ARCHIVED White Rice Flour
Guhlia replied to Friendly Face's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Kinnikinnick's white rice flour is very fine and my foods never turn out gritty at all. I'm not sure if they sell in bulk though. Worth looking into perhaps? www.kinnikinnick.com -

ARCHIVED Do Your Kids Cry For Food They Can't Have?
Guhlia replied to SAHM2one's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter also never ate enough gluten to be tested. We tried testing through Enterolab, but it came back negative. We decided to try going gluten free and she does MUCH better like that. Like others said, I always carry gluten free snacks/goodies with me just in case. I keep cupcakes or donuts in my freezer for parties that she's invited to. I also call... -

Ok... Does anyone else think Susan Lucci looks like a Celiac? -
ARCHIVED Traveling On Tour Bus?
Guhlia replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We have an RV and we travel for a week or so at a time sometimes for work. The tour bus will also have a stove so you'll be able to pan fry fresh meats and what not. Luckily there are thousands of naturally gluten free foods. I'm sure you have your own lists of those. Stock up on specialty items that you'll need like flour for coating meat, crackers, Tinkyada... -
ARCHIVED How Important Is A Diagnosis?
Guhlia replied to elaffint's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you've been gluten free for weeks chances are that all tests would come back negative. I think the big question is: will YOU be able to maintain a gluten free diet for life without a definitive diagnosis? If not, then I think you need to consider more testing, perhaps Enterolab since you don't have to be eating gluten to test through them. If yes, then... -
ARCHIVED Received Celiac Home Test Kit Today
Guhlia replied to dizzygrinch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Dizzy, the diet won't hurt you and it will most likely give you some answers, either way. I hope you've found your answer because Celiac is so easy to control once you master the diet. Also, remember that the diet takes 100% compliance and it may take months for you to feel a difference (though some do feel better after hours, days, or weeks). For me it was... -
ARCHIVED Need Tried And True Gluten Free Apple Recipes
Guhlia replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Baking is a passion of mine. Darn diet kind of ruined that though. lol. I've lost almost 15 lbs though, so... I guess it's worth it. All that baking got me into BIG trouble. When I was diagnosed I was suddenly able to taste food and enjoy it, so I went NUTS!!! I spent a lot of time converting recipes I found on allrecipes. I never baked much before Celiac... -
ARCHIVED Need Tried And True Gluten Free Apple Recipes
Guhlia replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
For a flour sub I use 3 parts white rice, 2 parts potato starch, and 1 part tapioca starch. Then I add 1 teaspoon xantham gum per cup of flour. I only use Kinnikinnick brand flours because I find they are ground very finely and I get the best results using them. Quite honestly I have had maybe two recipes total fail using this flour mix (out of hundreds probably... -
You're in luck! Back off on the BBQ a little bit if you want it to taste exactly like KFC. I, however, think it's better with the BBQ and WAY better than KFC. Open Original Shared Link For extra crunchy dip back and forth 3-4 times.

ARCHIVED Any Help For Infractions?
Guhlia replied to SilverSlipper's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know about for a 7 year old, but Red Bull is a life saver for me when I'm glutened. I also have an anti-spasmodic prescription for really bad glutenings. It takes away most of the stomach cramping. Other than that, lots of sleep and lots of love are about all that takes the edge off for me. I hope she's feeling better soon! -
Thanks guys. I really needed to know that I wasn't overreacting. My husband always tells me that I overreact to EVERYTHING, so I'm a little self conscious about it. Though, I would sooner think that's he's just overly laid back rather than me overreacting. He doesn't react to much of anything. Ever. Anyway, I will just let it go, let him miss the party...

ARCHIVED She Ate Fruit Loops Today
Guhlia replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I use this recipe which was posted a long time ago somewhere... I wish I could remember who to give credit for it. It's amazing pizza!!! NY Style Pizza Makes one 16" crust or two smaller crusts - foldable floppy and not crispy. Ingredients: 2 tablespoons rapid rise yeast 1 1/3 cup warm milk 1 teaspoon sugar 1 1/3 cup brown rice flour 1 cup tapioca... -

have you tried tinkyada pasta? -
I'm not sure... There was a whole thread a while back devoted to these things... I have no idea what to even search for though!

Ha ha ha... SEE! l.o.l Same with L.o.L... that comes up as a smiley. And compact disc's initials (C.D.) turns into celiac disease. There are a bunch of auto-correct things on here. Funny, huh? Type in A.rbonne without the period... I believe it turns into "lame advertisement". Too funny. lol celiac disease Lame Advertisement oh wow, lol doesn't...

ARCHIVED Body Lotion
Guhlia replied to digmom1014's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I too LOVE Burt's Bees, but you're right about the price. For every day dry skin I use Dove or Suave. All unilever products will disclose any WBRO gluten source. I've also used just plain old cooking spray olive oil and it works well on severely dry or chapped hands and at a fraction of the cost of most lotions/creams. -
Anytime you type in the letters G & F next to each other it automatically changes it to gluten free. l.o.l

ARCHIVED She Ate Fruit Loops Today
Guhlia replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would have to agree with dandelionmom. 6 is probably too young to grasp "gluten free". My 4 year old understands she can't have the basics (baked goods, breaded foods, etc), but she would more than likely accept something like licorice or a candy bar without thinking twice. Gluten free is hard enough for adults to grasp, let alone children. Perhaps there... -
ARCHIVED Hand Sanitizers
Guhlia replied to gf49erfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know this probably isn't the response you want to hear, but do they have a phone number that you can call? I think Purell is gluten free, but I don't know about other hand sanitizers. If it's a moisturizing kind then there's a good chance it could have gluten in it as many lotions contain gluten. -
ARCHIVED She Ate Fruit Loops Today
Guhlia replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
How old is your daughter? Does she understand the importance of staying strictly gluten free? Absolutely, NO, the school most likely will have NO idea what gluten is. Hopefully you'll get lucky, but more often than not it takes meeting after meeting for the staff to understand Celiac well enough to help keep your daughter safe. And, of course, depending on... -
At this point I would rather she just weren't around my kids. My brother isn't exactly a positive role model, so it's not worth the hassle. It just makes me sad that he is so obviously choosing her over his nieces. And I really hope that they don't grow up resentful of them because no matter how much of a jerk he is, he's still their uncle. Thank God my husband...

Yup, that's the short version of the story. We actually own a racecar that my brother drives for us, for our business (racecar parts). She told me that my husband working on the car is more important than my (our) children's needs. Ummm.... Riiiiighttt... He was supposed to be getting the baby a bottle and never came back. Turned out he was working on the...

ARCHIVED Lunch And Snack Ideas?
Guhlia replied to khieken's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm also a firm believer in Thermos lunches for my preschooler. I use the Thermos FUNtainers. My DD LOVES getting macaroni and cheese or nitrate free hotdogs as special lunches. She also enjoys cold pizza. A few other things I pack for her: nitrate/nitrite free lunch meat wrapped around cream cheese - pinwheels lunchable style meals with same lunch meat... -

Wow, that looks amazing and very easy to make! How do you think it would turn out with a simple crumb topping like this: Open Original Shared Link as opposed to the oat topping? Do you think it would still be good? My mouth is watering!
