarrhea all the time. Though she never really seemed like she was in pain, she was ALWAYS hungry, even after she just ate. We ended up putting her on Neocate, a prescription...
