ARCHIVED Bread And Corn Tortillas Worth Buying
Guhlia replied to mominbaltimore's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
All of the Kinnikinnick breads that I've tried have been wonderful. Our favorite is the cheese bread. It doesn't have a strong cheese flavor at all and makes the BEST peanut butter sandwich of any of the breads I've tried thus far. I lightly toast it to thaw it. It stays soft and spongy like typical white bread. Mission corn tortillas are really good.... -

YEA, snow!!! Patti, you're less than an hour from where I used to race!!! There's a track in Bridgeport, NJ, Bridgeport Speedway. I used to race micros there a few years ago. It's a great little track. Don and I both raced there. That's the only track I ever won at, I even set a record there. I was the first female to ever win a feature on the 1/4 mile... -

I'm so glad everyone's safe. You know, the New Yorkers and northerners are probably laughing like crazy reading this thread. You would think we got feet of snow! It is pretty bad here though. My husband made it up the driveway with the snowblower, but he said it barely cut through with the ice crust being as thick as it is. Our mailbox is gone thanks to... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pantry Triple Brownie Mix
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Go into Giant and go to their customer service desk. Ask if you can speak to a manager in charge of stock or ordering. They "might" be willing to order it in for you, especially if you commit to buying more than just one. Grocery stores will order pretty much anything if they think it'll make them money. You will likely want to follow up with a phone call... -
ARCHIVED Real Fried Chicken Recipe!
Guhlia replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I wanted to add that this is even great a few days later. Just stick it under the broiler for a few minutes on the second shelf down and it gets nice and crispy. Yum!!! And I thought I'd never have fried chicken again... You know, Nancy, I'm really not sure what the point of the buttermilk is. I can't imagine that it adds much flavor with the richness... -

Judy, when it's wet in the air, but freezes upon hitting or before it hits the ground it is called freezing rain. Sleet is kind of hard I thought, similar to hail, but wetter feeling. I dunno... It was definitely switching between sleet and freezing rain here. Yuck! The snow has a nice shiny crust to it now. Amanda, surgery? Perhaps roads will be better... -

It looks creepy outside with the snow glistening a little too much. Kind of like a horror movie. It's still raining a little bit here. We only live a few minutes from Manheim. I can't imagine how she's going to make it to work tomorrow. We have a really thick coating of ice already and it still has all night to accumulate. If you and John go to work... -

We're getting sleet now. Such a shame to ruin all that beautiful snow. I'm glad I got Tori outside today. If there's any snow left tomorrow I'll make her a snow cone with juice. That sounds good. I'm glad you're starting to feel a little better. No one should have to be sick for beautiful snow days. -

Amanda, sweetie, you better hurry up and feel better tomorrow... It's beautiful outside!!! We have about 3", maybe 4", here and Tori finally got to play in the snow. I took her sledding today. Of course, we had a big fiasco trying to find her boots and winter gloves. We ended up putting a pair of dress boots on her and a pair of knit gloves and only stayed... -
ARCHIVED Hardbite Potato Chips gluten-free?
Guhlia replied to gabby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gibbles chips are made in a gluten free factory. I eat them all the time and have never had a problem. -
ARCHIVED Not Really Sure...
Guhlia replied to Christy-Latchford's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Meals are actually pretty easy with Celiac. Just stick to meats, veggies, and potatoes to start out. McCormick spices will list gluten if it contains any, so season away. Plain butter is almost always, if not always, gluten free (Land O' Lakes is safe). Just remember to ALWAYS read labels. Even if you've bought something 100 times before and it was always... -

Nancy, I'm so glad that you guys enjoyed it as much as we did!!! I think I'm going to have to make some again tomorrow. I've lost 1/2 a pound this month, so I think it's time to start bulking up. I can't possibly eat any more or any healthier than I'm already eating! This baby must be really hungry! Maybe some good old fashioned fat will do him good. -
ARCHIVED The Common Cold Prior To Diagnosis
Guhlia replied to amarieski's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
After about a year gluten free my colds started lessening in severity. I used to be flat out on my back with a cold, now I function pretty well with it. Now everyone else seems to get hit worse than I do. It is SO nice not to always be the sick one. I've also noticed that I get colds a lot less than I used to. -

I heard 6" total here... I'll believe that when I see it! -
I've tried contacting them multiple times about gluten free options and I NEVER get a reply. I can't imagine how anything would be safe there though. Most everything appears to have gluten in or on it.

ARCHIVED Royal Carribean Cruises?
Guhlia replied to kristenroman's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Cruises are generally good about gluten free food. You will definitely want to contact them soon though and then confirm that they will be able to do gluten free for you about 2 weeks from the date of the cruise. This will prevent any accidents. Also, like usual, you will want to ensure each meal is gluten free until you feel comfortable with the chefs and... -

We're both from the Lancaster/Harrisburg area. I would love to get some snow. Tori has a brand new snowsuit for this year and she's dying to try it out. Right now things are just muddy around here. Yuck! -

ARCHIVED Quinoa....yuck
Guhlia replied to singingserena's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome to the forum! I can't stand quinoa. I think it's disgusting. However, I do really enjoy quinoa flake cookies. They taste very similar to oatmeal cookies. Yum! -
ARCHIVED Places To Eat In Lancaster, Pennsylvania
Guhlia replied to Camaro1979's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Outback Steakhouse and Carraba's Italian Grill on 272 at route 30 in Lancaster. Willow Valley Restaurant in Willow Street (take 272 south from Lancaster City, the restaurant will be on your right heading south). Call them ahead of time to gaurantee they can do gluten free and to determine which restaurant can do gluten free, there are three seperate restaurants... -
ARCHIVED Cottage Cheese?
Guhlia replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Breakstone's cottage cheese is gluten free even though it lists modified food starch as an ingredient. It's made by Kraft. Kraft will never hide gluten on a label. I'm eating some right now. -
ARCHIVED Grocery Shopping
Guhlia replied to smilie-girl99's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do you (or someone you know) have celiac or have eating restrictions on food? Yes, Me, but my family is gluten free as well in support Do you (or they) find it hard to go grocery shopping? No, Wal-mart is a God send If there was a store that catered to people who had restrictions on what they could eat would you shop there? Probably once, when it... -
ARCHIVED Found New gluten-free Cereal Today!
Guhlia replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Has anyone had the new Kaboom formulation, since they eliminated the oats? Is it good? I'd like to order some from Amazon, but I don't want to go through all that if they taste like cardboard. -
ARCHIVED I Can Eat Fruity Pebbles?
Guhlia replied to amarieski's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here's the most recent post discussing fruity pebbles. Open Original Shared Link I think the general consensus is that they're gluten free, but there's always an issue for cross contamination if the factory isn't dedicated gluten free. Many people eat them without problems though.
